Egan straight shot runs the piston and and etc alot cooler then the WCS just started checking into them..still a big WCS fan..just the data don't lie. Rather have the cooler temps being where I'm from it's hot ASF and humidity is like 91% all the time

Those West Coast Saw NAM's (noisy ass muffler's) sure are loud but they do allow the saw to run cooler which seems to help on the 500's occasional hot start problems.

Yeah never a question as to my whereabouts on the mountain or if im working lol, hot start issue once and i pumped the bajesus out of the primer and it fired right up, must be a vapor lock scenario somewhere in there 🤷

When an engine is running under load and is burning near perfect sttiometric (sp?), the fresh fuel coming in is doing a lot of the cooling. Then you have the air being pushed by the cooling fins on the flywheel. When a feller fells, then shuts the saw down pretty quickly after a big felling cut, the whole top end can get heat-soaked. I do strongly recommend hitting the brake as soon as the bar clears the cut, ans leaving your saw running while you make your exit. The saw cools WAY faster while running after a ling, heavy cut like this one. Nice job making that full initial ring all the way around before getting deep into the felling cut. This is a great example for those newer to felling larger trees. Doing this makes it WAY easier to be very aware of where the bar tip is when your deep into the cut. That 500 is very impressive. It's been a while since Stihl has really upped their game with a saw that's another of their 'De Facto Standard" Pro saws. Great video! Big THUMBS UP!

in my neck of the woods you could tell the noobs from the wise old ones by how much unnecesary trigger goosing they did. this guy is a noob. Its kinda like one of those ninja kung fu movies where the Bruce Li guy is dancing around showing his ninja kung fu moves for half an hour yippin and yappin before he ever makes a move --then his opponent pulls out a pistol and shoots him between the eyes. or like the pimple faced teenager that sits there revving his car at the stoplight. We wise old ones we dont do that silly shit--no class. I point my saw at what i want cut and say COME OFFA THERE ( in my mind anyway) and I dont hit the trigger until I'm ready to touch wood. ALL SUAVE -LIKE ! think James Bond with a hot sharp saw. All that trigger goosing is just telling everyone you are a twitchy bastard. I never felt comfortable when a trigger happy faller was working next to my strip.

@johndunbar2393 Год назад
Good grief, are you gona be OK? Maybe he was warming his saw up, before laying into this tree. I do that and I'm not a "twitchy bastard". If someone revving their saw a few times sends you into that big of a tailspin, that you feel "uncomfortable", I'd say you need to focus on your own issues, instead of going after others, for non issues.

Twitchy on the trigger=character😆 flaw
@drewmayer7336
@drewmayer7336 Год назад
Haha well the center was pretty rotten and dusty and it was binding up the chain so all the revs were helping keep the chain movin smoothly and not bound up or bouncing off the rev limiter, i understand what you are saying and all and i dont burp it too much in the limbs but for this particular tree it was almost a must

@@drewmayer7336 Roger that! I worked with a saw mechanic who ran the WeyCo saw shop out of Wright City Ok. for many years. He was an old timer and had a lot of contact with Stihl engineering as that is what the company crews ran . He always maintained that bouncing the little two strokes around UNLOADED would take out the rod bearings and he meant unloaded as spinning the chain free of the wood. I have read this same caution in different veins where small two stroke engines are common. This master saw mechanic always maintained he could tell which fallers were as a twitchy on the trigger by how often their saw needed bottom end rebuilds compared to others on the same crew. Make no mistake I love the sound of a cranked up saw as much as anyone but I try to approach action in the bush with a calm , laser focus and treat my saw like a rifle , i stay off the trigger until I'm ready to shoot something. then again I have had to deal with saw that just refused to idle.....
@drewmayer7336
@drewmayer7336 Год назад
Ok i see what is you guys are saying now, i guess i like to play with this 500 throttle a lot more than i realized and watching the video yeah its a little annoying hahaha but you gotta understand this is a new saw of mine and i usually run a 36 on there so its rappin out hard and fast, when im moving it around on the stump i always like to gently apply pressure and give some revs to keep the chain a moving for the trace 🤷 but this does seem excessive now that im focused on it, no excuse
