Can’t believe they didn’t go electric on the power steering… it’s so easy and make sense 100%

Its a giveaway car so they probably are staying a little more basic

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a chassis from the roadster shop or anyone who makes them ?

I thought the frames on this era Monte Carlos had the same frame as the grand prix. The grand prix from 69-72 has a fully boxed frame.

Haven't worked on a 70 Monte in particular (that I can remember) but I've worked on a lot of "A-body" cars of that vintage and the frames all had that open C-channel in the middle. They ran the brake and fuel lines through them, bolted the trans crossmember to the bottom/inside of the C-channel, etc. I can't recall any of them being fully boxed in those areas from the factory.

@grandmasmalibu on the regular a-body cars that is true. The grand prix (69-72) had a boxed frame very similar to the convertible, I'm sure the Monte Carlo is the same.

Why make the frame so heavy? it has a bad effect on acceleration

Benefits outweigh the weight. Probably less than 2 hundred pounds. The rest of the body will use lighter parts overall.
