Once you get over $2k you might as well go to $3k and get away from polymer anything! Plus you can tell that Wilson went high-end on all materials and detailing. Great comparison video. THANK YOU!
The EDC X9 is bulletproof - no pun intended :) From my experience and tons of research the WC seems like it will be more consistent long term. My oh so awesome Fiancée picked me up an all black X9 for my birthday and have put 10,000+ rounds with no jams from cheap to great Ammo. A real testament to Wilson’s quality.
This Wilson X9 should really be compared to the Staccato C2. I would love to see that comparison. Also, you can add a mag well to the C2, making it a very tight holding gun, depending on your hand size.
I purchased my X9 today and put 200 rounds through it and I have fallen in love with it. Mine must have the medium grip as I would not want it smaller and I chose the one without the rail as I do not put a light on a gun that I might carry. Another plus for me with the X9 is that I don't care for grip safeties. Thanks for another great review.
Just once I wish someone would do a full IDPA Match with both guns in parallel and THEN tell me which one they like better. Way too many of these videos are just unboxings or range plinking. What i want to see is how well you can wear it comfortably under clothing, get it out from concealment, acquire a grip on a fast draw, shoot at different distances, drop mags, reload, etc. and still shoot accurately and quickly while under some stress. Also good to do it outside, as the lighting conditions vary (sun reflecting off the slides or sights, etc.)
I'm an IDPA master class shooter and I've run both. They are both really fine pistols and I ran the STI faster, the heavier weight helps a lot with recoil control and i prefer a larger grip when running a gun fast.. That said the real thing is the size of these two. If you want just a competition gun its the STI. If you want a carry gun its the WC. If you want one to do both its the WC. Me personally i didn't like the sites on either, i would swap them but i'm picky with that so dont take that to heart. I just felt the STI was too bulky for concealed carry, and the grip itself would hang up on shirts while the WC didn't. To me the choice between these two simply comes down to your use needs. If youre rich get both ;)
@@hillbilly_delux78 Very detailed report. Thank you very much for posting that comparison. Have you tried the two newer pistols from both Wilson and STI? The Wilson Combat EDC X9S looks perfect for carry but would probably be a little hard to run fast due to the grip size. Then you have the newest from STI which is the Staccato C2 pistol. It is smaller than the Staccato P, more like the size of the EDC X9, and they have changed the grip texture so as not to snag. They call it the Gen 2 grip. I agree with you that if you can you should get both. I have the Staccato C2, and I just ordered the EDC X9 but haven't received it yet. I am looking forward to comparing the two. I think I should probably get the EDC X9S for carry though.
@@TheFittedRockStar Well I wish I had mine, but it is still on order. So I can't answer that truthfully yet. But I think it is going to be a great pistol, or else I wouldn't have ordered one. I love the STI Staccato C2, and I can't wait to get the EDC X9 so I can compare the two pistols.
I couldn’t help it. I think you have ALL of the Wilson mags! Thanks again for the amazing loaner Harry. I’ll be sending it back... maybe. Cheers brother!
I purchased this weapon a little less than a year ago . I have small hands I order mine with a small grip and a short trigger and it fits my hands perfectly and has made me a much better shooter 500 rounds at the range leaves a 3'' hole in center mass hats off to Mr. Wilson . It is my everyday carry gun with no issues whatsoever 3000 rounds not one failure.
Honestly, the X9 is probably the best factory 2011 out there. Not because it’s the softest shooting but because it’s actually a signifikant redesign compared to the 1911. Most 2011s are just thick 1911s while the X9 took a more sophisticated approach.
I've owned numerous STI's and Wilson Combat pistols. Both are quality manufacturers and you will do well with either. I've not shot a Staccato, but I have to assume their grip profile is the same as all other 2011's. In my opinion they are a little chunky for CCW work. I've carried professionally for 20 years and for a carry pistol, the ergonomics, weight, reliability, and accuracy of the WC EDCX9 can't be beat. Sure there are pistols which can compete in any single category, but not as a whole package. I picked mine up pre-loved for 2k which negates the price difference. WC's customer service is top notch. Apples to Apples, if I could only have one, it would be the EDC X9.
