You have an amazing talent to describe and teach us you tube viewers. Just completed 3 chainsaw repairs on my saws because of your great Chanel. Thanks for your help.
@@marriedwithsmallengines I would let you check out my saws if I couldn't do this myself. Great channel and really building up some fabulous views. Hope you guys have a nice Spring!
I’ve had mine almost 40 years (1984) and it’s the best chainsaw I’ve ever had! It’s been the mainstay on the property but sadly I’m a bit long in the tooth to start it now. Compression is like it was when new! Modern saws are not made as well as this old classic!. Clean your filters people and the saw will last!
I have my dad's O45 AV Electronic. Probably from the late 70's. Original bar. It has never been repaired. It starts and runs like the day it was new. It hauls ass. I love the sound of this saw and the performance. Back before the California Air Resource Board started choking the life out of everything with an IC engine.
She also explains the why and her thought process during troubleshooting. I’m a software dev and she’d be great at troubleshooting complex computer systems as well. Excellent skills
650 views the first hour means you have something special going on, for running a channel about small engine fixes. Very impressive, and of course another well done fix!
This video game me deja vu vibes big time. My father was a Stihl dealer in WA state, and I bought an 034 Super (later renamed 036) during the summer of '89. Cut, split, & stacked several cords that summer. Worst decision I ever made was selling that saw when I went away to college.
After market coil--extra wire adds value to your saw!!!!!!!!!!!! You keep the great repair-troubleshooting videos going!!!!!!!!!!! 42 year Cat mechanic here--collect-run and work on saws for fun-- your process for repair and detective work is Top Notch in my Book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today is the beginning of a public holiday weekend in the UK. I didn't know I'd be spending some of it watching chain saws being mended. These are great videos. Thanks so much for letting us see you at work.
Excellent closeup shots! Your shots of the fuel pump filter, piston via exhaust port and spark plug boot spring were very clear and sharp. I enjoyed your troubleshooting methodology because it covers the three essential things for combustion..... compression, fuel and ignition. You are indeed a good teacher. Enjoyable video.
OK this is now my favourite channel. I enjoy the methodical way in which you diagnose the faults and your explanations. I feel I know a lot more about the pressure/vac tests from watching you and will endeavour to get one for working on my old saws. The close-up footage is a great addition!
Excellent work! Thorougly inspected, tested and defects repaired. Good call changing carb fuel pump and metering gaskets. I am a retired aircraft mechanic and I always preach about a good thorough inspection of equipment, parts before tearing things down, this can give you great information to assist in the repair. Keep up the great repairs, enjoy catching a video when time permits. Love the Ontario sunset--beautiful 💯💥👍💪
Hi, you're the most professional in-depth small engine repair mechanic I've ever seen on RU-vid. The procedure you follow is very professional and thougher, if you didn't live in Canada, you would have my 040 Stihl to sort out, but the UK is too far for shipping. Great videos.
I must say you are an excellent diagnostician and your repair work is of excellent quality. I am also impressed with the build quality of Stihl chain saws. Your diagnostic work truly shines. You can track down the cause of the saw's issue quickly and you do the repair to a very high standard. Well done.
My 036 is 32 years old and still works good and it’s seen a lot of use. Just maintenance and no repairs so far. Quite a thorough diagnosis on that 034. Shows what an experienced mechanic can do.
