Stevie used real heavy strings - . 013 (high E) to . 058 or even . 060 (low E). But he tuned down a half-step to make them easier to play.

Stevie would never have said he was a legend or GOAT, etc. Not in his nature. He'd said his brother, Jimmie, was better player, Hendrix, or just about anyone else he admired. Nor would he have condoned people attacking you. Thank you for your reaction. New sub, here.

SRV never plays a song the same way twice. That’s one thing that makes him SRV. The whole playing behind the back thing was just SRV’s thing. It was expected. Just like if you go to a Motley Crue show it is expected that Tommy Lee will have his drum kit on a roller coaster or if you go to an AC/DC show it is expected that Angus will do a strip during The Jack. That’s just what makes them “them”. It’s significant to mention that before he did this cover he actually went to see Jimi Hendrix’s father and asked permission to do the song. Big props to him for doing that . Having said that ……. We miss you SRV😢

🤘SRV grew up in hell and survived to become the legend he is. I was in junior high when I started listening to him and then the tragic helicopter crash happened. Really sad day. But we can all drop the needle and turn it up to 11 and listen to that sweet guitar sing.

You should check out his performance of "Look at little sister" from Austin City limits. He breaks a string mid solo and swaps guitars without missing a beat in the song
@harrietmiller3982
@harrietmiller3982 2 года назад
Since you kept guessing the size strings he played and missing by a mile it only shows you've never really seen the size of his hands compared to most people. His hand size is out of proportion to his own body. The huge muscles in his forearms from repetitive non stop playing since age 7 also helps him play his "piano wire" strings. Just for grins Google an image of Stevie and David Bowie with their arms around each other's shoulders! You can clearly see his hand size and strength advantage enabling to get those great bends you see and he still breaks those suckers on a regular basis. One of his best broken string, guitar switch I've seen him do is "Look at Little Sister" from Austin City Limits in 1989. It is boss level and his guitar tech is race car pit crew fast. Check it out! Stevie doesn't miss a beat. I know you said if you know your guitar playing behind the back isn't that hard. Maybe, but you sure don't see many players do it. It takes a lot of arm strength as well to hold it far enough away from the body so it doesn't mute the strengths. Heck a lot of people can't even get their arms behind their backs let alone play a guitar. So bottom line is it just mesmerizes me to watch him play as his commitment, passion, and love of playing is so obvious and he gets swept away playing but he takes us with him. 🎸🎶‼️✌️💙

22:55 - Stevie actually always used really thick gauge strings - it was a pretty key component to how he got his tone - i think he used 10s or 11s usually. He was a monster on the guitar, finger strength like no other to get bends like that on those strings

There is no excuse for anyone to make such inhuman threats. Everyone has a right to their opinion and you are always so constructive and sensitive in your opinions it is refreshing to see, and you back it up with actual experience and knowledge. It is a shame there are some caustic individuals out there that seem to get off threatening others from behind their keyboards, there is no justification for that behavior for any reason. Keep up the great work love your reviews I've learned a lot about how my favorite music is actually created.

I subscribed to this channel almost purely for the reasons that--1--this channel doesn't pretend to lie about a songs strengths and weaknesses. DH simply gives his honest and objective thoughts. I certainly don't agree with every score, but he good thing is that DH gives well thought out reasons for why, and he doesn't allow the genres he prefers to get top scores, his criteria can be applied to all genres. I've found myself being entirely to subjective when approaching songs and have as a result shut myself off from a variety of styles that if i looked at honestly and non-biasedly, i may just end up enjoying. Im trying this with metal---slowly--and i've come to appreciate a number of points that David has made about composition and arrangement. The 2cnd reason is that this channell, including the comment section seems overall very clean and civil. And heres the secret--it starts with the leader

This is a version a few years later at the legendary Austin City Lights show. It's is cleaner (as was he BTW). (Note: SRV was known to use the HEAVIEST strings. He went down a notch later on) The second half lead is insane, and the bends at the end will send you into overdrive. Just for you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wgIB1OL09H0.html

Yeah Satriani is also amazing at Bends. He's way up there in my book when it comes to String Bending. However, Satch doesn't use 13 gauge strings like SRV did. Satch had always used 9 until he joined the band Chickenfoot around 2008 and then switched to 10 gauge strings with his guitar tuned half a step down which he continues to do to this day,

Loved your critique. I concur with your assessment of his vocals, SRV's complete knowledge of his guitar, and awesomeness of the rhythm section (Double Trouble is fantastic!). One thing, though... I'd absolutely give SRV two-tenths of a point more... to take the score to a solid 9. Why? For those snakeskin boots, lol. How could you not mention those? The way some artists dress for the stage is done merely as an affectation, but SRV loved everything he wore. Authentic through and through. His style was as much a part of him as his relationship with his guitars. Keep up the good work you're doing with these reactions. And shame on those viewers who sent such hateful, venomous comments. Honesty is the only policy that's fair to the artist and the audience.

1. Stevie Ray Vaughan didn’t play just one kind of strings Like most guitarists, SRV experimented with different string gauges throughout the course of his career (even going as high as .017s at one point!), but for the most part, he stuck with a high E of .013 2. He didn’t play “standard” .013s In most cases, a standard set of .013 gauge strings is as follows: .013 - .017 - .026w - .036 - .046 - .056 Thing is, SRV didn’t play a wound third. (Could you imagine playing his licks with a wound third? You’d have to have fingers like Thor.)

I get a LOT of hatred as well for all kinds of things. And similarly, i'm also being honest and not causing any harm by doing so. For example, I don't have kids either and i've had people tell me that i'm incapable of love and my love is in vain and invalid because of it. What?!?! 😠 some people..i swear. I have also criticized certain bands and artists that I genuinely dislike, and I get words like, "awful" "terrible", and ones that I can't even repeat used to describe me as a person. I don't know what's wrong with people. That's the problem with society in general. Funny thing is, it's usually only online, nobody ever says those things to my face. I don't think they would despite them saying so. Pathetic. Anyways, just saying I feel your pain, DH.

Also, quite the opposite. Stevie didn’t okay lighter gauge. He played heavier, his guitar tech Rene Martinez said than when he met Stevie, Stevie had his guitars set up with .13 on the high E. He recalls Stevie literally having to crazy clue his skin back on to keep playing, eventually Rene figured out a set that wasn’t as heavy but sounded good because Stevie was afraid of sacrificing tone for more comfortable playing. But even then the high e was an .11

Wrong. Stevie did not play "light strings". He used heavy strings...as hopefully you know by now...

Fandom, itself, is a little crazy! It requires a certain suspension of self-control. This abandonment is important to the fan's sense of participation, which informs his pleasure. The problem is self-control is an all-or-nothing thing--you're either doing it or you're not. Similarly, "abandonment" isn't something you can do just a little bit--yeah, like pregnancy, you know? My media production training has, in a way, ruined the media experience for me, as the habit of analysis interferes with the immediate experience. But that's ok with me...I appreciate a little distance--too much immediacy provides a compulsion I don't enjoy. I don't value the loss of self-control positively.

Ummmmm....you must have missed the first part of the video. I did a reaction to it, and I deleted it after receiving all the hateful comments and threats I received from it.