Update...I just picked up a Staccato C2 Duo limited with the threaded barrel. Shot it today and here are my observarions. It is super accurate. I prefer the grip of the wilson, and wish the Staccato would offer a bobbed frame. Both are very accurate, but the abilito to add a RDS is a huge advantage for the Staccato. I've also been waiting for a threaded barrel option for the edc X9, but Wilson has not come through. I shot the Staccato unsuppressed and suppressed and it was 99.9% reliable (one hiccup while suppressed). I love both guns, but if I had to pick one for the rest of my life, I think I'd lean toward the Staccato. The ergos of the EDC are superrior, but the ability to run a suppressor and RDS pushes the Staccato over the edge.
I went back and forth between the Staccato C2 duo & the Wilson combat experior, in the end I saved myself 1k and went with the C2...after shooting it WOW absolutely amazing and I am loving it 500 rounds of all kinds of different 9mm with no problems including HSTs in 124 & 147no issues....and yes it begs to be shot fast 😁
I’ve had a C2 duo for about a year and yes it is an amazing gun. I’ve put at least 3k rounds through it without a single malfunction. It’s a work of art.
Superb video and presentation “as always!” I love the Staccato P. If I did not already own an X9 I would certainly purchase one because they are a great firearm as well! To respond to a few things you mentioned in the video: that IS the smallest grip WC makes for the X9, and it was equipped with the long aluminum trigger. Of course you can get a medium and small trigger, but there is only a LARGE backstrap (easily swappable) available in addition to the small one which you had installed. Also, though it was not on the model you had (nor mine), the X9 is now available with a magwell which does increase the purchase on the grip even more. $85 option from WC. I look forward to your next video “as always!”
Thank you Jason! Good to hear more about the customization. You’re correct on the grip and trigger reach. I’d still prefer it to be just a bit smaller but I shoot a lot of single stack and subcompacts so there may be a bias. That’s awesome about the Magwell and I’d love to see that add on at some point. Cheers!
I've never been a huge 1911 fan, not to say I dislike them. I have always preferred a double stack magazine and that is why I am so impressed with the STI's and other 2011 type pistols. I think you picked the better pistol, and I cannot wait to get my hands on an STI. Congrats on that super delicious pistol, and have a great weekend brother!
KS, Great vid. I watched all 3 videos on these guns, been debating both for almost a year, I finally decided to go with the STI, waiting on my order through Dawson Precision. Thank you for all the great info.
I have the Staccato C2 pistol, and I have just ordered the Wilson Combat EDC X9. So in a couple of months I should be able to make a comparison of the two.
Ben Stambaugh no I haven’t received it yet. In fact the last time I checked with Wilson they couldn’t even tell me when they would start building my EDC X9, due to a shortage of material caused by the Covid virus
Staccato P H.O.S.T (optic ready) is still below cost of the X9. Both great guns and excellent decision on "if I could only have just one", also my choice. Once again, another spectacular vid KS!
