very friendly warning, get rid of that zev tech trigger immediately, have had 2 now that had COMPLETE FAILURE, locked up the gun and it could not fire. I called them after the first one and they said that was normal and they would send me another. I will never trust my life with that crap. The tiny spring that pushes the trigger safety out will weaken and then turn sideways when slack is in it. thus locking up your trigger and not allowing it to fire. Apex trigger seems to have a trigger that is much better anyway and have fixed this RECALL THAT THEY WILL NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR. Going to get someone killed.
Great vid. STI makes an incredible match gun. For practical use, I'd go with the Wilson Combat in the price range - for real life - the G19 Gen5 all day.
@@juniortoro4751 yes, I shoot uspsa where STI is popular and they aren't defense guns by any means. The mags needs to be spotless and feed lips tuned. I would never think to carry one of these but they are cool as hell. Every stage you will see the guys have to completely break down the mags and clean them just from having touched the dirt.
Going back to a 1911 trigger after shooting all others is always a joy. I think you need to commend your watchers for not jumping all over the trigger pull weight error. Very mature for the internet
I just caught that and fixed it in the comments. I’m always bummed when something slips through editing but it is what it is. Glad you said something! Thank you and cheers nomikes!
Damn just the sound of you racking the slide on that staccato makes me want one even more, currently selling a few guns I don't shoot much to get a c2 duo
Maybe a little late to the party, but I was shown a Staccato P at a local gun shop. Then started doing some research here on RU-vid. Went back and pulled the trigger (pun intended). Your reviews are incredibly helpful. Thank you
Another great review KS. I am stoked for you getting to handle and fire such fun and diverse firearms. I Really like 1911's so this 2011 gets me wanting some range time with it. Thanks for all you do! Much love y'all!
Great video. I picked up mine about a month ago and love it, but not perfect. For that kind money, full night sights or a night sight/fiber combo would be better, not to mention a third magazine. Aside from those complaints, the only other thing I didn't love was the very uninspired finish. But its a fantastic shooter and I've carried it daily since I got it. I love 1911's, but this is my first 2011.
Gorgeous piece you have there! The tree bark grip is incredible. Great review! I have an STI addiction lol. I’ve got a combat master, carry costa comp, marauder and Omni with a C2 DUO on the way 😆
STI makes some very nice pistols, and that Wilson Combat is no slouch. I'm in the middle of actually selling off some guns, something I haven't done in a while. Stayed tuned for what I've been up to. :P You really capture the quality in great detail with your camera. I prefer the STI over that Wilson Combat, but that's just my opinion. Have a great weekend brother!
@@KSGunGuy01To me it's a win/win situation. I'm getting a dream gun and thinning out some guns I have multiples of. I don't like to sell, but in this instance I didn't hesitate. Have a great week brother!
Yeah 8 to 21, the DVC C is the same size as the StacC and has a double stack mag. I would have bought the StacC the first time I held it had it had a double stack mag.
@@tylerfecho4454 No doubt , I mean they say the only 2 downsides are the weight and capacity but the weight is right there with many EDC's maybe a few ounces more, but really the mag cap that's it and if they had a 2 plus mag bump that would be cool, imo.
@KSGunGuy Minor changes for the Staccato P in 2020 1.)Barrel length is 4.4 inches 2.)Easier take down the guide rod assembly has a built in spring loaded push lever. You push the guide rod forward, press in the lever which locks the compressed guide rod. You then pull the compressed guide rod out. 3.) The sleeve removes with the compressed guide rod assembly. 4.)Barrel is coated differently, it is not black but brushed chrome color. 5.) Comes with 1 17 round and 2 20 round magazines new black finish on magazines some shipped w/chrome depending on stock as it depletes on chrome. 6.) Stippling on grip has changed. Not sure what the finish colors are called but you get the idea......
