Hats off to you guys! An extremely dangerous job requiring knowledge, skill, strength and balls of steel. I learn so much watching, thanks for taking the time to show the saw and your skill. God Bless and be safe!
@@jeffmartinez8720 sorry to hear that. My grandpa has a tumor that took his hearing and he lost most of his balance as a result, otherwise I have no doubt he'd still be falling Timber as well. He tells me how much he misses it every time I see him
I'm rebuilding all my old MS660's with 56mm pistons...so far they're shredding. Good job man. Looks like where I live in Nevada City area of California.
Right on. I still have my first 660 that I broke in falling with. I'd like to restore it this year just for sentimental value. This is around McCloud CA
The new Egan filter should be pretty decent. He resigned it to fit under the stock cover with air all around. I definitely like having the upgraded suspension on the 500. It's convenient getting it from WCS but if you don't want to pay 50 dollars for it you can get the parts from a Stihl dealer for like 15ish
@@kodeebarber Awesome content...keep em comin'! I recently picked up a 500i and am interested in the WCS feller's suspension kit. You mentioned that I can purchase from the Stihl dealer. Do you have the part numbers?
Nice job bud I too cut trees for a living and that’s was rather nicely done, I’m not gunna say that you need this do that cause I hate when people who have no idea how to do what we do tell us how to do our work. Keep it up 👍 brother
Doesn't bother me at all haha people are all entitled to their and can say what they want don't affect me at all. Besides I always try to make sure they have something to bitch about hahah stay safe out there
Nice to see some green wood being cut. I've had waaaaaay more fire salvage over the last 10 years than green. Sucks. I've always run the West Coast Saws big dawgs on my 500 and I've cracked 2 clutch covers. Never liked those covers because a thrown chain would usually squeeze between the cover and the end of the crank forcing the bar nuts to be loosened or even removed to put the chain back on. I just put one of the beautiful milled billet WCS covers on but haven't thrown a chain yet. There is more space so a chain should be able to just be rolled back on. Now if someone would come up with a solution for the self destructing vibro-matic shrouds on these saws (661's too). What a joke. 3 days maximum and the plastic pins disintegrate. Do they even test these saws before they release them on the market?
Yeah every year it's more and more fire salvage. I'm not a fan of stihls stock dogs, I run aftermarket on all my saws. The 500 side cover is an absolute joke. Throw your chain more then once and the side cover is toast. I've only thrown it once with the WCS cover and theres plenty of room to slide the chain back on
And yes I agree the new top covers are garbage on the new saws. All the testing is in Germany where they run short bars. Not knocking them by any means they just don't have as hard of conditions as we do in western North America
Yes Stihl's biggest issue is they don't do Research and Development in North America.. So every time a new saw comes out it takes 2 years for more updates to fix all the Issue's that come up in NA
G’day Kodee, I enjoyed your commitment to dropping the tree, hence the master comment, lol then watched yourself Anton nd Cody fell the 7ft redwood, again skill set old school, hitting the initial mark, I’ve not dropped anything that large and couldn’t !!!, Love the videos mate
Break it in with a 28 and when the sound changes and you will notice a difference if you just put a barkbox on it will cut great that what my dealer told me I did that and he was right then I went bigger bar it cuts great hard wood
Well executed, interesting seeing the bore cut. i have to wear ear plugs and muffs for the 500i - certainly screams. 121 db nearly up there with a jet engine. Do you have the oil feed on factory setting?.
@@kodeebarber Ok thanks, if you ever find the time would be great to see a tutorial video on talking down the dowel pin to increase oil feed, doesnt seem to be much on YT and am sure many people are researching this. Was using my 36 inch bar slabbing up Iron bark in Australia, extremely dense wood, and is savage on the cutting teeth, find myself sharpening every 15 minutes 100 strokes on each tooth, and the bar gets extremely hot also. Thanks for taking the time to reply..
@@lumberjaxe8910 no problem. It's actually very easy to do. Just look at the oil adjuster and you can see the pin that limits it. I used a small punch but anything that's small enough to fit down there will work. Then take a hammer and very gently tap it into the case until you have an full travel with the adjustment. You can almost just push the pin in as well, it should go fairly easy
Saludos💪👎🏻
This video is from when it was still stock. This is what I had done to it. Exhaust opened up, added port on the muffler, bark box, max flow, and it's been ported and the base gasket deleted.
For a stock one for sure. Have heard of guys running 42s on hopped up ones. 36 is a little big for a stock one in tougher timber. It has a hard time in Doug fir but will chew through cedar and sugar pine pretty easy with a 36"
Hey fellas, I'm I'm Australia. I frequently run a 42' bar on my 500 and cut aussie hardwood. I have all the WCS accessories including the intake and exhaust but it's not ported. The WCS stuff adds a little extra power but the other day I cross cut a 40' stump with a 42' bar, full comp chain and an 8T sprocket. It tore through it. (I do run 98octane fuel, some say it adds power while some say it doesn't matter) Honestly boy I don't use my 066 anymore, I don't need to. 500s can turn big bars. I'm seeing more and more guys realising they can
@@vfoutlawwhat was the biggest bar you ever run on your 066? My old 066 cuts like a demon with a 36” but I bought a new Cannon 32” and I run that one mostly. Hello from British Columbia
Well done, not a single tail pulled out of the butt. Seeing a fan of 2 foot tails being pulled out of the butt of those huge western softwood always bugs the hell out of me.
You are pushing it with a 36 “ bar it is a only a 4.8 cubic inch are use the 32 but are used full skip chisel chain if you want to go and cut big timber you need at least 661 with a 36 inch bar
