My brother got killed about few weeks before Stevie Ray Vaughn died. For some odd reason at just 19 I was already a huge fan, but I still have a hard time watching him play. I just remember standing there in with my mouth open for a long time. It truly is healing music. RIP to both my brothers.
SRV, Santana two of the greatest guitar master virtuosos in history together on stage. Earth cried, but heaven smiled when Sir Vaughn was called to the creators presence.
Great performance by these two heroes (really four great guitar players together here), very soulful and blissful! The variation of tone between the four of them in "Coal Train" is great to hear...I have the dvd of Carlos' band with Wayne Shorter and Patrice Rushen playing at Montreux five months later, more of a jazz-fusion project but with just as great interplay, a wonderful gig, and that one has "Deeper Dig Deeper" as the next-to-last track, with a simillar arrangement as here, Carlos introducing and spotlighting each musician of the band.
I was at this show. The Pacific Amphitheatre. The Thunderbirds, SRV & Santana. It was a distant memory but now its back. Thanks for posting.... On a side note: Santana played here again like a day after SRV was killed. He opened the show with "Spirits Dancing in the Flesh" then acknowledged the crowd and told us that the last time he played here was with SRV and that the evening was dedicated to him. He opened up the heavens that night!! I have seen Carlos a lot but that night he was on a another level, in touch with something special and he shared it with us....I will never forget that show.
+Jonathan Stewart Phew.. I saw that tour with Beck here in NY at MSG. Holy crap was that whole show intense. Actually I think that was sadly the last time I saw SRV. It was amazing seeing him go from small/mid size places to selling out MSG. He was so on fire that night. I'll never forget him saying.." So this is MSG. I like it" He was in total joy! To this day that encore with Beck.. The two of them wailing on the tune Going Down.. Is still the best guitar duel I've ever seen! I was at the Arms show at MSG when I was 17.. With Beck, Clapton and Page.. And while that will always stand out as one of my fave concerts.. With incredible gtr duels.. I'd still have to say SRV and Beck is the best duel I've ever seen.
I agree - believe it or not, I saw someone in a chat the other night saying Stevie was "a hack" and an imitator of other people's stuff, compared to some country guitar player, I've already forgotten the name, it wasn't one of the better known. Some people will do anything to show off their snobbery.
Stevie and Carlos are at the level of guitar playing where no one can play like them. So it’s hard to say who is better than who, they both are just unique @@okish02
I remember santana saying that riviera paradise by SRV is the most beautiful piece of music he has ever heard. I will have to agree. Anything stevie did was beautiful though.
Awesome to see Stevie Ray with Jimmie Vaughan, and Carlos Santana playing together. Beautiful vibes! Also shows that Cesar Rosas is a guitar god as well! Listen to Los Lobos to see more of his virtuousity....
Love how Carlos Santana appreciate every single one of the musician on stage a true persons at heart ever single person on the stage is amazingly talented r.i.p the great Stevie Ray Vaughan one of my favorite all time guitarist players of all time
Stevie's heart was loud, his eyes spoke, incredible soul,,,loved at first sight, then he began..........no words to describe him.It kills me that he's gone
@Ruben Sanchez How could he not respect them, and share his love when he's surrounded by such glorious musicians. I love 'em too: Greg Role Chester Thompson, Armando Perazza and Cesar Rojas would have been a terrific show without the 3 other guitar heroes out there.
Santana and SRV are my two favorite guitarist. They both play with so much soul and feel. Life is weird in the sense that some people get called early and some live long. I enjoy Santana being alive and see him every time he comes to my city. I could watch them endlessly. One of my life goals is to learn guitar and just jam
They are my 2 favorites also and I love a lot of guitar players. I saw SRV once and Carlos 20 times. The one time I actually got to meet Carlos himself it was the weekend SRV died and his first show afterwards. Both shows were in WI and I could have gone to Alpine Valley but the traffic is horrible, SRV was touring all the time and Carlos not as much so I chose Carlos. My friend went to and saw that last show. My spiritual hero Carlos, looked at me and said-"I don't even want to tour anymore. I just want to go home to my family". He never smiled once that whole night. Jimi and SRV realized they could Heal through their guitar and I say Satan took them out. Carlos almost went Home last year from his stupid Injections of Poison and Jeff Beck was murdered by them. I give EC great credit for speaking up-he's one of the only ones.
