I was there. I was standing right in front of Tommy Shannon's bass rig. I think they did 3 songs. My father was the director of this telethon. Stevie and him became friends when Stevie taped the TV show he did with Albert King. They played and recorded for about 6 hours but it was edited down for the tv show. My dad knew Stevie was in town the night of the telethon. I believe he played Thompson Hall. My dad called him up and asked if he would play the telethon after the gig. Stevie said yes and did it for free. Long live Stevie!

😂😂 Hold Up... this ain't loud enough, let me fix it.. He had every amp in the state of Texas turned up to you ain't gonna hear nothing for the next 3 days.. level 😂
Stevie did Hendrix's, better than Hendrix did Hendrix. I think he showed respect to every single song in his performance's. SRV was a master guitarist and singer!
Was lucky enough to see him live a couple of times when he played in Seattle. First time in 1984, I was 17, and to say he made an impression is an understatement. The second time was about a month before he died… he played The Gorge Amphitheater (Touring with Joe Cocker), and he dedicated this song to the sunset behind the stage and played it BEHIND HIS BACK. Badassery at its finest.
A genuine legend at his best..and that's no other then Stevie Ray Vaughan...blue 's and rock n roll..bring it on..Great performance on stage and the band is terrific ..Jimi Hendrix would be PROUD! R u with me?
Stevie & Jimi Were ALWAYS In Contact When Stevie Was Playing! NOBODY Loved Jimi More Than Stevie Ray! Some People Said That Stevie "Channeled" Jimi - But He Was Already 15 When Jimi Died...I'm Sure They Jam All Time Now, Though...!🎸
God DAMN that's fierce!! Will there ever be anyone this cool again? Stevie pulling out all the stops, knowing the spotlight is on him. Like a great, clutch hitter in the playoffs at the bottom of the 9th. It's such a gift that he had the sensitivity to have a true awareness of mortality because clearly he played like tonight might be his last.
Also, what a GREAT rhythm section!!! Johnny Winter’s old crew. They were the final pieces of the puzzle that cemented SRV’s sound, IMO. They just drive and drive and drive, laying down the canvas for his guitar work. BTW, that’s a DAMN GOOD vocal performance, too. He’s never sounded better. RIP, SRV.
Imagine, you walk into a Telethon thinking you're there to support the cause not knowing the entertainment lineup then this guy walks out and starts playing like this with his great band. You're saying What the! Some people were very lucky, I hope they realized it then and now how lucky they were !
Listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble..the legend Stevie Ray Vaughan is putting out sound that is amazing and sensational..never be another rock n roll and blue's guitar player as Stevie Ray Vaughan on a stage again..Gid only had one mold for Stevie Ray Vaughan and your looking at him..RIP Stevie..your the unforgettable guitar legend we all grew to love in our own time..you r missed..
What another absolute gem of a find!!! Thankyou for uploading 🙏 The GOAT ....one of my fav performance of Voodoo Chile by SRV I think...until someother video pops up lol 🥰😛 What a f.....kin LEGEND 🔥🔥🔥⚡⚡⚡
OMG!!! I am an SRV junkie and I think I had my fix for the next 90 days. That was for me the best I've seen my idol set that song on fire. Thank you sooooo much for posting this video. God Bless you, and PIP (Play in Peace) Stevie...
Imagine phoning in a pledge and hearing Stevie in the background.I wonder if the people taking calls could even hear who was on the phone!May as well go on break and watch Stevie!!Thanks for posting!
Has to be one of my favorite performances of VC. So insanely fluid and badass and crazy impressive considering it’s 1985 and Stevie was probably totally wasted.
So very AWESOME! Thanks so much for posting this! Much needed to see as of only a few days ago marked SRV's 22 yrs. since he passed. Again, thanks for making my heart less 'heavy'.
Anybody else ever wonder if the guy who owned Stevie's #1 before Stevie...if that guy ever realized what that guitar went and did with SRV as it's master?
Chris Cross had no idea what became of the guitar until someone told him. (If I'm not incorrect, it was after Stevie passed.) He was very humbled by the story & felt honored to have owned an iconic piece of history before Stevie made it famous.
You are welcome. Yes..22 years since we lost him. :( I am glad this video made you feel a bit better. :) I will always wonder what great music he would have made if that accident didn't happen.
It's not a telethon; it's a rock that axeathon. And the donation calls are going through the roof. it's not a telethon; it's a rock n' roll revival. And the kids are cured. Everyone can go home.
The people on the first 10 rows still can not hear Love it but Charlie Daniels ruin my hearing sitting 10 feet away from the speaker. I ain’t complaining I will do it again
