It’s taken A LOT of gas to do so, but i think it’s finally broken in. Seems to be a new saw the last few times I’ve run it and I’m definitely liking it a lot more!
I've been having the same issue with standing dead elm at my place. About half of it's punky. Much like you did, I cut it, split some, and then throw most of it out. Hard to justify the time, even for me, that I'm just producing heat for myself.
The thing about ash is it may be shitty in one spot but then a vast majority might still be worth bucking down. One thing is for sure, if you get some of the good it's killer firewood, makes good heat and splits sooo nice. I'll buck it down and whatever part of it still looks solid take it.
Leaving downed trees is good for wildlife habit and the tree eventually rots and returns to the soil. Not a total loss, but getting as much lumber and firewood out of good downed trees is always the better option.

I am in SE Ohio and our ash is mostly too punky to cut anymore. When it hits the ground, it just explodes. It makes me sick. That used to be my favorite all around firewood. That wood will still be good to burn if you can store it where it is dry. I burn a lot of what is left in my fireplace. I have a metal roofed shelter house to store it under and it never gets wet.
I’d say they started dying here in 2017-2018. In 2021 is when a ton of these fell down and at the time it was all still good wood. Thanks for watching Brian 👍
probly some of that ash might be good those pieces that look differnt i call that the funcky ash its hard to burn also for me good ash splits easy by hand if its that funky ash its hard to split and stringy

Hi, had an issue with my Easton made ultra today.. the d-dent in the valve wasn’t working properly all the time. I now notice scars on the top of my cylinder. Any issue with your ultra?

The tires wore out quick on hard surfaces and I ended up having a flat tire. I think it was more suited to staying in my yard instead of going way out in the woods over and over again. Ultimately to keep it going I needed to switch to 4 18x10 atv style tires and wheels opposed to the 8 wheel barrow tires it came with. It was going to cost an additional 410$ so I decided to just return it and looking for somthing else.
Do you know what to look for on ash trees to tell if they have the bore? To get them before it’s too late. The trick is to get them when the top is still leafing. Not when they are dead. They are very dangerous when dead like you said.
@@765Guys look for lil holes pecked in the bark of the trunk the size of your pinky. Or small cracks vertically in the bark on the trunk 4-6 inches long. If they have either they got the bore.
ash is junk?? UM...... Ive cut up lots of Standing Dead ash trees up here in NH and its mostly fantastic wood. Splits awesome looks awesome And good to burn same Year you cut it down...Im not sure what you think is JUNK but you should stick to selling eggs or vegetables and leave wood to someone else. Ash is junk lol.. Just because you decide to buck up a big ash log thats on the ground and then complain about it being punky or soft or starting to rot thats your issue.. I would try some ash laying on the ground But MOST of the time the standing dead ash trees up here in NH are GOLD. Hardly ever are they JUNK... I cut down a 80 foot 30 inch ash last weekend and its stacked in the persons garage ready for winter. That tree was almost a cord of wood. When you say ash is Junk you should like a city boy.
Yes, the wood that I cut was on the ground, and punky, that was 100% of the issue. Glad you have good ash to cut, better get it done before it ends up like this stuff. I’ve cut great looking ash, but unfortunately there’s more around here that’s like this. Maybe I should stick to eggs and vegetables though, do city boys do that?

I’m betting the ash borer bit your area after it hit 765’s area! Not all Ash trees are at the same stage in all areas. Where I’m at all our ash trees are still alive. None of us are experts here!!
Darn Bud, sorry to hear that trailer didn't workout for you. You were working the heck out of that thing, and I thought that it was going to be a great long-term tool for you. But at least it sounds like you were able to get your money back?
