Bought an 041av about 40 years ago from my boss at the time , cut a ton of wood and with a 36" bar cut a ton of ice trapping minnows and digging bugs . It served me well till it finally croaked. Daily use for over 10 years. God knows how old it was . I use it at work before I bought it .
My grandfather used a 056 mag 2 & a homelite 925xl in production work back when those saws were new to the game & would tell me the 051 was the 064 & the 056 was 066 in its time.
Nice! Just picked up a 056 for 85$, needs rope, gas cap, air filter cover, dogs and who knows what else lol. Said "it ran when it was put in the barn" we'll see. Good video!
Just finished building a 056 magnum it runs great with lots of pull. I have started on another one but i am going to machine the cylinder and port it, excited to see the gains. They are great saws that were built heavy, nice video with the vintage muscle!
Way cool just subscribed, this evening I took a long drive and was lucky to pick up a 051av for 150 and it came with two long bars one on the saw, I can't wait to see if i can get it up and running like yours, i got to say it's a heavy beast just from picking it up, fun city
I'd have a smile on my face all day long running those saws! Two killer saws! They both sound great, I'd take either one...but I really like that 056!!
I know OEM parts are getting harder to find as far a cylinders and pistons.Bearings shouldn’t be an issue to find. Glad to hear your keeping another classic alive! Love it!
Their really two totally different saws in a bunch of ways. The 056 is 87cc with a 54mm bore and a 38mm stroke. The 051 is 89cc with a 52mm bore and a 42mm stroke. Although close In displacement the 051 has more pulling torque due to the longer stroke. The 056 is significantly lighter than the 051. I’ve felled some with the 056 and a 32” bar and it works well. I’ve always considered the 051 to be more of a stumper or milling saw it’s just so grunty! No matter how you compare them they are both great old saws that both have proven reliable to me. They are also tons of fun to run!
