No. It's already too congested with freight and Brightline inter-city. Local (intra-city) rail needs their own tracks.

They can sell the trains to Europe!

Atually financially, its a sound decision. It allows them to sell more seats on the profitable leg. Imagine if you had a train that ran from Brussels to Paris but you couldn't sell 50% of the seats because the local Paris stops used up all the seats

Since more than half their income comes from the ORL-MIA leg and they were actually forced to leave money on the table because the WPB-MIA leg was using up seats (meaning the ORL leg on those trains could only go as far as WPB) there were only two choices - continue leaving funds on the table, or figure out a way to open more seats. Since the remaining cars won't be delivered until 2025 the local seats have to be discourasged.

Imagine if the LIRR couldn't sell you a ticket into the city because the last leg seats are all used up

A google search for 'brightline government funding' will enlighten you. Multimillion-dollar net losses and lawsuits . They will never pay back any grants the people will be stuck funding this for years to come.

And yet the problem is the locsls kept selling out the seats which blocked the more profitable lomg distance seats. Around 20-30% of seats run empty from Orlando not because no one wanted them. Its because the WPB-MIA leg took them all. So technically Orlando was "sold out" because of the inability to sell seats ll the way through

Only if people stop booking Orl-Mia. The Wpb-Mia leg was taking so many seats, the Orl-Mia legs would show sold out, even though there were empty seats from Orl-Wpb. The solution is to reduce demand for the local legs to open up seats for the longer (and more profitable) Orlando leg.

They'd probably be thrilled at zero local commuters as it opens up seats for the much more profitable Orlando leg. As it sits, trains have to leave seats empty from Orlando because the Wpb-Mia leg took them. The only current solution is to reduce local demand to open up more profitable long distance seats. They're more than happy to leave the local seats to TriRail
