The Battery Age is upon us, my friends. I LOVE the Stihl Kombi system and have been using it for years. Does the new electric KMA 135 work better than the gas powered KM 131? Let's do a Stihl Battery Kombisystem Review and find out! That's right, friends - ANOTHER TOOL REVIEW!
Is gas really more powerful than electric? How long is the run time for battery powered equipment? How much more does a professionsl electric powered system cost?
I'll compare the ease of use of Stihl's battery powered tool to the gas multi tool and compare the cost of the electric string trimmer as well.
In the video, I'm using Oregon Gator Line to test both units. Here's a link if you want to get some: amzn.to/3xKmv5N
If you want to blow your money on OTHER tools and stuff that I like, check out my Amazon Store:
amzn.to/4aJUeuF
I get a little kickback if you buy stuff from one of those links, so that's your full disclosure. A guy's gotta eat, right?

thank you for one of the best reviews on the differences. Personally, I just decided, I am going for the KM 131 R gas units just for cost reasons. .

I have just a relatively small lot as a home owner and purchased an FS56 gas Kombi with the trimmer and edger attachments, and absolutely love it. Easy to use, and easy to change.

Good video! My gas unit is a KM130R. My parents have a milwaukee string trimmer. The nice thing is, all milwaukee 18 volt batteries are compatible with all milwaukee 18 volt tools.

Best comparative vid I've seen on these. Timely too, as I'm just on the cusp of swapping out my petrol unit for battery. Here in the UK Stihl are offering a free spare battery if you get the rest. Makes it an easier decision. Cheers

The comparison cost doesn’t include how much it costs to charge the battery and how many months will the battery last for before you need to replace it? Good video
@stephenparchewski1998
@stephenparchewski1998 28 дней назад
That’s exactly it. After maybe 200-300 charges, your capacity will be down to maybe 75% of what it used to be. I have a KM130R. After 13 years of use, I had to replace my carb. That’s it. Way more cost effective going gas. People believe batteries last forever, but look at how fast your phone battery degrades.

I've had my Kombi system for almost 10 years now and I love the versatility of the heads. However, I find myself just not using it at all unless I absolutely need to because I don't want to deal with finding the gas can and filling up, then starting, etc. Considering getting the battery head so I use the heads more.

I reach for my battery powered Kombi every time as it is so much easier to get up and running. It’s also quieter… two AP500S batteries more than keep me busy all day at my age(70) … I run out of power before the batteries do 😅. I agree the cost is an issue but over the last year I have forgotten about it. Also I have a blower and another hedge trimmer that use the same battery so that is a help. Great video …thanks.

Its sound like the marketing department has gotten to you with their never ending adds telling us work is BAD and you HATE it so please buy this expensive solution to avoid pulling a rope for 20 seconds. Seriously, you need to put this into perspective, was using the gas powered unit THAT bad when that was the only choice or did it become work when electric machines were released?
@woodpecker80
@woodpecker80 3 дня назад
No… marketing didn’t get to me and I was never afraid to work hard. As I get older I like to make work life easier so I can continue to do the work I enjoy. The cost wasn’t a problem and I still have the kombi gas head but find it easier to stop and start more frequently. If I was starting out from zero now I would probably go Milwaukee as they have just two types of battery M12/M18.simpler still and have lots ofother power tools it suits. “If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.” 😅

@@petebusch9069 I don't mind pulling the cord, for me it's having fuel on hand. If I'm out, that's an hour trip to go get some more. However, I've been putting the batteries on the charger when I'm done, so they're ready for the next job. The ease of being able to refill is the major reason I'm using the battery head more.

Great comparison. I just bought the KMA120R with AP200 battery & AL301 charger, plus got a second battery thrown in for free. It all came in under £500 so I reckon a good deal.

I bought my first battery gardening tool last year, the Milwaukee M12 hatchet. I find it excellent. I currently use the Husqvarna 535LK combi, it's a fantastic machine but rather expensive. Recently I needed a brushcutter, looked at the prices of Husqvarna brushcutters, and was horrified by the increase in prices. With my experience with the Milwaukee M12 hatchet, I opted for the Milwaukee M18 brushcutter. It will get the crap kicked out of it next week, so I'll find out if it's up to the job or not! It's always a gamble with new equipment, I got it as kit for £575, the Husqvarna petrol equivalent was £800 with discount!

I don’t have that one but on hot and humid days mine cuts out when it gets wet. Not dunked in water but cutting wet grass. I like it cause it’s quiet. My gas one has more balls though.

I received an email from Stihl today. Free second battery. My KM130 is on the rev limiter with most attachments. For my connvience I have switched to the Motomix. I try to put a finger under the trigger but that gets old. I think the free battery is putting me into the electric age. If I didn't already have most of the attachment I would be getting Milwaukee. I already have lots of those batteries.

I have the 131 with handlebars. I have 11 acres of which 9 acres is woods with lots of thorn bushes. I might use it on 30 occasions (days) for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours. I doubt I go thru 3 gals of fuel. There is no way I could justify that electric 135. And will it run the blades that I use for cutting up to 4 inch trees down along with the tall grass, thorn bushes that grow like weeds and thick stalk woody weeds? I don't think so. I'll take the gas engines. And if anything goes wrong with that electric 135 I'll bet it will cost a lot more to repair. Thanks for the comparison Micah. But just like electric cars, I have no use for this electric trimmer.
@HomesteadBandwagon

Non serviceable batteries are the deal killer not being able to swap out one bad cell when it dies forcing you to buy a completely new battery while throwing out a 95% good battery. Tool batteries are smaller and cheaper making this much less of an issue, these giant batteries are huge money.