great video for beginners that really don't now what there doing its very important to get a video out like this so people who are repairing there own saws can learn from this, awesome, i miss the older saws. i like how you break it down so some who doesn't no what there doing or stuck with a idle problem or saw not running you covered all the bases on how to do your repair right great video , thanks you for this, top notch
Thank you so much for clearing up the pronunciation! I have been saying "steal"my whole life, but since watching quite a few of your videos I was beginning to believe "still"!😄😄
My 36 year old farm boss is still running like a champ, changed fuel, oil lines, had a clogged oiler the breather fell off without telling me and I’ve rebuilt the carb once or twice, It fires up easily best $239 I ever spent in 1988 so your explicit methodical troubleshooting is most helpful for self taught individuals like myself
Thank You for sharing your valuable time and resources to bring us your super informative, thorough, and detailed maintainence / repair videos. I really love the peaceful Sunrise and Sunset views on your video presentations. The camera closeups and clarity of your videos are perfect. The video editing is top-notch. Wishing you and yours long life, excellent health and prosperity. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good video! I really like the step by step and showing exactly what you do. Some of the steps may seem a little repetitive to some, but for me it reminds me not to skip steps lol. I have a 034 and a couple of very early, no chain break 31's that I picked up for about 10$ apiece. Be a while before I get to them though, got about 20 husky and other stihls ahead of them. Working on a husky 65 and a stihl 056 right now lol
He there Bruce here. Well it is nice to see you using a coat hanger for a fuel line retreaval tool. Thanks for showing up on Saturday with Ken. I know you are busy. Thanks. Stihl 034 great saw. Nice work
Does your husband look after the mowers they are a big job in themselves we do rideons and mowers as well great video awesome dialogue so much pearls of wisdom that you gleaned over the years that you are sharing with us thats pretty special You are a natural teacher and do an awesome job good to see people who love there work and being professional in what they do thats awesome Wouldnt hesitate recommending your site
Really like your channel.I work on a few saws and string trimmers and everyone seems to chastise me for taking too long to fix there equipment, but I feel that all the testing I do is necessary.Otherwise you always have dougt in your mind.I like your method.Keep up the good work.
Have an MS250 that wouldn't start for me cutting firewood 2 years ago...saw your video about missing that first pop on choke and then flooding. I was thinking maybe the coil was done. Pulled it out today...payed special attention to the first pop, and got it started after about 5 pulls. Thank you!
Love the channel! Looks like the cracked fuel line was letting the crude in and luckily, the screen filter in the carb did its job. I'm fairly new to the Stihl family. I've been a husky guy most of my life and still am, but our snowmobile club decided that the saw for the snow cat should be a Stihl. So, that's what we have. I'm tuning in for tips on how to keep it running and you are doing a wonderful job!
I really perked up when I saw this video title, having owned a Stihl 034 Super since 1990! Great saw has been a dandy, definitely better than what's allowed on the market these days. Time to tune it up for some property clearing & tree maintenance, making use of my newly found confidence from your training. TY much appreciated, ma'am.
Another good video! I learn a lot here - thank you. I also watch your fellow countryman donyboy73, and Taryl Fixes All (Indiana). I dont own a gas chainsaw - I have an almost 40 year old McCulloch plug in chainsaw that still works great. I also have a 1995 Craftsman lawn tractor (bought new in 1995, restored during the pandemic in 2020), 2005 Toro 1128OXE snowblower, and 2008ish (bought used in 2015) Stihl BR420 leaf blower. I do all my own maintenance and repair. Paul (in MA USA - about 30 mi west of Boston)
I have pretty much the same saw, my saw is a stihl 034 super. Only problem on saw was broken pull cord. I decided on saw, because of powerhead weight. Went w/24" Sthil bar, that I replaced w/Sughi Hara light bar 4 years ago. I am a stihl believer. Very Good Video, Thank You
Please list all your tools you use for repairs or lay them all out and do a video on them. (I know, that's extra work, but it would be helpful for new owners/repair techs) I really like how you are chill with everything. Maybe cause you're up north in Canada? 😀
I would like to second that motion for tool video. Also I like that you show the part numbers on the packages, but don't be so fast to flash it into the camera. Some may want to write down the pn#'s for reference. Thanks again for great and helpful videos.
Stumbled across your channel in my recommended. The most thorough and detailed repair videos I have come across. A true professional in your field. Owner definitely takes care of his saws, as I do mine. That coil lead would send my ocd trough the roof though...lol. Subscribed.