I appreciate your videos. Always seem to be informative and fun. I think on this one though, you kinda skipped over one very important factor, and that is concealability. The sti is designed as a low cost(relative to other options) 2011 race gun (slightly shorter than the typical 3gun types but point still stands). The edc x9 is designed specifically as a concealed carry gun....thus, no mag well, rounded portion on back lower end of grip for less print, and designed to be stone cold reliable (like...glock reliable but without all the downsides of a glock). If your looking for a range or competition gun, the sti is a clear winner. If your looking for a daily concealed carry gun, the edc x9 is arguably the best gun on the market. Comparing the 2 without making this point is a bit like a comparison between a 1wood, and a 3 iron with the conclusion that the 1wood is better because the ball flew further 🤣. I think it’s a testament to the x9 that it can simultaneously hang with the sti in the sti’s wheelhouse, wile still being stone cold reliable, and concealable. Thanks for posting the vid. Looking forward to the next. Edit: x9 mags can be had for 35 bucks(18 round extended), and 31 for 15 rounders @bigdaddyunlimited, sti mags are almost 3 times as much. Worth considering when comparing prices and your intended use ( you’ll need about 6 21 round mags for practical shooting/3 gun)
My Girl got me a EDCX9L custom built with the Magwell. Took about 9 months to receive since I ordered it at the peak of covid. Every gun store or people I meet at the range always tell me that Wilson Combat is on a whole different level above staccato
@Daniel Brice The only part that is polymer is the grip and trigger. I thought about this too. After side by side comparisons, for the money, I still chose STI. And I am a very picky OCD person when it comes to things like this. Just go try it out, and shoot it. I think you may change your mind. Also, this is the same grip they use on higher-priced race guns such as Atlas guns which run $5k - $6k. This grip is also incredible in that you can replace it with aluminum or metal grip if you want to spend an extra $600 and another $100 or so for the aluminum trigger. That is what Nighthawk and other companies have on their guns. An Aluminum grip. But I still think in this particular case, the Polymer is very well done and strong and probably won't see chip marks over time and the exposed metal from scratches like the NightHawk and other guns that use aluminum or metal handles.
I have the X9; it's an awesome pistol. It is essentially the size of the Glock 19 and a lot of time and research went into making it just as reliable. Hence, a 1911 style option for ccw for those who can afford it. This size pistol is the largest I personally will carry. The STI being both larger and heavier would relegate it to home defense for me. If it had been available when I purchased the X9 I may have decided on it, and went back to my G19 for carry, simply because of the price difference. Still one could get the X9 and use it for every purchase. FYI. not one issue with mine so far and find it to be a great shooter.
That’s awesome Scott! I do agree that the size of the Wilson makes it more palatable for carry. That said, the STI is a ton of fun to shoot. Thank you and cheers!
I got lucky and ran into a shop that had both Wilson X9S, X9, X9L and Staccato P Duo, C2. The also "rent" these guns. I was pretty amazed at that. Rent a $3k Wilson? I was shocked, and who can say no to this. Anyway, when all said and done, I walked out with the Staccato P Duo (Red Dot, Rail, MagWell), The MagWell changes this gun in a big way, whereas with the Wilson, it didn't make much difference. Both awesome guns, they shoot awesome, but if you are presented with all of them to choose, it is a hard choice. Can't go wrong with any of these guns.
The Wilson design is fundamentally different than the 2011. It’s why the reliability and longevity without the need to change springs and adjust the ejector, etc? are better Internals are very different.
I have that same staccato p and the experior compact double stack with the magwell. In my opinion the build quality is better with the Wilson except the finish and the staccato shoots better, less recoil and better tracking.
Thank you for great reviews! I carry my EDC x9s in both 3.5” and 4” all the time. I have a number of 2011’s and I prefer the reliability and ergonomics of the WCB
Great video I totally agree with you STI all the way. When the EDC X9 came out several years ago I ordered one but had to cancel the order it was a good thing because I found the STI once I put it in my hands and pulled the trigger I was sold. About six months ago I was in a gun store that sells the EDC X9 I couldn't wait to hold it I"m so glad I did it was terrible, fat grip, very uncomfortable for my small hands, Both are quality guns but the STI wins in my book.
You can option night sights on the Wilson on the build sheet and there's also guns on Gunbroker that do have night sights on them. With the Staccato, you're stuck with fiber optic only.
Well, I did it, I think I've changed my mind. I picked up a Staccato C2 DPO Limited and man is it a shooter! I prefer the grip on the EDCX9, but honestly the Staccato is sweet. I'm going to have to do a head to head range day, but ultimately the ability to add a dot, light (the EDC is non-rail) and ability to have a threaded barrel is what wins for the Staccato.
