Ray Charles was Stevie's idol. He learned to sing listening to Ray (and others) and considered Ray Charles to be the best oiano player in the world. Ray was so proud of Stevie. Both geniuses. Both gifts to the world.
Stevie has had to say goodbye to a lot of friends, Ray Charles, Luther, Michael, Whitney, Prince....you could see the affection and respect he had for all of them and for sure they all loved him too.
z00ts00t77 very sad. George Michael was a great singer and I have heard his version of that song. He also covered another star. It would be sad for us blind individuals to lose Stevie wonder. We have already lost Ray Charles in 2004.
Stevie wonder kicks but with this remake. It would be sad for us in the blind community to lose this individual who is the musical genius. We have lost a lot of people over the years. Including prince. I hope that Stevie stays around for a good long time. He is one of my favorite singers, songwriters, and activist.
He standing in the end just made me cry... he really put his feelings in the songs he sings, but this particular one is outstanding. Go, Stevie... and Ray, you´ll be always remembered!

You're so right! I believe Stevie attended the same school for the blind as Ray had years before, so I'm sure he knew about him even before he (SW) started on his career. What is amazing is how appreciation transcends sight--it's the joy you can get from listening to a genius like Ray Charles.

He and Stevie were close, they both attended the same school for the blind, one was inspired by the other, they performed together, and now he's bidding his dear friend farewell through the song that made him famous. I saw Stevie in concert in Melbourne, Australia in October 08, and I am well and truly alive and still on a high after seeing him.I am determined to see him again when he comes out to Oz again,(as he promised)we were dancing in the isles. He is more than words can describe.
Oh wow. Loved the Charles track but cant find a hifi copy. First look for a decent cover & Stevie does that. He (& the Stones to be fair) just nail grooves. Its amazing.

Stevie Wonder is fantastic but without Ray Charles blazing a trail back in the 1950's and paving the way for many of the great soul singers of the 60's ,you might not of heard of Stevie Wonder .Ray Charles wrote a lot of his own stuff also , Ray Charles can stand shoulder to shoulder with any singer to have walked this planet !
No matter what us whities think we can not do it as good as our black brothers. They are born with music in their soul. And try as we may we aint never going to be as good as them when it comes to music.
whats noticeable about stevie is, that his voice and energi hasnt changed since the 80's.. he's still got it. Maybe it's because he must have been the only music superstar around that time that never did drugs
Stevie Wonder is pure genius. He has musical creativity that neither Elvis, Bing, Sinatra, nor anyone else could touch. That's not opinion, my friend, that's a fact. How dare anyone take a bunch of boring lounge singers, and claim they got anything to offer that's better than Stevie. Elvis and Bing were ok during their time, but even then, they plenty others who were better.
