I like how the "demons" at the end are your disappointed parents. "WHY AREN'T YOU MARRIED YET?" "EXPLAIN THESE GRADES" "WHY CAN'T YOU BE MORE LIKE YOUR BROTHER?" Scariest thing to the Japanese, apparently, tiger parents.
Btw, in case anyone wondering what the thing at 26:44 was, there is a folklore(asian, possibly japanese) where a guy looks into a peephole(I think it was into a haunted house but I'm not sure) and only see red, this is because the eyes of ghosts are red(I forgot if its their iris red or eyes red and no iris but you get my point), and the ghosts are looking into the peephole the same time as the guy, so he can only see the red of the ghost's eye, pretty sure this is referencing that exact folklore.
I learned about so many cool indie games because of you man, love these atmospheric videos with no annoying talking. Wish the best for you, happy holidays!
Somusz159 I guess PewDiePie horror style is over. I swear to god, most you tubers who still doing face cam and screaming to little to nothing, has the fakest reaction ever. Like shaking in game cameras and screaming simultaneously, it’s just fucking annoying.
Herbert West They may have the scariest folklore but it’s very stale, imo. They’re all end up the same, a ghost / demon kills that person, it’s not interesting, you know. But I guess I enjoy Japanese folklore because it’s very scary.
PS1 styled graphics is becoming more and more popular i think. but somehow it looks way more realistic than the games using photorealistic graphics, probably because it looks like an old camera which we already often see them in old videos about captured ghosts on cam, mysteries, etc.
Dude, Japanese horror games are the best horror games out there. Most of them share the same aesthetic, love that. It can really keep you up at night...
I liked this lonely ambientation, without soundtrack, just tipical city noises, darkness, some domestic creatures and all the vibration that create a sensation of something bad will be happen. ☁🌙☁ 🏤🏡🏢🏨😨🏠👻🏧🏩🏡
I really like how if you pray for all the shrines the kami kind of have mercy on you. Like "ah, you're a good kid. Y'know what? You get to go home. Just this once"
This game looks gorgeous so far. Giving me puppet combo vibes immediately. Appreciate these vids a lot. Thank you. Happy holidays to you and everyone watching
I have visual snow. All the film grain is more or less how I see at night. Guess I live in a cursed world. Actually that'd be pretty cool apart from being haunted.
Ayy I have visual snow too! It's pretty cool meeting another person with it. Do you get tinnitus by chance? Also don't mean to revel in shared suffering, just like...seeing a commentator with the same "eye" disease feels less lonely.
@@WizardIllustrator Its cool. I do actually. But I have to be in a proper quiet space or really tired to notice it. I'd argue the snow is similar. Its just been there ever since I remember myself so its a lot like breathing. I wont notice it until its mentioned.
@@broslavsk2787 how long have you had it? I think I'm 6 years with it. It freaked me out when I first saw visual snow. I literally thought I was crazy lol
wylser Yeah. Good horror need no jumpscare or do it smartly. Not just jumpscare everywhere, that’s bad horror game / movie, it’s not scary, it’s annoying
Oh god, the convenience store's plot is sooo creepy 😨 i cant help keeping all lights on at night and as best as i can, not do cooking after 6 when it starts getting dark outside... 😰 it still chills me every time it crosses my mind 🥶
You know when you're *certain* there's going to be a jump scare, and are confident when it's going to be, and it still startles the hell out of you? Yeah.
So Sayaka is the only one to remember him for one reason or another. ( Perhaps she was in love with him? ) However it looks like both he and his mother got taken by the yokai. Then it started fading even from her. ( The memory of the guy who got demoned away. ) This of course being the "good" ending. ( You need to prey at all of the alters and so forth. ) The bad end is a crappy jumpscare ( one that relies on volume. Even with a headset it did not bother me but I guess I am desensitized from all the horror stuff I tend to watch/read/ect. ) and Sayaka also gets demoned away. Do like the graphics of it. Too bad the mirrors do not show Sayaka when she is in front of it. ( I realize this is a small project but it is something that bothers me with some games to not have a reflection. ) Also sorry for my English. I am really not feeling well at the moment so I might not be using the right words right now. ( Its not my first language. )
@@giob5883 Well they did reflect the environment, and I bet whatever engine was used wouldn't have a problem with reflecting a character either. I think it's OK to not have a character model for the player and leave things to imagination, but the prominently featured mirror makes things a bit jarring. Otherwise the environments are really good in this game.