This looks like a 2019 Staccato P. The 2020 Staccato P has a 4.4" barrel that is tapered in the front and doesn't have a full length picatinny rail. This looks identical to the new Staccato Heritage, less the DUO and X-serrations. The 4.15' P is very reliable and well balanced handgun. Great video!!!@@KSGunGuy01
The local range/gun shop has two competitive shooters, both shooting on Team Ruger: James McGinty and Dave Olhasso. James’ father owns the shop, and they’re both 1911 shooters. James ran STI’s until he was picked up by Ruger, and he and his father have a massive collection upscale 1911 pistols. Dave Olhasso does an extraordinary job with action tuning, and I’m lucky to know both of these guys. They run 1911’s with insanely light triggers, and I’m only interested in carry pistols. My Colts, Rugers, and S&W 1911’s all have 3.5-4.0 lb triggers, and I’m fine with that. I’ve been given the opportunity to shoot the McGinty’s Nighthawks, Cabots, Wilson Combats, etc, and I’m pretty happy with my $1,200 and under 1911’s. The Staccato’s polymer grip would mess with my OCD too much, and I’d have blend the polymer and steel with a file...lol! Thanks for sharing!
You’ve got some great friends with an impressive collection! I’d love to shoot some of those as well. As for the grip, it feels awesome and although looks odd, the eyes tend to get used to it. Thank you and cheers Frank!
I love the 2011 STI’s and want to get one. I’m actually good with the cost however, as a lefty if I spend that kind of money I want an ambidextrous mag release. I’ve actually been doing research to see who can add a ambidextrous mag release before I buy it. I’m leaning toward the DVC-P. Mitchell Custom Guns & Bulletsworks can install mag release for lefties.
I’ve never shot a 1911 chambered 9mm. Bet it shoots very nicely, although I am a died in the wool 45 APC guy when it comes to my 1911’s. Looks nice, love the grip.
I totally understand about 45, but this thing is truly an experience to shoot. I recommend giving one a try if you get the chance. Thank you and cheers DJ!
The beaver tail won’t print it’s the back corner of the grip. So for me a bobtail commander is very discreet iwb carry choice even here in the south. I wear button lightweight sport shirts with a galco summer series holster, printing is never an issue. Thanks for the video carry on.
Oh man I'm so Jelly!! Me want now lol. Sweet review but...... you didn't show the case that came with it. Is it the nylon type with the velcro secure straps? Idk if all STI's come like that? Thanks again for bringing this fine artwork to our attention!
Good call on the case. It’s the gray case with two compartments and zips close. Actually pretty nice and the gun is a beast! Thank you and cheers BloodySoup!
Both look great, but the X9 is beautiful. My dream pistol is a tie between the Atlas Hyperion and Lady Hawk by Korth. If only they weren't, but dreams.
As always, great review. Love your stuff. You are a natural. Hard to beat a Wilson Combat in a 1911. If you had to chose, would you pick this over the Wilson??
Bought my first STI last summer, it was the p. Now I own four of them.....a dvc 3, a C2, and the all new R. Everything else is for sale. Be warned, it is an addiction. Where are you located ksgunguy? I'm in Salina.
Have the c and the c2 and idk how people carry the c2 and the p, they're huge. Going back to just the staccato c. Would be nice if some company made a double stack mag that fit in the c because there's more than enough room in that grip for one
@@areyou0k98I'm not an authority on the STI or 1911's but the c2 is the double stack, yes? But you don't like it but want the c in a double stack? If I understand it right, the polymer / fiber frame is a large piece of the recoil absorption.... If they thinned down the material for a double stack in the original C, you'd have a much harder gun to control and would likely see a failure in the form of cracking.
@@timlepage4483 I have both the c and the c2. The c2 grip is big but the actually thickness of the plastic is very small, a few milimeters. The c grip has a bunch of unnecessary plastic on the inside of the grip that if filed down I firmly believe could fit a magazine like the double stack Makarov magazine where it's thin up top but thick down below for double stack. Unfortunately this only an idea and I don't have the tools or resources to try it.
A little bit late to the party on this video, but to respond to your question about the mag release since I didn't see it answered. I sent STI and email and asked about the ability to swap it over since I mainly shoot southpaw and it would be kind of important to have. They said there is a 3rd party addon you can get to swap it over to the other side.
I own the Staccato P and absolutely love it. But..... No gun is perfect. The mag release is gritty and small and for such a hefty gun it definitely kicks a little, unlike the edge. And yeah, it's not easy putting back together after break down.
whoa whoa WHOA. When did STI move to a more standard guide rod design?!?! Now we just need them to update the barrel to a modern lugless and linkless design. Boggles my mind why they still manufacture 1911s and 2011s with lugs and links.
