Such a sweet man. On stage, he looks so badass that you think he's probably so mean, nobody can talk to him. But, his speaking voice is so humble and sweet. His smile is precious. This man is so missed. There hasn't been a great, mean, hard, soft white blues guitar player since he died.
@@RonaldReaganRocks1 Up here in Illinois we still got some of the nicest blues players in Chicago, just earlier at the blues fest a guy slipped in the mud and mid song the band stopped playing and hopped down to check on the guy.
Stevie, such a kind, gentle, sweet guy...The saddest day ever, hearing on the radio, riding round Dallas, my home town, about such a tragic gut-wrenching, unbelievable, news flash about his death via chopper running smack into a mountainside in the cold, dense fog... just upon leaving a concert. Damn. How sad cannot be put into words... The loss was so palpable. Every windshield in the State of Texas on Every road, read RiP Stevie, Love, love, miss you, so much love the ppl showed. Complete total disbelief. Everyone came unhinged. Then his packed funeral at I-35 at the cemetery, where you'll always find guitar pics on his grave.. Total respect by all... His dad buried by him in the family plot.... Its been at least 10 yrs since i was there, then left Texas... STEVIE LOVED AUSTIN... AND BACK THEN IT WAS A SMALLER CAPITAL TOWN, NOT TOO BIG, LOTS OF MUSIC, Art, DRUNK SCENES, 6TH STREET BARS, EAST SIDE... STEVIE COULD BE AT PEACE OUT & ABOUT... BE HIMSELF. ★ BUT TODAY, AUSTIN IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM THE 70s, 80s, 90s... Extremely left wing politically in a conservative Republican Red State. He wouldn't recognize it today. Totally quatripled in size, population, traffic, a lot of big money, rich, way more greedy of a takeover. Oh its beautiful, yes. Its in Hill Country. Lakes, expensive huge homes, high taxes, its grown immensely since SRV passed. He'd really be blown away, maybe in a good way. NOT SURE... Mayne not. He certainly loved it when he moved there in 72... But it was smaller, little more private, cool, & he felt peace & serenity... He wad a shy, private cat.😂 Especially with his new wife & home at the lake... He was a man in a happy time & place. 🍀 It ended way too soon... ★ He was mesmerizing on stage! The one & only SRV, true Texan who loved his craft..... SRV & Double Trouble was (possibly most unlikely) to succeed into the higher realms of greatness, and they surely tore it up & lit a fire under that misconception, and turned this God willed, determined, man full of NO-STOPPING ENERGY, AND TO SEE HIM ON AUSTIN CITY LIMITS WAS MELLOW & MIND BLOWING! HE WAS THE GREATEST, IMO. I never tripped while watching him live, but I might have enjoyed it.... You couldn't take your eyes off him... Men & Women. He was a star burning ever so brightly! WITH INFLUENCE FROM Jimi, Clapton, Muddy, Buddy Guy, & so much more, including his brother Jimmy & the Fabulous Texas Thunderbirds.... He soaked it all up as a youngster with the odds against him, and he proved to be the genius he didn't realize he was. He was MUSICAL, A GUITAR WILDMAN, & thank God he stayed out of political circles & controvery. He was smart like that. Like Elvis too... Carefully spoken. Yeah, I bet Stevie would be a bit heartbroken over the later disposition Austin became extremely left winged, in a Solid Red, Conservative, Bible Belt state I cant help what he'd feel about Austin now, but I have a feeling he'd be doing what he always did: played badass guitar, stayed in his beloved home on the lake with loved ones. He loved his surroundings, and kept his political opinions to himself, and grew larger than life cause he was solid in his craft. I think he was an angel sent from heaven to spread love, peace, intelligent talks, & hopefully been in true love/happiness/content & maybe had a few Stevie Jrs, or otherwise. The sky was his limit. He was almost too good, too kind, too loving, too unselfish, too good for this world, that's ever growing out of control. Just like Jimi Hendrix. Ahead of your time baby!! Im glad I seen him, met him, loved his persona, smile, laugh, and Felt such awe for him while it lasted....💞💔💕💗💛💚🤍💙💜💖 RiP with your soul hanging out with Jesus. I know you were saved & took Jesus as your saviour!! God knows what's going down. Stevie was in the right place at the right time, even on his last night, cause he's a son of the Most High God. Amen. Love always, you Oak Cliff Miracle. Cant wait to see you in the spirit world. What a pleasant sight. RiP my buddy Stevie... 🌷🌳🌹🌿
This man woke my soul up to the guitar and how to live Now diagnosed with MS I live my life like he played guitar! Make every note as if it's your last! I love you Stevie.