Have both, be a very tough choice. Probably go with the EDC but just because I love the sights. If I changed the Ps sight it really wouldn’t matter witch one I kept
You need to get your hands on the Staccato C2 pistol to compare with the EDC X9 now. They are more alike in size anyway. I would also like to see a review on the new Wilson Combat EDC X9S if you can get your hands on that pistol.
I would love to carry one of these guns, but they're out of my price range. I'm saving for the Henry sides loader Carbine chambered in 44 Magnum whenever it comes out. I'm guessing that ridiculous thing is probably going to retail for 11 hundred. Excellent video as usual. 🔫
I gave myself one for my 65 birthday. Had been looking for years at Wilson's. Only regret is that I waited so long. Don't have mega $$$ but that $3 was worth it. Only gun I pick up for EDC and IDPA.
Can't disagree with someone's opinion! I prefer the Wilson due to the grip length advantage for Conceal Carry. I would like to "thin-it-out" with a narrower grip, since I have medium size hands. $1,000 price diference? That can push the Stacotto to many people. They are both outta' my price range! Best to ya',,,,!
Great review, I went with the STI. I bust the budget going $2k, any higher I would need to get a 4th job. Also great tips on better shooting with the STI. Thanks KS.
Great review. I have not had a chance to shoot the Staccato P yet but I love my EDC X9. I do think comparing the X9 to the Staccato C would be more of an apples to apples comparison given the fact that the C is marketed as their carry gun like the X9 (I think most people would agree that the P is just a little big for everyday carry). The back straps are offered in a small or a large size and it looks like you have the small one on that pistol. It also looks like you have the large trigger so you could go down to a medium or a small. As an FYI - Wilson just came out with 18 round magazines (for the EDC X9L 5" version) that works in this pistol. Also, you can get the magwell that come on the EDC X9L retro fitted to this pistol. In addition, you can now get an RMR slide cut for this pistol which Wilson calls their True Zero Optic System. Keep up the good work.
Although I agree that the Wilson is more carryable, Ive seen the Staccato P successfully carried appendix, though it’s not for me. As for the newer changes to the Wilson, I’d love to see the magwell. Good to hear about the 18 rounders, though I think Harry has plenty, lol. Thank you and cheers!
Bought the X9, lots of stove pipes and failure to go into battery. Sent it back to Wilson to get fixed.... wondering if I should have picked up the Staccato P instead? :”( X9 is finicky with ammo. Wilson recommends higher grain ammo so it will cycle. Mine won’t even take 115gr. It cough’s and chokes on it. 126gr is even iffy. FYI I was using Winchester 126gr. When I tried 115gr., It was Sig’s 365 ammo
I didn’t know anything about the Wilson until this video . Very nice . I really like the staccato it’s just a really cool gun . And the name is bad ass .
Hi KSGG, not many videos on the Staccato P. I have the funds for the Staccato P 4.4 or the Staccato C2. I have the Wilson EDC X9S and Bul Viper and the C2 would be a bit bigger and the P would be more in size with my Shadow2 and Stock3. I have Sneaky Pete holsters that will mount to my wheelchair, so weight isn't an issue. With that background, which way would you go?
If from the same part of kc! My dad is a Leawood cop and I’m about to be a kck cop I go to center fire all the time!! I’m looking to get the Wilson if you see this and know a dealer please let me know!! Love the channel!
Nice review KS "as always". For me to make a decision on which one I would have to see them in person and hold them. Going by looks alone I sure like the looks of the Wilson the best. Great looking gandgun.
Have the Staccato P DUO and love the way it shoots. Just ordered the Wilson Combat EDC X9 today from Palmetto State Armory (in stock); should have it in a few days. Can’t wait to see how it compares.
I don't live in the US, unfortunately. Both pistols are very appealing to me, but I will go for a WC EDC X9 if I have to choose one. The benefit of STI S P is the flat front trigger guard, which is ergonomic for finger rest.
