The Big 12 made moves immediately to not die while the PAC 12 did nothing, the Big 12 has guaranteed their future with good moves, Big 12 has been very smart.
That would be Tony Altimore, Spencer McLaughlin, Canzano, Wilner, 85% of PAC alums/boosters/fans/current students and families, and democrats who run things in those colleges and communities and conference along with other nincompoops across America; they are the ones who have been wrong on everything. I didn’t think this would happen no earlier than next year with PAC schools joining in 2025 so definitely get full ESPN share and hopefully FOX will give for 4 schools not just two more additions from a power/autonomy conference. So I was wrong. But I still thought the death of the PAC and one Non-Autonomous conference would not happen until next media cycle. But could happen within the next year to three before expanding playoffs to 16 teams.
No, they messed up when they hired this empty suit and made it worse by NOT admitting their mistake and cutting him loose after a month on the job. This what the AD's voted on so this is what they deserve. No pity here.
People make fun of the Big Ten for the fact Rutgers and USC/UCLA will be in the same conference, but if Arizona joins the Big 12, I find it equally hilarious they would be in a conference with West Virginia, Cincinnati and UCF. Everyone is going national and I personally hate it.
Outside of Texas and Oklahoma, what current B12 school was being courted by the B10, SEC, ACC, or Pac12? It might end up being a good thing losing Texas and Oklahoma though, seemed as if they held up B12 expansion previously.
There is a certain solidarity in the Island of Misfit Toys version of a conference. It's made up mostly of schools spurned by the Big 2 conferences or by schools looking to move up from the G5 or escape a sinking ship.
@@marwynthemasterful6369 SEC SHOULD add Kansas and West Virginia if it can figure out 18 teams... maybe kick out Vandy and a Mississippi school to make room
I remember reading about how Tech doesn't help the PAC and it seemed that we had egg on our face, then a Fox exec said they did the Big 12 deal because they wanted to maintain a presence in Texas. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
FOX is likely to RAID Texas for the BIG later. It is the last BIG PRIZE needed to maximize their plans. But they can't move YET. Texas has as good a shot as anybody that is left. Better WIN ALOT this decade.
They should have expanded in 2021 because the remaining 8 teams were begging to get into the conference and they could have got those schools on the cheap. By not expanding allowed the 8 schools to work together to find a solution to stay together.
Too hindsight. Can't blame the PAC for not pushing USC out by expanding counter to USC's objections. The objective mistake was not accepting reality when USC/UCLA noticed.
It was USC, UCLA, California and Stanford block that have been blocking the expansion for a long time. They just don't think Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU, Kansas State, etc worth adding. They treat them like Boise State. They wanted schools Like Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Kansas and Missouri than the other Big 12 schools. That was back in 2010 before A&M and Missouri jumped to the SEC and Nebraska leaving for Big 10.
🤦♂️In the year of our lord 2023 I still don’t understand why people have dumb takes like this. Lol FOOTBALL pays for everything. Every decision made is based off football. A pacific north west basketball team that’s never won an NCAA championship would not have brought anything to the table. However, I do agree that the Pac 12 was too arrogant and they should’ve added BYU years ago. I didn’t realize until recently how much of a national brand they are.
@@IEUNITED1906, the PAC 9 / 10 / 12 is crashing and burning. I do not expect this, but I also will not be surprised to see the Big 12 add Arizona. The B1G will add Oregon and Washington. If Arizona State and Utah are perfectly content to ride the conference as it crashes, no sympathy. The Mountain West is going to get the Hoover and clean up the mess. About Gonzaga. Their ticket to March Madness is punched before the tipoff of the first game. Do you have any grasp at all what this means? How deep in the tournament a team progresses is how much they are paid, for the next six years. The PAC 9 / 10 / 12 had Gonzaga literally anytime they wanted. Because they said no, look at the state of the PAC.
No, they messed up when Larry Scott tried to replicate the Yes Network! It’s what made the New York Yankees the most valuable franchise in MLB and the 4th most valuable franchise in all of sports. Or the Knicks and MSG networks making them the most valuable franchise in the NBA (even though they’ve been god awful for most of their years)and the 6th most valuable franchise in all of American Sports. Larry Scott dreamed of accomplishing the same for the PAC 12 with the PAC 12 Networks daring to own the rights to their content. It became the death kiss for the PAC as they went swimming with the Big Fish of ESPN and FOX who realized they as middleman would get cut out as the PAC would own their content. God forbid, what if the other college football conferences followed suit. ESPN would then go on a PR campaign of using their content to tell everyone how great the SEC was, how awful the PAC12 is and created a migration of west coast high school kids going to the conferences they were told were the best. As well, using their undue influence with Cable affiliates and DirectTV ESPN and FOX would quash distribution efforts of the PAC destroying a business model that all conferences should have adapted to maximize profits and take the proceeds to fund women’s sports and other collegiate sports that aren’t profitable. ESPN and FOX got to pick and chose the most valuable brands to add to their portfolio: ESPN takes Texas/Oklahoma from the Big12 and FOX takes USC/UCLA from the PAC and history, tradition and the beauty of college football gets destroyed. Remember this the next time your tempted to flip the Chanel to either of these behemoths. Support podcasts like this, specific to your college and conference affiliation… squeeze profitably from the corporate leeches as “the world wide leader in sports” is nothing more than the corporate blob that continues to up-slurp everything in site. The death of the PAC is a corporate hit job, a mafia like warning to everyone else.
