When Albert King puts his arm around you and says "You're the only white boy with a black daddy." and begins introducing you as his son... You are the GOAT. Period. End of story.
Isn’t it amazing that he never hesitates. Clapton said it best. “Stevie Ray Vaughan was an open channel. The music flowed out of him naturally. Never lost. Never a mistake. Just incredible. One of a kind that we will never see the likes of again…….EVER!❤
That song from SRV was an homage to Jimi Hendrix mother. Notice he didn't sing because only Jimi could sing to his mother. He also played small parts of other JH songs because he was SRV influence to play for other people.😊
You guys noticed how Stevie doesn't let up at this show. Before the show, Stevie actually said that he was gonna go out there and 'Not let up.' It happened that way for real. Chris and Tommy said that they didn't even have a chance to grab a drink between songs. Stevie never played from a Set List - it was all from his gut and heart and the guys were right there with every beat flawlessly backing him.
Yes, we should never forget Double Trouble kept up with this madman without ever missing a beat. They were righteous brothers to a great Texas bluesman.
Yes he did in one tour he was on tour with Jeff Beck and they demanded he use one and he said that was so restrictive and did not like it at all he likes to just go on stage and play whatever song he wanted .
This show is one of the best live performances ever recorded. I've said it before, but it is well documented that Stevie was very high on cocaine for this show, which explains a lot of the sweating, and yet it is still one of his best shows ever!
Can you imagine playing a Jimi Hendrix song and have your eyes closed the whole time and still play it to perfection? That's what sets SRV apart from all of the others...
There has never been another guitarist that had a flow like SRV. I always wondered if the well would run dry at some point but he'd reach down in that bag o tricks and there it always was. The man stood on the shoulders of all he idolized before him...
I know you guys would enjoy Stevie Wonder and SRV doing Superstition together. It's amazing. So much to enjoy when you think of either artist. SRV was simply special🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Not going to lie. I started following you guys a little while ago for your reviews on SRV. But, this is the one song I was waiting for you to see. It's always good to see a younger generation show respect and appreciation for what was done in the past. You guys have a blessed day.
This is Jimi Hendrix's song, and Stevie absolutely did it justice; I like the fact he made it purely instrumental; it seems more respectful that way. He made the guitar sing ❤
True. This is one of Hendrix's signature songs, and SRV didn't deviate very much from the original arrangement. Very respectful, but oh so soulful. When I was a kid I slagged SRV for being a Hendrix clone, but very quickly I recognized the error of my ways. Unfortunately, soon after I realized how great he was, he passed. One of the few regrets I have in my life is never having seen him live.
Do a RU-vid lookup for Jimi Hendrix Little Wing solo. SRV's cover is essentially a faithful rendition of Jimi's solo but embellished with Stevie's style. Both are fantastic and hearing Jimi's original (improvised) version shows just how great he was and why SRV admired him so much.
The thing about Stevie is he never played anything the same way twice. So when you explore other performances of the same sings you are always in for a treat. His brother used to say that he never even played anything the same way once, haha. Oh and yes, this is a Jimi Hendrix song. He also covered Hendrix's Voodoo Chile.
Fun fact. Stevie's older brother Jimmie Vaughan, from The Fabulous Thunderbirds, had a band in the '60s that toured with Hendrix around the south and rumor is the wah pedal that Stevie used he got from his brother, who in turn had bought it from Jimi Hendrix while on tour. I don't know if it's true but I like to think it is that Stevie played Hendrix covers with his own wah pedal. It is possible.
At this El Mocambo show Stevie moves from Little Wing right into Third Stone from the Sun, which is mind blowing to say the least. Highly recommend y'all get back to this and watch the two together. If you like Stevie, It's not to be missed. seriously. Another great reaction to SRV. thanks for keeping it going.
This is another Jimi Hendrix song, but Hendrix version had lyrics. Stevie made this song, his own removing the lyrics, and just taking that entire guitar solo to a whole other stratosphere!! Stevie Ray Vaughan recorded an instrumental version in 1984, although it was not released until 1991 after Vaughans death his interpretation of the song won the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Yes, it's Jimi's song and it has lyrics (from Axis Bold as Love album). Eric Clapton said that Stevie was a channel for his guitar, the music just played through him. I watched a guitarist try playing with 13 gauge strings like Stevie used and he couldn't do it; hurt his hands too much, too hard to bend.
I'm just gonna keep posting this 👉 Y'all really need to watch : Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan-"Look at Little Sister ". I'm not even kidding about that performance. It will blow your mind. Stevie Ray allows Jeff to shine ✨️! It's a once in a lifetime must watch. Jeff was blind BTW. 🥳💯💣💥
watching and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan, acting is breathtaking, try: Sweat Home Chicago 1990 with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan (his brother) and Robert Cray! It's good to listen to good music in good company!
you totally missed the transition after Little Wing....into Third Stone from the Sun....which is also a Jimi song.....about aliens arriving to earth and the battle that happens...makes missile sounds with his guitar. A must listen for SRV fans.
ii have been a fan for a long time. i worked secutity back in the day at Hara Arena and saw stevie open for jeff beck. this is the song that i want a female to dance to.
