Thanks for doing this great triple bill of Stu. I've got the DVD but hadn't watched it for years and had forgotten just how many funny things this show is full of. You're also the first people I've ever seen react to a whole Stewart Lee show...wish more did as he really is something special. His show 'Carpet Remnant World' is one of the most faultless comedy shows ever - you've seen the Osama Bin Laden piece but it's hilarious from start to finsih. Thanks again for this.

Lee’s act has evolved to the next stage. He is the most intelligent comedian. He is the Professor of Comedy. He will tell you when to laugh, what to laugh at, and why you should laugh. For some reason he can do this and make it even funnier. Check out his later stage shows, “Content Provider”, “Snowflake/Tornado”. If you are non-religious check out his extremely blasphemous, hilariously funny, “90s Comedian Excerpt”.

I recommend a clip where he’s ‘warming up the audience’ at the start of a Sheffield gig. Perfect example of how he first alienates the audience, before dividing them and then turning them on each other - Absolutely love his stuff.

You should deffo do more of his long sets. They are all very well crafted. Over the years he’s been refining his style/on stage character and at times he does go really deep into the act in a very committed way. He also had tv show which ran for a few series called “Comedy Vehicle” consisting of half hour standup routines.

He plays the part of an arrogant, self righteous comedian, that’s the character but also mostly what he thinks, that’s where folk get lost. It’s too subtle for many to get and that makes it funnier.

Stewart Lee is great! I don't know if you're aware, but the West End show he mentioned that he wrote was Jerry Springer - The Musical, starring David Soul of Starsky & Hutch fame playing Jerry Springer. It's well worth watching if you ever get the chance (unless you're easily offended, which I know you guys aren't).
@AndrewLakeUK

It was the tv show with the most swear words per minute. I went to see it and there was a protest outside by religious nutters, odd because to get the best out of it you need a pretty good knowledge of christian dogma, and (spoilers) it's the dying fantasy of a secular Jew.

Stewart Lee is brilliant. I wouldn't say he's like Dave Chappelle though. If I had to equate him to someone, I'd say closer to Lenny Bruce, but even then there are major differences. Stewart Lee does some very experimental, on the edge, stuff that can be very hard to appreciate. One that comes to mind is about Rap singers where he uses this mechanism of repeating ad-nauseum the same thing for over 30 minutes. Really testing the patience of the audience. Almost like an experiment. That said, I think he's fantastic and he's in my top 5 of all time.

The Ang Lee stuff is true btw. He genuinely interviewed Ang Lee and made that joke thinking it would give the two of them a friendly common ground to build on, because they both have the surname 'Lee'. Ang Lee wrongly assumed Stewart was being racist and ended the interview.

The reason he's saying 9th of November is because we do the day first then the month. Only 12 days a year look the same in the UK and USA. 1/1 2/2 and so on.

You can't say "the N-word in the UK". But Stewart Lee can. People accept him as an intellectual, ethical person and broadly understand his use of it. He uses it in this show and he also used it on one of his BBC shows when talking about a political flyer that was distributed in his are when he was a kid. In both cases it is a quote from someone he is criticizing. I believe his reason in both cases is that he doesn't want to let those people off the hook, but choses to quote them full to hold them accountable for the ugliness of what they said. The person he was talking about - Ben Elton - was a co-creator of Black Adder and The Young Ones. He was on the circuit from the early days of the alternative comedy scene in the UK. That scene pretty much had a manifesto of rejecting the racism, sexism etc. the existed in comedy before and had very strong principles and ethics. Elton later abandoned those and became an object of disgust for many.