If you want the mag well version buy it that way. WC charges $200 to add a mag well to one that didn’t have it. Can’t just purchase one and do it yourself
WIlson has an accuracy guarantee of 1.5 inches at 25 yards, full custom shop and warranty for life regardless of owner. That set a lot! But buy what you shoot the best.
Much as I'd like to have either I went with a Springfield Range officer Champion Elite 9mm instead, IMO it's just as accurate and looks just as nice! I honestly looked into buying the Staccato C $1700 but couldn't find one in stock, So I just went with the RO Elite been wanting one for 3 yrs actually got lucky and bought the last one and for only $749 brand new!! Normally $800-$900+... so ordered another Sig 229 elite..2 great pistols for the price of one Staccato c.. lol
EDC X9 is much better! You get what you pay for with Wilson Combat. I shot the Staccato P quite a bit but went with the Wilson. Very easy decision for me. I just ordered my second Wilson, I'll see it in about 4 months since it's a custom build. Also, with a 1911 and the EDC X9, you are supposed to use your support hand thumb to release the slide not your strong hand thumb.
The Wilson Combat EDC X9 in this video has Sterling Silver grip medallions, not Pewter as stated. Also, The EDC X9 does not come in different frames sizes. There's only one frame, but the back strap is changeable, you can get a small or large back strap. The back strap in the video is size small.
Seems to me, the ED9 would be the better choice for CCW, and the STI the better choice for duty and competitions. Other than the $, there's nothing not to like about the Wilson but the ergos. I found them awful and for my small-ish hands, terrible. Maybe, as you mention multiple times, if they made a small version, might change that. I have not shot the STI, but I'm assuming from the looks of it, same issue? Honestly, as someone who CCWd a full size 1911 for over a decade before going to polymer pistols, unless one simply wants a 9mm based on the 1911, I choose say a HK VP9 all day over either those guns and spend all that left over $ on ammo and mags ;)
Either can be used for range use but the Wilson is more concealable and would make a good carry gun. I don't see much point to a defensive handgun if it's not readily concealable.
I own a nighthawk double stack rmr and I've had 2 Wilson EDCX9s having magazine compatability with my nighthawk would be very nice. Wilson is better for hiding though
Both seem sweet but a polymer trigger on a 1911 just screams "wrong" to me. EDC X9 is my unicorn 9mm. I'd sell any 4 of my 9mms for one (cept maybe my CZ tac sport) but they're not available in CA.
KSGunGuy, thanks for this comparison. The Wilson looks stunning and I have no doubt about it's quality. I checked it out at a LGS along side the Staccato P. I just couldn't justify the extra $1K for the Wilson EDC X9. The Staccato value and reputation and your review however made it a much easier choice. I put my money on the Staccato
I carried the X9 for about 7 months and currently carry the Staccato P. The only issue I have with is the X9 is I don't like the way the bobtail grip feels in my hand. I spent 7 months trying to get used to it and then deal with it. In the end, I sold the X9 for a traditional 1911. Picked up the Staccato P about two months ago and it's my first "2011". While I still prefer a traditional 1911 grip, the Staccato P works well and I'm happier with it than with the X9.
Right on Allan! Although I like the bobtail, I understand where you are coming from. Glad you like the Staccato P. It’s an awesome shooter. Thank you and cheers!
If I could ever have enough extra cash, I would buy the Wilson Combat hands down. When i worked for a gunsmith in the past, I dream't of building a gun like this gun as my dream gun. What they did that I never thought of, was removing the grip safety. Dopes not matter one way or the other, but it does look better without it. The STI is too large for a carry gun. $3000 is HUGE for any gun, but this is one I would buy if I had that much money.
@@KSGunGuy01 Hey KSGunGuy Yes it's a bunch of money. I bought a Wilson EDC X9 when I retired 3000 + tax a Galco Speed Paddle holster , a box of premium ammo. I walked out of the shop in a daze of delight and I'm still delighted and now I don't regret spending the money. Because I earned it. I just can't wait to get an invite to a barbaque.
