You all don’t know how many times I’ve commented to every reaction channel to react to THIS VIDEO and it always falls on deaf ears. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for you guys to do this one. I have often called it a “ grown up song” by SRV. It’s such a shock to see and hear him play such a song totally different from his repertoire. Thank you guys. You gave this old guy a lump in his throat and goosebumps.

It was definitely “in him.” I was lucky enough to see him perform many times around Austin and beyond. Of course he possessed technical prowess through years of obsession and hard work, but when you watched him play, it was apparent that there was an extraordinary amount of innate talent. Even when playing extended solos and improvising, he was never lost or searching where to go next. He was like a conduit connected to something higher and the music flowed through him almost effortlessly. He could crush you with a blistering blues driven hard rock solo, and this song shows he could silence a crowd with beautiful melodies as well. One of a kind.

The studio version of this song was recorded in the middle of the night with almost all the lights out in the studio. they asked the engineer if he had enough tape and he said yes. They started recording and SRV had his back to the engineer and after playing for quite a while, the tape was running low. The engineer was trying to get anybody's attention but no luck. They were into the song. Finally, the engineer got Chris Laton's attention and was giving him the "cut" sign. Chris got SRV's attention and gave him the "cut" sign. They wrapped the song up and as soon as the last note faded out, the tape ran out. They did the studio version in one take.

Couldn't click fast enough when this came up👋👏✌️‼️. This is an original composition by Stevie from his "In Step" album which was his first album after rehab and getting clean and sober. The whole In Step album has several songs conveying the struggles of addiction and the blessings of sobriety. Crossfire, Tightrope, etc. even the title In Step refers to working the AA 12 step program. Touring after rehab Stevie always had someone find where meetings were in the place they would travel to. He was very proud of his hard won sobriety and spent the last 4 years of his life helping and encouraging others to find the peace and happiness he had found. This song is a soothing balm to a weary spirit and imparts understanding of the struggle along with the promise of the rewards of coming out free. That's why in the beginning he dedicated it to "all who are still suffering in any way". And yes Reece🎹🎹‼️🎶Reece is Stevie on the piano💯. Reece joined DT in August of 1985. This was a true Band of Brothers who loved and respected each other very much. Stevie insisted all performance fees be spilt equally between them which was never done. You guys will really love "Lenny" a love song to his ex wife that is truly beautiful. Most people will suggest this one from the El Macombo and it is truly great but hardly anyone reacts to Lenny from his Toyko concert. The camera work and audio/video is excellent and it is my favorite version. I hope you will check it out. Thanks so much for this today guys! It made my day✌️

Late in his career he matured and learned a valuable lesson from B.B. King, who said that sometimes what you don't play is as important as what you do. He meant that the pauses and silences between notes can be very meaningful. You can see Stevie learn that and incorporate it into his later performances. He constantly improved throughout his live. What could have been?