For a 30 year old saw, sounds so crisp...out of interest are you originally from Canada ?, I only ask as some of your pronunciations such as the word OUT sound non Canadian...if that makes sense...as always another informative video
Very Very Impressed With Your Attention Too Detail Your Very Thorough And I Like The Canadian Accent Of Saying “Still” Don’t Change It Say It How You Say It 😊😀 That Saw. is Perfection Now The Owner Better Watch Out He Might Not Know How To Control It 😀 Night Sunset In Ontario Is Really Nice
4/17/24..hey their Married w/Small E...hello from New Orleans area. Just watched your very methodical, super well lite ( medical operating room?), clean/well organized bench top, great clear EZ to understand English with very articulate, methodical (medical-like) exam of this little E...with carb issues. Yes this was kinda slow going but absolutely worth the time as you educated all viewers not only on all the small parts but also on your professional & factory authorized exact fitting tools...like that 'Z' Gage which confirms height of valve movement (jet/spring/'y' hook) & pivot axel assembly...! Wow! Then your close-up camera lenses !! ...how else could we viewers see that microscopic 'slime' blocking fluid flow through that 'last' filter screen!...Ah yes...this video was kinda slow going but worth the time to see how the pro, Married to Small E.., does indepth analysis & repair...thr-right-way ! A+ video! ..I am not a pro, everyday chainsaw user, but use my Echo W.E. many times a month, chsin saw 2-3x /year; am on my 3rd or 4th W.E.machine & have had several carb/dirt/dealer-shop repairs🔧 & have learned to just buy $$ a new carb ~$60 & self install & carry on. So watching this video was 'triggering' my memory (am 78 years & going strong) why it was just faster for me to$$ & get-back-to-work! Much enjoyed & appreciate your shop, explinations, video lighting/editing, pro tools & perfect results! 👍👍👍✅️🍺😊
Greetings from Finland 😊 we seem to have same timing with spring arriving to us. You have any finnish guys in your area? Quite many lumberjacks moved to Canada in the past. Very nice job with your videos and systematic repair work, big thanks!
Press Fluid OH 723. Fancy schmancy! I asked my dealer for some once he said just use oil lol! Looks like you are an OEM Stihl gal right down to the clothing!
Thanks for taking us along for another great repair video Erica. You do very good work and you have good chainsaw cutting technique. I cringe sometimes watching people cut with a saw😄😄
As I mentioned in the video, deeper carburetor diagnostics will be their own video(s). I could just keep taking and my videos would turn into 5 hour productions! :)
@marriedwithsmallengines How did you know that it needed a new check valve as you didn't include it in the video? I've never replaced one of these and didn't even know you could so I've learnt something new today. 😀
I am glad that your plan included sharpening and hopefully depth gague lowering, it was making mostly fine dust and cutting way slow. I was wondering if you checked the bar oiling and any rubber parts there of (if any).
I currently have three O34AV's (one is an O34AV Super) They are timeless, they still perform well for how old they are, still very good horsepower to weight ratio.
About 10 years back a hunting buddy and I were driving down a dirt road in the Mendocino National Forest when he spotted a Stihl 034 abandoned by the side of the road. Apparently somebody got pissed off at it for not running right and threw it away. It was well used but the only thing I could spot that was wrong with it was that muffler had come apart. New Stihl mufflers weren't available from the local dealer so I got a used one off eBay. I cleaned it up and put a carb kit, new filters and a plug in it. Also installed a new bar, chain and sprocket. My buddy has it to this day and says its the best saw he's ever owned.
I have an 038 that I bought here in Ontario in 1989, made in West Germany. I did not know there are summer and winter air filters, mine is winter and I replaced it last year. Most parts are still original
I got my uncle’s 038 magnum 2 after he passed away a couple years ago. It’s all original with a full wrap handle on it and it says made in west Germany too, great saw. Have it in at walkers right now getting the exhaust worked on .
Great save on this one. I look forward to your videos of testing the one way valves in these carburetors. Question for you what is press fluid? Something special or just a light machine oil. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
I just used one of these for a week or so, borrowed from my dad while my 260 was in shop. Harder to start than the 260 though. My 260 has the same symptom of this saw, won't idle but runs great otherwise. Shop didn't fix it and the plug they installed just seemed to not work.
When the 034 came out they came w/o a cylinder gasket. Compression like crazy! Stlhl later put out a SB on the problem which was the addition of a cylinder gasket.
Great video, thanks! Just bought one these the other day and getting to know it. Had a look at the cylinder and piston through exhaust and spark plug hole. Looks ok. Pretty clean looking saw for its age. I have the original bill of sale from 8/18/01. Any Ideas where this vintage 034 was made?
