I love this band my favourite punk band of all time I loved the pistols, the clash and many others but this band I adored I was born in Newtownards in 1963 outside of Belfast whilst my dad served with the British army in N Ireland I think that’s were I get my inspiration to love this band, never saw them live but I wish I did xx
My family served with the Irish Republican Army since the 1920s...They fought the British colonial invaders and Planter settlers at every opportunity, right across Ireland...Partition will end...Up The Republic Éire32.
Love the stiffs…first saw them in Belfast when I was 13…in the late 80’s..got my nose broke by a punk pogo’n to Alternative Ulster…what a badge of honour!!!! Belfast’s favourite sons!! Thanks boys for keeping us all sane back in the day!!! Mickey D!!!xx
I was only 12 years old when my two older brothers took me to see SLF(go for it tour)we met the band backstage they were letting several fans in for a bit ! WOW ! Thanks Kevin Rip.🕉♊️☪☯☮
I was around 10ish when my dad would play SLF amongst other punk records ( most Fri & Sat's nights) YT is great for reliving your childhood. Cannot punk pogo for long nowadays. in my teens we'd be at it all night long. Blast from the past.
Tin soldiers You sign away your name No chance for cash or fame You never see the truth You sign away your youth You go and join the queue Do what they want you to They take away your name They treat you all the same Sign away you life Great song and lyrics that mean something
I quit school and joined the army in 1981 when I just turned 17. This band was a huge reason why. I was in the Infantry in Europe and listened to this band all the time. Awesome band!
+Cailean Moore Mate I went to see them a couple of years back in Newcastle and Jake Burns stopped the set because a beer landed near his foot, threatened to walk off stage the lot if it happened again, then proceeded to bore the arse off the entire audience by talking about his Japanese peace Lily he keeps in his New York apartment between songs.... If the band didn't blow the roof off (Superb show), the Cunt would of been thrown off the Tyne Bridge. Whats worse, selling out and doing country life butter adverts or being a boring Bastard?
"early" Clash are one of the most truly seminal not only punk bands but just bands. 💥💥💥💥 These guys, well I suppose I should say Joe in particular of course but, THEY TOOK IN ALL THE HORRORS OF THE WORLD WITH EYES AS WELL AS HEARTS WIDE OPEN! NEVER FLINCHING NEVER FAILING TO TELL THE TRUTH! I could wax on poetic or cry my eyes out just thinking of it..... They're like ombudsman of the world for All mankind. (More like a priest truly but that's my perspective 🤫) EYES, HEARTS, MINDS, ALL WERE WIDE OPEN! 🥺 THE COURAGE AND STRENGTH REQUIRED FOR SUCH A FEAT IS TRULY HEROIC! The fact that they were able to make a shake our asses while telling us the hardest truth, well it just doesn't get any better greater or higher than that. "SOMEBODY GOT MURDERED" "STRAIGHT TO HELL BOY" and even less obviously poignant songs like "Clampdown", and, YES "ALL LOST IN THE SUPERMARKET" ( ( "I wasn't born so much as I fell out no one really seemed to notice me / we had a hedge back home in the suburbs over which I never could see"🥺💔) You know it is said that an artist's job is to hold a mirror up to society.... To life to mankind... I think the power that they did this with to hold this mirror up to all of mankind and to all of society but at the same time to an individual who is hearing a stranger speak the truest and deepest words from their own heart; well again it just doesn't get better than that! On its way I would consider them as I say true priests here on Earth. I mean as a priest would have the duty of speaking the highest truth and truly reconnecting one to what one considers God which of course is always deeply a part of oneself...... A part of all of life. I've probably already written too much and I'm sure nobody's even going to read it but, art is important and then if it more so than music. 💯💥💥💥🙏🏽 P.S.- "somebody got murdered" was the first class song I ever heard without knowing it, and I was completely haunted by it for years and years. 🥺💔 Still am and always will be, as I think anyone should. If anyone's reading this, please don't let this world harden your heart! It is heartbreaking, but let it break your heart open! That's how we will heal each other and the world I promise you! 🙏🏽Namaste
@sidsings000 in the given context emo only came into existence in about 2000. emo was only thought of as additional genre label to some punk bands, not a seperate genre. ergo being emo wouldn't have stopped you being punk at te same time. which means that either green day were both or they were punk, thus proving me right and the original comment wrong
I minded with song, meant for its time, to think of all the youngsters throughout the world that are conned into fighting for causes that politicians and tribal leaders seem to think are important.
He joined up to get a job and show he wasn't scared Swapped boy scout hat for army cap He thought he'd be prepared At the age of seventeen, he was forced to choose At the age of twenty-one, he's in Catch-22, all right! He joined up for just three years, it seemed a small amount But they didn't tell him that The first two didn't count At the age of seventeen how was he to know That at the age of twenty-one he'd still have one to go? Tin soldier He signed away his name Tin soldier No chance for cash or fame Tin soldier Now he knows the truth Tin soldier He signed away his youth He joined up 'cause Dad knew best to do right by his son And now he hates and counts the dates That mark time on square one At the age of seventeen he did as he was told Now at the age of twenty-one tin still won't turn to gold Tin soldier He signed away his name Tin soldier No chance for cash or fame Tin soldier Now he knows the truth Tin soldier He signed away his youth If at the age of seventeen you fall in line too soon Then at the age of twenty-one you'll still march to their tune Hup, two, three, four Hup, two, three, four Hup, two, three, four Hup, two, three, four Tin soldiers, you signed away your name Tin soldiers, no chance for cash or fame Tin soldiers, now you know the truth Tin soldiers, you sign away your youth Tin soldiers, you go and join the queue Tin soldiers, do what they want you to Tin soldiers, they take away your name Tin soldiers, they treat you all the same Sign away your life Sign away your life
IT WASN'T ME WHO WROTE "These guys ripped off Green Day"!!!!!!!! I was telling the guy how wrong he was because of various reasons including how Stiff Little Fingers were a band 12 years before Green Day therefore 'SoothsayerYT' (The person who wrote that comment) is wrong! Read what I say next time!