I paid $1800 for mine with shipping! And it was worth every penny. Definitely my favorite hammer fired pistol and dead nuts accurate. Hey kS any idea diameter size of the fiber optic? I prefer green and want to switch mine out as well. Thanks
Beauty of a handgun! Made right here in the great state of Texas! I'd love to do a factory tour there sometime. Anothet awesome review brother! And I'm all caught up! 👊💥
I shot both. Recoil can be easily controlled on both. Grip at EDC X9 is AMAZING... I' rather spend $2,800 for EDC X9 than $1,999 for STACCATO P :-).... however my budget gave me only option to use Rock Island TAC Ultra FS HC (shots almost like Staccato P).
It's easy to take apart when it's a 9mm. But with a 45 it's a different story. The heavier spring rate I think 18 1/2 pounds requires the use of the tool. Or just get a tooless guide rod from Dawson..
@@AlaskanBallistics Good point. Like everyone else, I grew up with 1911's and still have one chambered in .38 super. But these 2011's are just a bit too pricey for my pockets. And when I say "a bit," what I really mean is WAY too pricey.
Great video, a little out of my price range though! I did notice that every time you dropped the hammer down into the uncocked position, you did not have to press the grip safety in. It is only 6 ounces lighter than my SA LB Operator .45 ACP. Thats not that much lighter IMO.
This gun may be a bit too large and heavy for concealed carry. Not saying it's bad, but I still haven't found anything better than a Glock for this role.
Fantastic pistol, no way in hell would I carry it, not for that price tag. That means for me it would be a range gun and if its a range gun I want the full size slide.
Great review, but don't understand why you didn't like the smaller, lighter Staccato C? I see the P as competition/range only. I think Harry made the right choice...much more reliable and easier to EDC.
Your guess is as good as mine on that Mean. I really thought the C would be the right one, but sometimes we get taken by surprise. Thank you and cheers brother!
@@tarassmith2325 I buy that well hold on, lol, let me rephrase that, gun companies know that if they keep making them we will keep buying them and I wouldn't doubt there best customers are the ones who have multiple guns already, I heard one gunner say if I buy the full size I have to have the compact one also. I do that but with tooth paste - I get the big full sized tube but then I grab the travel size, feel me ? lol take care
the problem i have with these top shelf carry guns is that if you have to use them wont the police conficate them? ive heard a lot about dudes never getting their guns back
Having been involved in a active duty shooting or two, I can attest for a fact that you do get your weapon back once you have been cleared by a grand jury (In Ohio) of any wrongdoing
@@plank3000 I think some of the problem comes from the gun owners not following up on their cases. Anytime the police take an item from you they are required to give you a impound/inventory receipt. If that item is lost while in their possession, they have to replace it. People just need to stay current with their cases and claim their property as soon as the case concludes. And yes, the property rooms can and will lose items from time to time.
Troy Stevens Misplace, or lose things.....yeah. Three things that have a propensity for getting lost from Evidence are Guns, Money, and Drugs. Theft has always been an issue with property in evidence. But 99% of departments will keep it quiet, if they find out stuff is missing. A popular way to make guns disappear legitimately is to get destruction orders from the court. But they don’t actually get destroyed. Because nobody was watching the watchers. I’ve heard the stories from other officers. That’s how I know.
Every gun magazine has cover pictures of the latest Wilson pistols. But other great manufacturers like STI, Ed Brown and Les Baer are ignored. Wilson makes great guns that are unaffordable for many readers. Magazines should cover other high end pistol not just Wilson and Nighthawk.
Congrats to those who can carry a 2011. Aside from wearing a full on winter jacket, I think it's way too big. Try the Staccato C for a more reasonably comfortable carry gun.
The only item a left handed shooter needs is an ambisafety. Right handed shooters need the mag release placed on the right side so they no longer need to break their grip to reload.
I know that. Using the trigger finger works just fine. I see many right handed shooters, especially ladies, who cannot easily operate the magazine release. They end up either rotating the gun or rotating their hand to reach it. Place it on the right side to run with the trigger finger and the problems go away. Some shooters will save a bit of time on their reloads if they are going against the clock. If they can reach it with their thumb, then either side is fine.
I cant understand why people cut those grooves into the side of the beaver tail, to reduce 0.000001 of a ounce. Shit kills the base of my thumb for literally no reason.
Take if from me carrying a .45 can be a pain. Dont get me wrong if I'm carrying a sidearm while hunting hogs .45 all day ( or night ) but 9mm or 9mmm just makes more sense.