SRV could play jazz he just didn't feel confident playing or showcasing his talent. Listen to Lenny. He wrote the for his wife on a guitar that she and friends put together to purchase. This preformance was from Austin City Limits you can get both Live performances on CD's and video. One show was before he went to rehab and the 2nd show is after. He looked so much more healthy. When he got out of rehad he didn't think he would be able to pick up the guitar or play. He said I've never played straight . But when he plugged in he played his ass off. The song Walkin on The Tight Rope wss written by Double Trouble while he was away. Tommy Shannon had also went into rehab. He uses GHS 13 strings. He listened to Hendrix everyday. Shannon played with Jonny Winters and other bands. Stevie played the solo on on David Bowie's song Let's Dance. Bowie asked Stevie to join his band. Stevie said sure but I would like to open the concert with Double Trouble. Bowie said no. Stevie had told Double Trouble about the offer to join Bowie. They told him to take the offer that he could go big.mHe said if Double Trouble could be with him he was going either. He looked at them as equals to himself and the music they made together. The octaves he plays that you say sounds like George Benson are done by a number of jazz and rock players. A jazz musician named West Montgomery use to play octaves quite a bit it was part of his style. Every musician takes various ways of playing from other guitarist that they grew up listening to or listen to today. It what you do with it to make it your own, put your own twist on it. I've played guitar for 59 yrs. I've listen to other guitarist and other musicians playing other instruments. I have yet to learn anothers song. I've listened taught myself how to play by playing z note and putting my fingers on another note. My ear could tell me if it was a wrong note either to sharp or flat and I'd move my fingers till I hit a note that sounded good. They I go back snd do it finding other notes. I learned how to play lead 1st which wasn't what I should have been doing. I should have been learning rhythm guitar 1st since 90 to 95% of music is playing rhythm. I had to go back and learn how to play rhythm. So any guitarist learning , learn rhythm 1st and use a metronome. Yes they can be a pain in the ass, at least it was for me since I could play lead over any rhythm that somebody else played. People that I would jam with showed me some chords and I took it from there. They would ask me how did I play lead and I couldn't explain it to them. I didn't even know the notes I was playing. But I got to s point that I could play anything I heard. I'd hear music on the radio and could see my maple fretboard and by tone knew exactly where their hand and fingers were. I'd get home and play what I heard. I have over 3000 CD's. I told various people I could play what ever I heard. I hear music in my head all the time. Not just guitar but how the drums and bass all fit together. I started carrying around a small tape recorder where ever I went so I could sing ,hum what was going though my mind, even doing drum bests. I'd record it and would sound good. I'd go with people to the music store and buy any CD they wanted. I'd tell them if a had it or not, I have all my CD's and albums in alphabetical order. I know everything I have. Some would pick out, jazz, blues, rock. Music with other instruments like sax, piano just what ever even eastern music . Music they never listened to. Take it back to my place put it on and I'd play it. Stevie could play all types of music but he was a encyclopedia of blues player. You could takk to him about blues mention a old blues player that most never heard of and he would start playing some of their songs and demonstrate riffs. I met him when he was on tour with Jeff Beck. He seemed to be somewhat shy, but once you started talking with him he would laugh crack jokes. But loved talking about guitars, amps and blues, basically music. We talk for a long time. I had built a 12 string acoustic which he played. He loved it and he said this is one of the best sounding 12 strings I've played. I looked at him and he said no I'm serious this thing sounds great it rings out nice resonate tones. The complete body vibrates. He said you should never sell or get rid of it. I gave it to my son who doesn't play but to him it's a treasure because of our tight bond . He also likes the fact that Stevie played it. I know a great deal and have met alot of famous people, but I never ask for a autograph or picture. Some I just look at nod my head or might say hello. To me they're just people like you and I but chose a profession that out them in the publics eye. Stevie was himself, he dressed the same way he did on stage, maybe without a few scarves and no guitar. He and Shannon would go to places like the mall and Stevie said, I wonder what people think seeing us dressed this way. One th8ng Stevie didn't do after a concert wss go out a party getting wasted with groupies. He would go back to the bus or to his room at the hotel and play guitar. Guitar was his love, it was part of him a extension of himself. What he couldn't speak to people he spoke to them through his playing. He was so kind gentle in his words. He allowed me to see his guitars and actually play them. He let me stay through their sound check. It was amazing. He walked around hitting a few chords doing some riffs, playing just listening to his amps which were loud very loud. He wouldn't even say what song they were going to play for the sound check. He was playing walking around and noodling, and he started playing again. It didn't sound like the beginning of any particular song and the next thing the band kicked in . They had played so much together that they could look at each other or not make eye contact and knew where each other were going. It sounded like they had played this song together. I asked one of the road crew if this was a new song, he said no that they do sound checks like this all the time. He said it was like magic. They did go into various songs to check out all the monitors. Every once in awhile Stevie made a small adjustment in just one knob of a amp. He was very particular about his tone, tones or little adjustments that none of us would notice but he did. His amps were always setup the same way, but sometimes small adjustments were made due to the size of the venue. Sound also changes when the venue is full of people, but those adjustments are up to the sound engineers. The greatest thing of all Stevie allowed me to record on my mini handheld cassette recorder. I still have it and only shared it with a handful of people and never allow anyone to copy it. Oh I talked about him playing my 12 string acoustic, like I said I never take pictures of people of fame, why should I. They are just people, but someone took a picture of Stevie playing my guitar. It was one of those cameras that the photo comes out developed. They gave one to me and put one to Stevie, he laughed alittle smiled and said alright. I put the picture in the case with the guitar and it's still with it today. Also I spoke with his tech and come to find out I set my electric guitars up exactly to the same exact measurements that his are setup to. The string ht, pickup ht, trem I use all the trem springs so other guitar strings stays in pitch when bending strings or using the using the trem. Sometime before the concert, I told him how much I enjoyed our conversstion. He smiled and told me he really enjoyed it too. I went to shake his hand and he put his arm around my neck and gave me a slight hug. He called me by my name and said keep playing, your a damn good guitarist. I laughed said yeah sure I'll keep trying. He laughed smiled and told me to take care of myself and we parted. I told him I call my guitars my ladies, because they have that nice waist line, nice hip area, but they don't talk back, they only sing and speak when and what I want them to say. But at times they do give me feedback and say things I don't want them to say. But that's on me. I treat them good. I just can't understand why they scream at times. He got a kick out of that and laughed, and said I know what you mean. I feel like they are my ladies at times also with this smile and glint in his eyes. I didn't get to talk to Jeff Beck. He's on the shy side, talks to people but is quiet. I did get to hear his sound check also, but I didn't record any because I didn't ask permission. But to hear 2 guitar legions playing without any one in else in the venue except roadies, sound engineers and instrument tech was a gift. I can still see everything as if it were yesterday, I can still hear his voice, laugh , see his smile. Everything. It's a picture I wish I could share with so many. I think of him quite often, not when I'm listening to music, ii can be walking or driving and ill think of him for some odd reason. Maybe because we had some type of connection, the complete and total love of the guitar and music and each others company talking about what we loved.

