The world's first saw without a carburetor is here. Meet the Stihl MS500i. The "i" stands for innovation and injection. The acceleration is extremely fast and the power to weight ratio is amazing. Just uncovered -75 or something Jonsered Raket RS52E. Bloody thing was unused roughly 30-40 years, jammed, but after oiling and moving things back and forth it started to loose up and even had spark from the get go. Recon i can get it running tomorrow, if i can find some gas hose and carbs membranes are not dead. It sure weights a ton, but seems to be reliable just like Stihl 029 that run on 3rd pull with old gas after sitting 5 years. I would like to see MS500i after sitting even a year unused. Probably cant even repair it due the damn fancy electronics failing after while.

New chainsaws have crap carbs on them and you are not legally allowed to adjust them after the completely break in after a year or so. Your old saw is a rare gem to have. Those of us who don't have an old one like you, need a fix for these new carbs saws.

@@Hellsong89 we also had a Jonsered 52 E in the past. It's a really heavy machine with 3 HP. Unfortunately a couple of things were broken, so we retired it. Now we use a Stihl 026, this is also a good saw, it's more powerful, but still lighter.

Echos exactly what the local saw shop guy says. Nobody who's working mountain cuts is biting, because if they quit there's no working on them remotely. I'm sticking with my older 038, 044 and 056 for that reason..they have a carb or ignition problem a half day from town, I'm usually able to patch 'em back together and keep going. I do like the idea of EFI for altitude, keep from having to guess jetting. I'd worry a bit about fuel, tho, as injected engines generally have less tolerance for contamination. Keeping perfectly clean fuel is tough in the woods, ask the guys running Tier IV equipment.

@@jayphillips4058 every pro I know has at least 3 different chainsaws handy at any given time. These things breakdown all the time, so they just pick up another powerhead and continue working. There job is to cut wood, not run small engine repair clinics out in the woods.
@jayphillips4058
@jayphillips4058 3 года назад
@@pinkhead6857890 If they're breaking down all the time, I can guess what problem #1 is. I carry 2 or 3 saws in the woods, too, but daily/weekly/monthly/use hrs., all get complete attention plus new wear parts. I don't see any reason to get critical of what a guy is familiar with, knows how to fix, can do on site if needed, and doesn't require more than basic tools. I run older equipment because I often help people who run newer equipment; the comfort and amenities are really nice, hoes, dozers etc., but when they quit running the repair bill/downtime costs are tough. I charge the same per hour with my paid-for dinosaurs, but take home probably twice as much.

"Ach du lieber, mein schatz"! When I used to live up in the Northwest Wisconsin backwoods, near Madge (Spooner too). My great loves were my Pioneer P25 (3.1 cu.in. ) & P50 (5.0 cu.in.) chainsaws. The P25 did most all of my cutting. But my P50, "the screamer", was used for the "big schtoof", especially red & white oaks (hard as granite!). I was in my mid 30s in those mid & later 1970s (I'm now 79). How I greatly miss those most wonderful years as a bachelor & strong as "a bull" (stinky as one too!)!!! Owned 120 acres all to myself & my nearest & only neighbor was a mile away! Got down to -60°s one winter! Always carried a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 magnum with me in the woods. I've had a very blessed life!!! I try to thank God for it all, in Christ Jesus!!!!! "Gesundheit" & put annudder birch log on the fire for me poleaze! Miss those most wunnerful smells of a wood fire! But the Lord has blessed me well for this rest of my life too, now living in the "civilized" far north central Illinois.

ROOM! fires right up but ive got all smog deleted (montana has ZERO emissions laws)..... and rebuilt the carb my self spent DAYS dialing it in but god damn does it run good...... only has ~35,000 miles on it, due to the fuel economy (which is mostly the full time 4 wheel drive....and aerodynamics like a brick)

When the electronic saws act like spoiled, temperamental teenage girls and need to go pout for no particular reason before you can start them again, and when it's more than just a rare and isolated incident, and you don't have the time to sit and chat about nothing until they 'feel better', the reliable old troopers from the 70's, 80's and others from before all the electronics are there for me, same as they always were. A little heavier, sure, because there's less plastic, but I don't care. I need a saw that always starts, and runs the way it's supposed to run, and that I can work on myself if it doesn't, which is pretty rare, without hours of driving down the hill to civilization to the saw shop, then another few hours returning a week or two later to another $200 or whatever repair bill...Suit yourselves, but no thanks.
