How to clean and rebuild this carburetor, and replace the fuel filter on a Stihl BR550 backpack blower. This applies to most Stihl backpack blowers BR400, BR450, BR600, and others. You really don't need special tools, just patience.
Zama ZF-4 Fuel Filter: amzn.to/3IIyccT
Zama RB-134 Carburetor re-build kit: amzn.to/35e96oq
Stihl air filter # 4282 141 0300: amzn.to/3wHUE3n
Stihl fuel tank vent # 0000 350 5800: amzn.to/3Nq4cpJ
Stihl double fuel filter kit # 4282 007 3600 for BR600: amzn.to/3uExcSe

00:38 Remove back cover and recoil
01:40 Remove air cleaner and air box
02:40 Remove cables, fuel lines, throttle, and carburetor
04:09 Remove fuel tank, tank vent, and fuel filter
05:59 Replace fuel filter, tank vent , and fuel tank
08:22 Disassemble carburetor
11:13 Record HI-LO mix screw settings
13:56 Clean carburetor in ultrasonic cleaner
14:32 RB-134 Carb kit overview
15:28 Fabricate intake manifold gasket
16:18 Clean old manifold gasket surface
16:57 Clean carburetor gasket surfaces
18:29 Reassemble carburetor
25:32 Replace carburetor, fuel lines, throttle, and airbox
28:08 Replace air cleaner and cover, back cover, and recoil
30:13 The money shot
31:44 With apologies to Steve's Small Engine Saloon :)
The tools I like and use most often:
Magnetic spark plug socket set: amzn.to/3CzmpvO
Tachometer: amzn.to/3sHibiH
Vessel Megadora JIS screwdriver set: amzn.to/363RFqO
Channellock Bent Needle-nose pliers: amzn.to/3I5DbnA
Long 1/4 Quick-connect Torx Driver Bits: amzn.to/3HUNgnm
Spark Tester: amzn.to/3CxW2qi
OTC Leak-down Test Kit: amzn.to/3CyUhJn
Compression Tester: amzn.to/3IWd6sp
Wear your safety glasses, or you'll shoot your eye out. Try on some gloves. Take off that spark plug boot. Clean your room. Open the windows, those fumes are nasty. Just 'cause I do it, don't think it's the end all, be all solution. There's plenty more ideas out there, I can't take responsibility if you slice off a few fingers after watching my videos. And don't just pour that toxic stuff down the sewer or in the ditch, dispose of waste responsibly. Just be safe, OK?

I had someone at a shop work on it and I found some plastic wrapping in my fuel line when I was swapping out the carb. That could have been it, so I am saving my carb and rebuilding it. Great Stihl backpack blower carb tuning, cleaning and rebuild video. I appreciate that you showed all of the steps of disassembly and reassembly. Not criticizing, but I did notice at the end when you were hitting the throttle that you double pumped it and that it seemed to lag by a second or so. Possible valve tuning issue? Fouled ports? This is a phenominal video! I’m very impatient with a LOT of RU-vid videos due to the creator over explaining, mumbling, poor vantage points, etc. Your video was thorough, but not over explained, you included every step necessary, & the video quality & vantage points were essentially perfect. Depends on how many hours you have. Fuel filters are relatively cheap and easy to replace. Have you ever adjusted the valves? Typically that helps with hard starting, but if you have more than 100 hours or so, it can't hurt. Hi Stella, If you don’t mind me asking… Which carb rebuild kits do you use for the BR600/700 and also for the BR800? Thanks, Jim
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 5 месяцев назад
As I recall Jim, those blowers have ZAMA carbs on them, and finding parts online can be difficult if you are looking in the USA. I often end up online at DIY Spare Parts (a UK company that does have good exploded diagrams. I work my way backwards to get to the correct Zama carb kit. That said, I'm pretty sure that same RB-134 kit I link to in this video is the same for BR600/700. www.zamacorp.com/tclist.html?cnum=C1Q-S99 Pretty sure the BR800 is a different carb. Hope this helps.

@@TheLawnmowerLady Thanks Stella, My local dealer specified an RB-166 for the 600/700 but I have seen Google searches that specify RB-134. So, it is a bit confusing on which one is correct, I hate to buy something incorrect and have it collect dust.
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 5 месяцев назад
If your carb ends in 99A you need the 166 kit, if it ends in just 99, the 134 kit works. The difference is the metering diaphragm. Not sure what the difference is, but they do have different part numbers.

You're right, I tuned it a bit when the owner picked it up. That 3.5 turns was way too far. Thanks for watching!

Where can I order parts from . I can’t seem to find any place with diagrams and part numbers.

Stihl has the parts market pretty much locked to just their dealers in the US. I can find parts diagrams on UK websites, to get the part numbers, and sometimes can find them at places like repairclinic(dot)com. Hope this helps.

Let's see if you can be the one who can solve my riddle! No one else has. At the, approx 11:18 mark, under your left index finger you can see a light shining thru the side of the carb body half hidden by the spring for the choke lever. The light is coming from the now open chamber on the fuel side of carb. When I run my br600, fuel is spraying out of there!! I just did a carb kit rebuild and will test it tomorrow although I don't think it is the fix. Do you know why this happens?

Maybe is the accelerator pump on that carb is bad? (looks like this carb has one) I don't have a video on this topic, but my dear friend Tom @VintageEngineRepairs has a video on how to repair one here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fcJqZGZTFlU.htmlsi=-4wTrF1ynU5dEhKr I hope this helps.