It's cool to see Stevie playing with Jimmy and Carlos and his band all at once on the stage ,it's an Iconic event really glad I ran into this video by accident .
I was there at the Pacific Amphitheater saw them play together Santana and Steive Ray Vaughan & brothers 2 sold out shows did see them 1st day they played excellent concert great to see Gregg Roile sing and play with Santana
This jam just pulls your heart out. If you can not feel it then I can not explain it to you...Just Beautiful...Stevie, what a Soul...Congratulations for finally being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Far to long, Stevie, far to long..Love Always
I was at that concert & waited the entire evening for SRV to play Voodoo Child & he did! It was the last song of the night! Ahhhh what awesome memories!
That luxury hear these three guitars for Stevie and Jimmie Vaughan two of the greatest representatives of the Texas Blues Rock side, the other side of the Lobos Cesar Rosas ... and to top the master Carlos Santana. And the incomparable Keyboards Chester Thompson. There is rarely the opportunity to see such giants of music together, thanks to the magic of video we can enjoy these events.
Carlos is the man you been around for a lot of years he's my favorite player so it's TV and I love the Blues Carlos has a way of bringing the music out God made him talented
Love 💘Santana & stive Ray Vaughan exciting concert i was there in October they played together& Pacific amphitheater,Costa mesa, can great 👍combination...loved it
Never got to see Stevie Ray live but have seen Carlos many times and aside of Jimmi Hendrix there my favorite guitarist of all time RIP Stevie you will always be missed !!!!!!
I was there great 👍with stive Ray Vaughan in Costa mesa 2 days sold out show ,also Santana with Jeff beck which was great 👍Santana is a international group his poular world wide, plus the female singer,s too bring in some new stuff love you guys.
I just looked at this and saw 98 thumbs down?!! Can you imagine ANYONE out there in the whole world being cranky enough to down these beautiful musicians!!! God Help Them.....
+kathberry8 Thanks I did not realize there were so few thumbs up either!I love these 2 in particular so much(Carlos and SRV).One guy wrote me and said he was mad because I posted this and he was the one who filmed it but YT shut him down.I have had YT remove a few really good Santana videos too and it is sad-I never monetize anything I just want people to have the access to the Beautiful music and this one was special-I was glad I made a copy of it.Now there are several out there.....
Wow, how great full I am to have been able to witness such greatness. These are artists that loved music and believe in what they play. We need to keep music alive in our schools so people like these guys can keep contributing so others will know. Stevie Ray and people like these brought back the art of the blues and jazz fusion. Let's not let it die. Give your kid an instrument. Very few, very few even make it to the Prime Time of sports. But music lives on and it's rules don't change. it's is true freedom.
Thanks to all the great guitarists here and to Hugh Masekela for writing the "Coal Train" tune; *GO* see his live performance of this mighty tune! [As i shed another tear about the story of poor miners in Africa--You must hear the lyrics of this song]!
Music transcends every color creed sex age religion and is... in my opinion... the greatest achievement of mankind, I only hope that as it travels through time and space it reaches others that trace it back to it's point of origin, and that they find a world of people that were healed and brought together by it... waiting to join the rest of the universe so that our music can be shared with everyone..everywhere..and that earth has contributed the very best of itself.
The good lord's father only mad one Steve Ray. He loaned him to us for just a little while. Then he called him back home. R.I.P.S.R.V. Your dearly missed.
Stevie and Carlos that's Timeless man you never going to find that & Again they both got a guitar sound nobody can touch Carlos's Azteca nobody can touch Carlos man or Stevie psychedelic baby to the Bone
Saw both of these guys on the same stage(at different times) and I can now die happy!! haha Said that in '88... and I stand behind that statement!! Just now right now.... DON'T quote me!!
Just for the record Carlos is always been my favorite guitar player since day one since I was a Youngster first time I heard you Roper man my heart just melted I said damn that boy can play you the man Carlos
Double neck hamiltone guitar I believe. Bottom neck was supposed to be a bass but he asked for it to be custom made as a 6 string bass. Can’t imagine how hard bends like his must be on a 6 string bass.
great jam . people dont know great music these days. they would play all nite .if they let them carlos is the man. keep jammin stevie where ever you are .great post thank you vm.
SRV is greatest of all time. Santana is my fav to listen to every day, But that night, That time , Belongs to Jimmy,. Jimmy Vaughan out played EVERYBODY that Night !
