This man is the greatest guitar player of all time. No question. Period.

That was barely human. The dude was from another planet.

He plays behind his back for damn near half the set, breaks the third string (actually, it was the fourth string, thank you SpikeyTarantula) near the end, keeps playing, then takes the guitar off, puts it on the ground, flips it around, and keeps producing some of the most awesome sounds ever generated from an axe. There are people who play the guitar, and then there are those who WIELD a guitar. And Stevie Ray Vaughan was, hands down, one of the best to ever wield a guitar. Rest in peace, S.R.V., and thank you.

No artist covered another artist the way Stevie Ray Vaughan covered Jimi Hendrix. He found the same wavelength that Jimi discovered and he did Jimi complete justice. Nothing but absolute respect.

This man played with the guitar behind his back; has played with a broken string; has stayed and finished a concert after experiencing a power outage; sweating under the lights; giving mooorrre than expected! The man absolutely loved what he did. Today’s entertainers don’t even come close.

If Jimi had made it another 20 years, wouldn't it have been badass to see the two of them on stage together tearing that song up?

For me, SRV is the only one who has come close to the true spirit of the original and whose is the only other version I'll listen to. No stupid 'who played it better' comments, please. This is homage, not a competition.

Love that he plays with his eyes closed in this. You can tell the amount of love and passion he had for his craft. Truly legendary

I was lucky enough to see SRV three times back in the day. One was a private session with maybe fifty people present in a private room. I was fifteen to twenty feet and to this day... I get all emotional about SRV. Some days it rips my heart out and I have to turn it off. Other days it brings me back to life and lifts my soul into the stars.

God damn you can tell in some of these shots Stevie's action was stupidly high. Not to mention he was probably playing on 12s or 13s here. Talk about man hands

Incredible! Best guitar player that ever lived. True prodigy - one in a thousand years... if that... does a SRV come along. That fucking helicopter crash was so tragic - his life was cut way too short and we were robbed of decades of great music.

I'll second everything great thing said about Stevie, but got to add his backing band are straight up killers . Stevie never did the same thing twice, and would take the energy up and down at will , and those Cats were ready to follow him at the drop of a hat. If you pay attention you can see them constantly watching him, waiting to see if he was going back to the mic for another vocal or going to extend whatever solo he was playing. And they are improvising as well when it fits, filling in the frequencies when needed ,flipping the beat, it really is impressive .

6:12 when he breaks a string he doesn't skip a beat. If you're not familiar with a Stratocaster, there are springs that provide tension for the tremolo. Stevie used 5 springs. Once the string broke each of the remaining strings were pulled tighter which would cause the strings to go sharp. Not only did SRV adjust to each string going sharp he also had to play the notes on different strings. The man was a guitar savant.

This was one of the songs he played for Jerry Lewis's MDA Telethon in 1987. I like his sign-off: "Don't forget Jerry's Kids, now..." SRV had a big heart.

Amazing guitarist. God took him early from us. But it's because he was finished with his work here on earth (explore The Sky Is Crying). Now he's rockin' in heaven.