Great jazz work. Would have loved to see him playing beside Pat Metheny on a jazz fusion composition.

I'm grateful to influencers like yourselves as well, guys, and love your honest reactions. I have been listening/watching videos of SRV all week now and hadn't heard this song. Oh, my oh my! Just when you think it couldn't get any better, it does! Even though this is one of his mellow tunes, he's just as electrifying and passionate. This is a beautiful, soulful tune. Reese Wynans is awesome on the keyboard, too. Stevie Ray had a great band. When Stevie Ray pulled on those strings toward the end (I counted 6 times), he pulled on my heart strings! Oh, my Lord!!! It's so easy to get lost in this song, for that matter, all his songs!

I've watched all your reactions about Stevie Ray and I have to say you two have class, just because you were growing up in the 80"s you two give this man all the respect, say incredible things about his ability to play and all the other comments you guys give and being the hip-hop gen you know excellent sound when you hear it and I am so glad that your ages and the ability to know what you have heard and felt is awesome. So glad I decided to hear your reactions about Stevie Ray, he would be very greatful to know how you two rated him. The lord took Stevie to early, he would of been 68 years old can you imagine what you would of done these past 32 years that he has been gone.? May he rest in enternal sleep and in peace.......R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan.....

I know I’m coming in late with this but the plucking of the string at the head nut you were fascinated with. His Guitar Technician said “ He had fingers like Vise-grips”. A true one of a kind and such a terrible loss for everyone.

This is just phenomenal! I had no idea SRV could do this. Kinda reminds me of Europa by Santana…smooth, complex but so easy on the senses. Your allusion to George Benson is so insightful. Thank you for this one!

Stevie was a sponge when it came to absorbing the stylings of others, and then making it his own. Besides George Benson, he also had to be listening to a lot of Jeff Beck when he composed this beautiful track. I highly recommend you get into some Jeff Beck if you like this style.

The FINAL studio Album with Double Trouble is called "In Step."...a year and a half after SRV nearly died from drugs and alcohol, he came back clean and sober. Working the 12:,steps....this song was the last track on the last Double Trouble Album....and he was freestyle, with reel to reel tapes, rolling, back turned to control room , and the engineer was freaking out cuz the tape was running out ( no pro tools in 1989) ...the Engineer was waving his arms, trying to warn Stevie that the recording was about to be scrubbed....Stevie finished the track , with 7 seconds left. Never knew.

Just hearing this song makes you think of all the great music we were deprived of when Stevie died. He was branching out and as great as his blues playing is, it would have been great to see more of this jazzy style and other styles he would have brought to us in the future.

Those who stay focused on mourning the shortness of his life here may miss the point of the gift he was given and which he shared. The connection to the higher Power SRV found. When Heaven opens to us, we will be able to meet those who have gone on before. We will see Stevie Ray and hear him again... with our new eyes and new ears... in eternity. His songs won't end, and there will be new songs. His gift will be understood by us even more in the presence of the Giver, who reached Stevie and connected our hearts through music and the love shown for one another. While here we can experience the wonder, grace, and blessing we've been given, but so much more is promised. Be ready, be patient, and look forward to that day. As Stevie would say, "Are you with me?" "...ALL RIGHT!"

Pretty sure this was a cut of his album Tightrope, after he got sober, and kicked drugs. You've played this and Life without you. Check out Tin Pan Alley.! As a blues fan, and Jazz, I agree with your comments about George Benson.