Thank you so much for posting this. Have been lucky enough to see Stevie, Jimmy Carlos and am going to see Cesar Rosas tomorrow. On the same stage!?!?!? What? Realize the recording is rough but I really don't care. It is a treasure. Thanks again.
While he starts of a bit fumbly.. But he sure makes up the second half which is really really great and there, for that part I do agree; Santana is doing well.. Santana stuff, Stevie doing Stevie stuff, but Jimmy, he's inventive there.
Me too! I've been trying to figure out what kind of double neck it is; I see six strings on both? And it doesn't look like a Fender strat, looks more like a "Silvertone" or something similar
Wayne Iredale: Could it be just another 6-string tuned an octave higher or lower, or perhaps an electric 12-string, or maybe a guitar with a different pick-up set-up to give it a different sound?
Every musician should watch this. Carlos, Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughn, Cesar Rojas on guitar, Chris Layton on maraca and cowbell, Jose Chipitos Areas on timbales, Mike Shrieve on drums, Alphonso Johnson on bass, Greg Rollie and Chester Thompson on keyboard. Carlos shows very special respect to Jimmie, who is by far the least natural guitar player. I have to look into this particular point. And then yes, SRV is on that crazy double neck. There is definitely a point to that. I think he sounds perfect on it. This is a beautiful jam. Thank you so much for sharing it.
William Charles I think Jimmie comes in too early and plays over Carlos who wasn't too pleased and so he was paying him out with the false homage thing..
I'm deep into the rabbit hole what SRV opened up for me for years... Seen most of his stuff online.. but man it's in the little details, like how he drops that lick @ 7:47 is just insane, peace buddy. Also look at this @12:52 , funniest thing everm SRV on some percussive ball thing playing along !
Christ, you'd think in Southern Calif they could've found a better cameraman. Pull one out of UCLA film school, they would've begged to do this. And did a fantastic job.
I have the whole 2nd part of this show over on Bitchute and it's on here now finally, but this 'Coal Train' is the one that really stands out nice and spacey. It's hard to find a copy of even Carlos alone playing this, I think I have 3-4 from over on sugarmegs.org/ . I have one other audio only of SRV with Carlos ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xWxKPefhQss.html
@@splivin109 God Bless you too brother. I send music lovers that sugarmegs site often. It's unbelievable. At least 300 Santana shows under all kinds of different titles so you have to search. Each entire bootleg show is downloadable in about a minute.110,000 full concerts or something!!
@@jesusheals2 as good audio quality as this? footage is more than solid, but the audio is genuinely impressive. really loved carlos’ tone in this show and it comes through so clean too.
@@splivin109 This version I got from a guy 10 years ago, and thank God I made a copy because they took his down (YT used to threaten to sue you and give you strikes all the time). He wrote me a letter mad I posted it!! But I never was monetized and just wanted to share good music with people. Anyone who likes good music anywhere wants to see Carlos and SRV jam and then Cesar and Jimmie too. This all seems from one person with an old days VHS cam that was there. Carlos tapes all his shows on Cassette so he actually puts them out into the world for people to have and trade like the Dead do. This one is cleaned up better-people have all kinds of tech they use to make these a bit clearer, better as years go by!All footage I've seen is from the same concert here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U4MULK7WSmk.html
They almost shut me down too over 2 songs-it looks like a lot of people on YT have versions of this shared.I am not making any money off it and I did go so far as to say I got it from someone else who was nice enough to share it!If you can get yours up and running again I'll take my copy off if it makes you happier!!!In the meantime a lot of people who really love these guitarists all over the world appreciate that you put this out there in the world.....
CARLOS IS BLESSING THAT GOD (OR WHO EVER YOUR HIGHER POWER IS) GAVE US. HE ACKNOWLEDGE THE WONDERFULL ARTIST OF SRV, JIMMIE & CESAR. HOW THEY PERFORM FROM THE VERY DEEPTH OF THEIR SOUL!! CARLOS ALSO, ACKNOWLEDGED THE BAND. HE GAVE PRAISE TO ALL ON STAGE THAT MADE THIS HAPPEN. THIS NOT ABOUT RELIGION, THIS IS ABOUT THE VERY BEST ARTIST TO EVER LIVE WHO FILL OUR HEART & SOULS
This is exactly what music has lost, I hope not forever. Maybe musicians will stop bs with their digital gears and give audiences sentiments, feeling instruments played live on a shared stage. I miss that so much, like an hard drugs addict.