Aside from being an absolute guitar genius, and a decent human being, he was almost singlehandedly responsible for the revival of the blues and reintroducing it to the younger audiences/generations. He was blues when blues wasn’t all that cool no more. In fact, he was nothing short of the modern savior of the blues [some might even call it rock blues; I call it SRV’s Blues].
I have to remind myself to play his music periodically, because if I don't, I find myself forgetting just how incredible he was. Still haven't found anybody else who comes close. There's nothing like starting your day with "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and some fresh coffee.
Mary had a Little Lamb always brings a smile to my face. Even now thinking of the audacity and humour in it, not to mention the great guitar if course 😊
Grew up with three brothers love them all and my face lit up when I used to talk about them too you know this is a really really good and normal and just I mean it's family style what can you say I mean I grew up with three brothers I love them I love them still I mean we had a problems but God I mean you love your blood you know what can I say it's not just Texas and I'm from Boston Massachusetts and what can I say honey I will love them until the day I die
I Take Comfort In Knowing That Stevie Knew & Was Close To The Lord - As His Mother Martha Said After His Death - Stevie Wrote In A Journal About How He Felt He Was Being Guided, After Recovering From His Horrible Addictions, He Dedicated Himself Again To His Music & Spreading SO Much JOY - And His Message Of Hope & Sobriety....He Is SO Very Missed!💔🙏...S💞S❤😘
straight sober ,messed up or down ,didn't matter he was still humble and never arrogant and always thoughtful of others and never shining light on him self..
@@theoincontridetoledo0112 He Just WORSHIPPEDC& ADORED Jimmie! I'm SO Glad For The Rare Times They Got To Tour Live & Record Together - You Can FEEL The LOVE There - & The Raw TALENT Is Just SICK!!!😲...🎸🎶🎤....😁😍😉
I just heard his composition “Lenny” on the radio, here in Sion Switzerland. WOW! What a masterpiece, and what control. It’s like he and his guitar were lovers slow dancing together. He was before my time. He died when I was two years old. Now when I listed to Lenny, it’s makes my cry. What a huge loss to the world of music.
There was a Fender Stratocaster he saw in a pawn shop he really wanted but he didn't have the money so his wife Lenny went to several of her friends and got $10 to $30 from each of them and bought the guitar for him, when she gave it too him he named it Lenny after her and sat at the foot of her bed that night and wrote the song Lenny for her. It really is a beautiful song.
He staryed working wit lighter gauge actually. His tech was talking about it on rick beato. His hands would get worn out playing night after night. He was playing 10s when he passed. Most the greats use 7s and 8s believe or not.
Yep. All the 70s stuff is gone. I mean, now it's just a big city, like any other. No personality. No coolness. No uniqueness. It's done. Glad I was there when it was real.
Wish I could have met him, and had a smoke with him, seems like he enjoys talking to people, and laughing. 31 year's in August of this year you've been gone, but you are forever loved, and never forgotten. R.I.P to the best of the best.
He looks older and then you look close and you see the little kid behind the weariness still stoked on playing......wow he really tore it the hell up ..:-) Love ya mate
Stevie's "Little Kid" Inside NEVER Missed An Opportunity To - Or CREATE An Opportunity - To PLAY - Like A Kid! It Shows In Everything He Did - SO FUN!!☺😊
As someone who is intoxicated out of his mind while watching this, I do recognize the exhaustion that results from trying to be sociable while under the influence, but he still manages to be genuine and intelligible in the interview. Sober or not, he definitely deserves any recognition he gets...
This is heart breaking. Especially since everyone now knows what his life was like behind the scenes back then. Thankfully, he was able to kick his habits and still have his best years, before he died. RIP Stevie!!!
@Thunder Bird I think its very sad that he died. Other than that his life up to then was well lived and Im glad about that. His issues w drugs was unfortunate. I misunderstood you. Sorry about that
Listening and watching Stevie Ray play is like witnessing what it must be like to be touched by God. God Bless him. Such a sweet guy. I suppose the Lord just felt He had to have a lead guitarist in His band and needed the very best.
