Reese Wynans joined Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble in 1985, playing keyboards on Soul to Soul and In Step. Wynans performed with the group until Vaughan's death in 1990. (Reese is playing with Joe Bonamassa now). SRV didn't read or write music, he played by ear. Reportedly he practiced 5-6 hrs a day.
I'm not sure the man ever stopped playing. He felt incomplete without his guitar and played as much as possible, even in his sleep according to his ex-wife.
thanks, guys! SRV is unparalleled... I love one of his quotes, which was "I don't play with much finesse... I usually play like I'm breaking out of jail.." Yep, SRV - the GOAT... appreciate your reactions...
This is why you can’t mess around with the live music capital of the world. AUSTIN TEXAS in the front door or the back door as long as we get in the kitchen. We got the jams.
Hi Jeremy & Matt!! Thank you for this! Gotta love me this great example of the Texas Shuffle 😊 Can you believe people were booing them for being too loud and not being jazz. Luckily, Jackson Browne and David Bowie noticed them. Browne loaned them his studio for a week to record their first album, Texas Flood. Bowie had Stevie play lead on his Let's Dance album.
They were the first unsigned group to ever play Montreux and they were scheduled on an acoustic night! So by the the time they hit the stage the mood had been set in stone. No one expected their faces to get peeled back by this loud, (did I mention loud?) and passionate sounds coming from this group. When they returned in 1985 it was to a super excited and happy crowd to welcome them back.✌️💙
Yassssss, I'm so glad you do this kind of stuff! Just found this looking through your reactions for something to make my day better. Mission accomplished, so thanks, guys. I was in a band in the '90s and we actually covered this song, so very near and dear to my heart! He's one of the greats in my book. Loved this, Jeremy!
Sadly, I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The fog was so bad after the show that we stopped and got a hotel room on the way home. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Stevie's brother Jimmie and Buddy Guy. RIP SRV!
I’ve never been fond of the sound of a lead guitar, but when played like this, I have to say it was enjoyable!! Thanks for posting this this morning, Jeremy. It was a pleasant surprise.
SRV and Double Trouble were booed at their first visit to The Montreaux Jazz Festival in 1982, but you don’t hear the boos until the beginning of the next video. It’s kind of annoying, and kinda just amazing. I always think about how expensive it is, and how rich the audience is, that’s privilege. Ugh.
Ain't nothing tighter than a tight 3 man band. That said sometimes he added a keyboard player who could hold his own with Stevie. Check out the youtube video of the band playing at Nashville in 1987.
Just watched your reaction ,classic ,,, I saw Stevie twice in Sydney Australia, 2nd time I was against the stage , in front of him, were his song list was the words in white gaffa tape ,, fuck prince,,,apparently Prince didn't like him ,,,