@@MercerKnowsBall it’s called a “return key”. Given this is on-line chat I dind’t realize that punctuation, grammar and spelling were a prerequisite of reading hand pecked notes in a platform that doesn’t really display a page. Possibly, you’re reading on a computer or tablet (civilized). Sadly, I suspect most are reading on their cell and only 4 lines of text are displayed at a time. Either way, it’s not Shakespeare worthy prose, think you can handle it.
Pac 12 is dead. The senario i see most likely playing out is Utah, Arizona, and Arizona state all bail on the Pac 12 next week. Oregon and Washington then bail on Pac 12 and the 4 remaining schools are left holding the bag. I think thats the most likely scenario. Thats the worst case scenario and to me the most likely scenario for the Pac 12. Or should i say Pac 4....😢
XII will get Arizona... but for MAX VALUE you don't want Utah and Arizona St ACC is about to expand... XII is better off if ACC takes those 2 ACC is about to grab Oregon, Washington and Staford and 3 more ACC will get 1 from Texas if they took ASU and Utah they would be done. XII could then get Oregon ST and Washington ST (CAL if you want - but YUCK) 2 NEW States is BETTER for XII 4 teams in 4 states is better than 4 teams in 2 states BOTH ACC and XII are heading to 20+1 ACC gets their 1st. XII follows in 5 years Both will get 4 to 6 PAC schools (maybe 5 and 5 idk) ACC with have current 14, New 6 and the +1 is Notre Dame XII will have current 12, Colorado, Arizona NOW + maybe other PAC schools NOW for the Pro Rata Clause WHICH ONY EXISTS in the New 5 YEAR TV DEAL The +1 is Gonzaga and to round off to 20 you add the Top G5s left in FIVE YEARS SDSU, UConn and idk who is next. That is an issue for 5 YEARS from now. Now is the time to KILL OFF the PAC FOREVER.
There is a limit on ESPN side that they will only give full share from their side for 4 P5 schools and then any subsequent P5 schools would be treated like high value G5 schools. FOX is only going to honor potential 2 P5 additions for their side of the contract but don’t even have to do that. So that is why the limit is 2 P5 teams but not necessarily stop at 2.
2010, Pac10, should have grabbed Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, Texas Tech and been the first to 16. Central, Mountain, and Pacific timezones all used.
Pac 12 trying to reinvent the wheel like the current administration 😂😂😂 I doubt the PAC 12 survives. I bet big 12 gets Utah, Arizona, Arizona state, and maybe even Oregon and Washington and the remaining 4 schools are left holding the bag......
The Pac 12 wanted to take Big 12 schools, but, USC and UCLA vetoed that deal. The other schools were on board with it, but, I believe that it had to be unanimous. You can't convince me that USC and UCLA didn't know that they were working to go to the Big 10.
Not sure if unanimous, but I doubt that USC/UCLA knew they were leaving at that time. First, the Alliance was announced at the same time. Second. the Alliance did block playoff expansion at the first attempt. The Alliance failed and the B1G changed its vote later, which was a result of the move then in process.
USC was against PAC 12 expansion and killed it. USC decide to go to the Big Ten and needed a get away driver so they convinced UCLA to join them. UCLA and USC are rivals and connected to the hip and they are literally down the freeway from each other in L.A. UCLA was facing a $150 million athletic department debt and was on the verge of cutting half of its athletic teams so they were motivated by survival to join the Big Ten. For both USC and UCLA, joining the Big Ten is the only way for their athletic programs to prosper.
For what? He contributed his services, not like there’s a performance clawback clause. Imagine asking an employee to give their wages back after theyve done the work, it’s ridiculous.
the big 12 is fighting for its life and doesn't give 2 shits if it kills another conference in the process. Its us or them in the mind of the conference. it knows its its in the have nots compared to the big 14 or the sec but that admitance puts it ahead of the other the acc and the pac 10.
each positive news for the big 12 is a new hit for the crackhead conference and i guarantee you they'd gut the acc for other the second they get the chance. The big 14 doesn't like the optics of killing another conference but the big 12 will do it and smile the if it means survival. Honor means nothing to a dead man.