GotDAMN he was so hot and funny and sweet and gorgeous and oh lord we lost a great one. And he loved jewelry, i love his fashion sense. Just all around goodness ❤
It immediately shows that he was tired of all the tours, obviously because he put his all during every concert. But what I actually like about him is that there is no bullshit you d see nowadays in musicians even though he is genius that s what makes him a legend.
He is the reason I started playing guitar. I know everyone has their favorite, but man was he incredible. It felt like his guitar playing had so much emotion in it. I remember when I finally got to the point to where I could play at least one of his songs and it’s literally all I wanted to do is play that song non stop. Even till this day I still go back on his music and listen to it.
YES, very nice, seemed like a bar guy too, great sense of humor. Makes me wish I was born in Texas. Great BarBQue, even though it can be found in a lot of places.
DAMN, I wish this incredible man were still with us. What a horrible, sad day of my life when I heard the news. Brilliance like this will not be witnessed again anytime soon. R.I.P. SRV. God Bless you.
Every SRV video has someone saying the same kind of thing. Is there a musician whose loss still hurts after so many years? I think not. SRV was the best.
The man had a beautiful soul. I hope the when we get to heaven or wherever or whatever is next after this life, he'll be there. With Jimi, Albert and B.B rocking the house down
Stevie Ray Vaughan had struggles and came around a young age and progressed onward in his life..But..he became the best in blue's and rock while he struggled on..Stevie became a music legend and singer that his fans loved..he had a great band ..Stevie lived for his music and he thrived and went around the world to perform and be recognized for his music he played..Stevie could entertain you and he never got tired of it..Stevie is sadly missed and always will be missed..still listening to Stevie's music in 2021..RIP Stevie
Man after hearing that snake story it makes me want to be his friend even more. It’s not very often you get to hear from a guy with such talent but can still shoot the shit like a normal man. Kind of makes you wonder about the rest of us when only the good die young.
Stevie keep me from being away from all the bad stuff through high school. All through high school and college keep me focused on my school and work. To bad he's not here making music, I can listen to him and his music will never get old. I hope younger generations will listen to him and not that junk that they play now.
6:11 to 6:33 is a maxim for us all to follow, evermore in these trying times.SRV had so much heart and integrity and that is reflected in this interview."GOD BLESS YOU"
God, he was so wasted doing this interview. So glad he was able to clean up and enjoy a few years of sobriety before he left this world. What an amazing talent and even more amazing man.
Stevie Worked SO Hard For His Sobriety & Damn, He Really GOT IT..... WHY It IS The Way To Go... Better Than Anybody Else I Ever Heard - In An AA Meeting Or Out - And He Was Able To Articulate That For People @ His Live Shows & In Interviews! So - Your Getting Yourself Lost For Quite A While There In "The Chemicals", & Your "Breakdown" Was Not For Naught, Stevie!! GOD LOVE YA!!🙏🙏🙏💞
I love Stevie Ray man. He was one of the coolest cats in music history. I'm impressed with this interviewer. She asks damn good questions. I think she didn't do to bad. God Love Tejas! 🤘😝
It's Horrifying To See Just How Addicted To & Dependant On Drinking (Likely Laced w/Cocaine😭) Stevie Was @ This Point In '85....Before He Finally - Thank God - Hit Bottom & SURVIVED!... In September Of '86 - Then Got Into Detox & A Good Rehab Program & Got Completely SOBER - & Sober He Remained Till He Left Us In Late August Of 1990🙏 What A Blessing!! Stevie's Recovery From That Level Of Substance Abuse Wasn't Likely...But God Had His Back & Stevie Was Willing, Ready & Worked HARD For It! His Sobriety Meant Everything To Him, As He Shared w/His Audience In Every Live Performance After Returning To The Road To Tour.... I Was Already In AA/12-Step Recovery When I Heard Stevie Tell This Story - The Last Time (Of Many) That I Saw Him Live - Just A Few Weeks Before That Horrible Crash & We Lost Him....But I Know It Meant Everything To Stevie To Share HIS Way-To-Close-To-Death Story With Everybody He Could & Try To Warn Them Not To Do Drugs...Because The Cost Was Too High & The Losses Too Great, & Too Permanent....This Was A Very GOOD & Caring Man - Aside Of The Incredible Talent & Personality He Was Blessed With - He TRUELY Was Awesome With People & Sincerely CARED About Them...Especially His Fans - He Didn't Want To See People Suffer Or Die Needlessly! I Sure Never Expected THAT Out Of An International Rock/Blues Superstar In The 1980's....BRAVO AGAIN, STEVIE!! I'M STILL PASSING ON YOUR STORY, STRENGTH & HOPE!!🙏 I HOPE FOLKS WILL KEEP LISTENING! GOD BLESS, LOVE YOU!❤SOUL💞SOUL!
