I'm a "catch-up" SRV Big fan. 1st time hearing Dirty Pool.. what kind of black magic is he squeezing outta that.instrument of his soul?? WOW. This rabbit hole I never want to crawl out of! How was this much raw talent packed into one man? GOAT for sure. He honoured Hendrix big time with Voodoo child. (El Macombo version) How that guitar didn't burst into flames is still a mystery to me. What we may have heard in the past 30 years I can't even fathom. And the beautiful person he was known to be from the testiments I've read...I believe this world would have profited by his existance. He was better than ever at the time of his passing and I'm sure ready to soar even higher in his music and life. Still can't get over it, still such a loss. How about a reaction to "Fly on my sweet angel" as a tribute to Stevie? 👼 Always a fave of mine by Jimi. God bless all. ☮️
This and Tin Pan Alley are my two favorite Stevie tracks. I hold a little more love for Dirty Pool because he wrote this one. TPA was a cover, and damn better than the original too! That performance with Johnny Copeland is chilling!
SRV was a great guitarist but what impressed me even more about him and Hendrix alike was the greatness of their words, two of most graceful speakers I have ever heard!
To be able to strum that fast, that consistently, and for that long, is something to behold. John Mayer talked about how impossible it is, and he’s an amazing guitarist

Every bend, phrase & passage absolutely perfect. There's rare audio of Stevie playing this when he was a teenager or early twenties in clubs in Texas. Just as stunning then as well.

@@charlesreactss His brother, Jimmie Vaughan, was the guitarist for The Fabulous Thunderbirds. I saw him with Buddy Guy in August 2019 for two glorious nights in California. Definitely look up that clip, it's great. And, yes, Stevie is being booed by a few ignorant people. To be fair, the evening was supposed to be acoustic jazz. Not sure why the director, Claude Nobs, programmed Stevie for that night, but it turned out great for him. David Bowie and Jackson Browne were in the audience and met them in the lounge later. Bowie hired Stevie to play on the Let's Dance album, which brought him his first widespread attention and Browne let them use his studio in LA to record his first record, Texas Flood. Stevie mentions it in the 1985 Montreux concert. This is a terrific song. Look up the Live at Carnegie Hall album. He does an incredible version with a horn section.

You need to see his performance at the Presidential Concert 1989 it is like a mini concert, if you can get it he was really on the top of his game that night.

I like this concert even better than El Macambo (amazing itself). But there is a lot of special stuff in this concert. His version of Texas Flood is a little more relaxed and shorter but more controlled. He turned his guitar down I believe because it wasn’t meant to be an “intense” show so you can hear his band better and how spot on they are. He wasn’t very well known at this time and the audience was not there for this type of performance, and I think Jackson Brown and David Bowie took notice of him at this show. And IMO this is probably his best set list of any show
Thank you for another fantastic reaction! This was one of my favorites. I'll keep suggesting SRV for you... "Lenny" live al El Mocambo, "Hideaway/Rude Mood" live at Montreaux in 1982, "Mary had a little lamb" live in Austin or El Mocambo (both are great!), and Soundcheck.
He could not read or write sheet music. He failed music theory/history in school. It must be remembered Hank Sr (a goat in his own right) and 99% of the blues artists SRV learned from or worked with were much the same. This is pure prodigy and gift, an open conduit for the spirit and vitality of music and life to flow through to us mere mortals listening.
@@charlesreactss Albert King was Stevie's mentor and like a father to him. He was also one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time. They were just vibin' off each other that who track. The raw emotion was on a whole other level
You ought to check out the album Stevie made with his brother right before he died, ‘Family Style’. No one else I know of has done it. “Tick Tock” is famous, written by Jimmie and sung by Stevie; “Telephone Song” is about Stevie calling his girlfriend after the show, which is where he was going when he jumped on that helicopter; he goes wild on the guitar with all his Hendrix sounds. My favorite is “Long Way From Home”. Stevie goes nuts on lead, and Jimmie shows why he is one of the greatest rhythm guitar players in the world. Classic