Even though I didn't see their faces clearly, the sound alone sent me chill all over, not to mention the tension built up by the ambiance. Fantastic work!
the loud ending sound really freaked me the fuck out like wow i almost felt like i'm gonna hurl. goddammit i wasn't smart enough to mute the video first before watching.
Stigmatized property is actually a thing in Japan, and wow this game is really good, the atmosphere is perfect, too bad the player's reflection once again does not appear in the mirror.
Damn, I wish somebody could make a PS1/2 stylized horror game similiar to Amnesia/Penumbra with more than 3-4 hours of gameplay. Santa plz make it happen.
Soooooo, she decides to leave after walking around like crazy collecting some sheets of paper, and finding out that the last one is a menacing message... xDD 27:46 maybe the first guy disappearing was a signal of that god she prayed to (twice), or the second one, or that ghost at the end of the street X'D if this girl dies its all her fault...
I like how the steps don't synch up with the soeed at which you ascend stairs. It's like you took three giant steps while silently bunnyhopping up the stairs on your other leg.
4:57 A cheap glamorously interior decked apartment? On the first day of April 4? The day this entry was written while living alone? Oh god... Too good to be true... If anyone don't know, April 4 is a bad sign... in Japan the number '4' is a symbol of bad luck for it sounding like the word "death" in Japanese. And it's double 4s... since April is the 4th month 'n all... so the guy moved to his new home on the unluckiest of days. an apartment with a cursed history. yikes!
Depressed Squid this is just a Japanese superstition that they believe, I'm just sharing what I know. also, whether it affects you or not is dependent on whether you believe in it or not. there are karmic events that happen to certain unfortunate ppl without probable explanation, not in cases like yours where you end up homeless but in death thru unnatural causes and random occurrences that give birth to these superstitions. like ppl dying on a 13th floor. bad omens occurring in certain dates, etc.
So the people who rented this place will vanish into thin air? The guy must have vanished in the toilet, which explains why the toilet was locked from the inside
I am not sure but I think to get the "Saved" ending you need to find all shrines and pray in front of them. And the story is pretty much: -You get invited to a apartment of your friend or crush idk exactly -House empty, you find a journal -You collect the torn pages of the journal and some other paper -Turns out the apartment is haunted and the residents disappear without a trace after a week. Also every person that knew the resident completely forget him. No one can stop this evil power. When the current residents are still alive they are haunted by thoughts "to bring another person". This also explains the real reason why Sayaka (i think this the main character name) was invited. You can alao read that the haunting can affect others - priest dying, mother of the previous resident becoming ill... etc. -In the end Sayaka realises it and decides to escape. Now - if you prayed to every shrine you will get good ending - Sayaka gets protected by some supernatural power and manages to leave. Sadly, she is still affected by the haunting apartment and like the others she quickly forgets her friend that just got wiped out from existence. However, if you didn't prayed to enough shrines you are getting closed in the house by the ghosts and then going the same route as your friend - you are wiped out from existence.
Protag's childhood friend and crush: New h.. HELP SAVE ME I CAN'T ESCAPE THIS MAY BE THE LAST TIME I WRITE PLEASE GOD SAVE ME I CANT ESCAPE AND THEYRE GOING T Protag, yawning: well im going home now
That was terrifying... and I don’t scare easily. Sometimes silence, atmosphere and build up is what really does it. Not jump scares (hint hint American horror directors who still haven’t got it!!)
I actually like horror games where the setting is in a rural area. The film grain also adds to that effectiveness Edit: Goddamn I need to relearn what a rural area looks like. Got myself confused.
Does anyone know of any tutorials for these digicam type visuals, or even what this effect is called? The lighting looks incredible, and all the visual noise smooths everything out so nicely.
Brain: Close Your Eyes Brain for the rest of the game: Keep then closed! Brain at the end: Died. Wow this game is amazing!! Asthetically in love! Totally new style of graphics for the survival horror genre.
8:27 Someone need to contact the Foundation.... 22:16 This lass got a nerve of steel...unless shes already possessed.... Fun...trivia... Stigmatized Property means a property where death happen in the property (suicide, murder) Theres a company that specialized in selling or renting these properties. Theres also people who like to stay or rent these properties since they are mighty cheap. After a customer stay in such property, the stigma is considered disappear and the property can be sold or rent at market price again. Theres a youtube video about it.