When he speaks with the interviewer, he’s a calm, charming man. When he speaks with his guitar, he’s a badass guitar hero who seemed so invincible. May God test his soul.
Well, he lit it up. Who the hell are we to tell SRV not to smoke it? 😁😁 (But I'm pretty sure if he was told not to do, he'd put no argument. Such a humble soul he was. Sweet soul. He's missed every single day...)
“Exactly that’s all what it’s about if we can’t pull each other up and help people along we can’t do anything”- Stevie Ray Vaughan. I think about this quote every time I pick up a guitar and show people the skills I’ve Learned pull people up with a performance do something meaningful with the instrument
How amazing is it when they break from the (pretty mundane) interview for a few minutes (around 10:50) and tells the story about shooting the snake.....you just see the normal guy in conversation.....soo cool.
I was 21 when SRV passed. He is the ONLY musician that, when I heard of his passing, I was at work and made some excuse why I had to leave and just straight broke down on the way home. I was off anyway for the next couple of days and I needed every minute of it. My grandfather was more of a dad to me and I was destroyed over his passing for several months. But, as far as so.eone I'd never met, SRV? I can't explain it... it felt like I somehow knew him.
One of the greatest memories of my life was seeing SRV perform on New Years Eve at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. He was at his best. Amazing. A genuine soul who always played out of pure love for music and humanity.
Stevie,When I was 12, my mom came back from the store with the AC/DC shirt that I begged her for. She also brought home a shirt with your initials on it. Unfortunately, I didn't really listen to you until my early 20s, but since then your music and your sobriety inspired me to do great things in my life. As soon as I wake up in the morning, Lenny is the first thing I hear. Thank you for giving me a reason to believe.
He was the Chosen One, the One who will deliver the message. A message of hope for those who choose to hear it and a warning for those who do not." Stevie ray ahead of his time...
"Austin is one of the few places that isn't all about money." Yep, we both remember those days. I never had the privilege to see him in concert . But, yes, what an incredibly soft spoken, humble man. And Eric Clapton was blown away by SRV's magic and art. Dang, and SRV was cute . He was right on with the Austin prophecies. Sigh ..
He seemed to in tune with what he was doing, what he liked and didn't, and for good reason. He was a very excellent artist and musician, but it does take talent and hard work to be the artist he was! So sad he took that helicopter ride. What music we've missed, but only God knows when our last breath will be.
Man! What a hangover, Stevie! hahaha Thank God he got sobber before dying. It gave him a pretty touching clojure! Rest in Peace, SRV! All my prayers for you!
Even at the height of his substance problems he seemed like a nice guy, such a tragedy he got sober and then cruelly lost his life, a big loss indeed very sad
Don't bother with his studio albums, if you want his real flavors stick to live and bootleg stuff. That's what really stunk when we lost him.. he used to play in hole-in-the - wall-bars, unannounced, or barely announced that's how I was introduced to him. And when he passed away, we were stuck with studio albums. It was tough to get live bootleg stuff back then - you had to get it out of Mexico or Europe. Having the internet let's us go back and see some of the concerts we heard on albums, that would not necessarily be heard in Austin the collaborations he did with Buddy Guy and dozens of top musicians... That's where he's come back for his older fans - we get his live stuff on RU-vid. His concerts far beyond any studio album. One night you'd hear a 10 minute version of Mary had a little lamb, or Superstition, the next time you'd see him play? Theyd jam on 1 of those songs for 45 minutes... Or go back and forth between those two songs We didn't "listen" to his live concerts - it went through us. Totally bypassed the ears, and went straight to your soul.
Just still a great loss to the music world! The man is a humble human being who struggled with addiction, but showed his grace/love and true talent to us all! He is missed every day. God Bless you SRV and RIP always!