Both SRV & Prince seemed to speak better through guitar than anything else (yet both could sing). Glad y'all reviewed this song. A relative, who introduced me to SRV (and I introduced Prince to them), said they want this song played at their funeral (hopefully MANY years from now). That's how deep SRV reached into the soul.
hard to beat his live performances from El Mocambo but i've mentioned to yall before, check out his live perfromances of "leave my girl alone" and "tightrope" at austin city limits. Hes at the peak of his powers.
SRV was preaching to the world. What a beautiful human being. I fantasize just thinking of the things that this man would have accomplished musically and spiritually had he lived a long life. We can only imagine but my money is on Stevie ❤
Hi my friends srv a true legend great reaction a young gentleman taking RU-vid by storm is ren -hi ren this video has had 3 million views in 2 weeks and it is pure genius worth a look many thanks love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
Love Jimi, but I also love to watch reactions of other songs Stevie did and even wrote himself. There are so many. Glad to have seen you guys react to Riviera Paradise which is one of my favorite songs that Stevie wrote.
Your passion for caring deeply about the music you do shows how much you are personally invested in and motivated by the music you provide and give us your insights. It's a joy to see the kinds of music you choose and how much you respect the music and your subscribers. Great job guys. Keep up the hard work and commentary. You should give "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" Album a listen - Eric Clapton and Duane Allman (from the Allman Brothers) play some amazing stuff on that classic album.
Thanks guys - just became a Patron and I’m getting all the old dawgs at my Local Pub to see about joining too! Music has no color or age…just magic and understanding.
I saw this same in Detroit on this same tour in 1983. I also saw him about a dozen times after that every time he came around the Detroit or Toledo area. He was the best. He is my number one. I like your guys reactions the best. You do it so intelligently. Keep it up
Someone has probably already mentioned this subtle homage to Jimi on his primary signature SRV guitar. He mounted a left handed tremolo on his right handed Strat. The tremolo bar is supposed to be on the bottom of the bridge. Thx guys
For years, YEARS, this was the song I woke up to. I had a cd player alarm clock. Hahahah people would always ask why I was happy everyday. This was also played every morning by Walton and Johnson at the beginning of their radio broadcast.
Stevie’s the perfect jump off point to checkout other popular guitarists of the Classic Era. Frank Marino (and Mahogany Rush), Robin Trower come to mind, as both gained influence through Hendrix as well. Keep killin it guys. 🤘😎
Stevie was so naturally talented at staying in the pocket and had beautiful style of brute force and simultaneously delicate navigation around the instrument that was so unique.
At the end when he went over to the Amp they were playing just apiece of (1983 a merman I shall turn to be) by Jimi Hendrix. A long instrumental type song with VERY COOL LYRICS. A very very good song I recommend to listen to while chilling with good earbuds. Like your podcast 👌
Would love to see your reaction to Beth Hart - Am I The One - live at Paradiso . you have become my favorite reaction channel. Please keep it real and never fake reaction. Love your channel
As John Lee Hooker said about Jimi: "That Red House, that'll make you grab your mother and choke her! Man, that's really hard, that tears you apart. He could get down, he could mash it, yeah, Lord!”
@@vrvaughn I've seen lots of Jimi. He was one of my "go to's" when I was growing up. (I'm 70 years old) My statement didn't say Stevie Ray was better than Jimi. My statement clearly said that it was just different and you could tell. Not better.
In 1983 one of my friends came over, he said you gotta check this out. There were 3 or 4 of us, all rock and roll fans. It was VCR tape of this recorded performance. None of us had heard of SRV at that point. We watched it, blown away by the entire performance. I loved it all but really remember Texes Flood and Lenny as the two that just blew me away for different reasons! Been a fan ever since! Nice reaction guys!
Awesome video fellas ,I am 39 and never new the was Hendrix song till my pops mentioned like 5 years ago, It was a shocker yo me cause you think you would know that how much their music is in my daily rotation....felt dumb founded
The GOAT, saw him 6 times between the ages of 13 & 17 (1986-1990)all by myself, because no one I knew them was into him. Boy, are those people kicking themselves now. PS, I'm a recent subscriber, and I love you guys.
I saw him live 8 times. Last time I left the lake to go see him, no one would go with me so I went alone. He played with BBKing and Joe Cocker at an outdoor concert in Dallas in June 1990 and died 2 months later. That was the best concert I’ve ever seen.
