I like fixing small engines. Basic maintenance to advanced repair tutorials.
I started years ago working on antique motor scooters, Vespa, Lambretta. One thing led to another, friends and family asked my help on lawn mowers and small engine repairs. 15 years or so later...
My wish is I can empower you: the DIYer, the homeowner, yes - even all you gals out there to understand and even fix your own small engines. Even if you don't know what end of the screwdriver to hold, you can possess enough knowledge to ask the right questions when you do take your lawn equipment into another repair shop.
I feel this is so important, as we have become a throwaway society. Many USA manufacturers have gone overseas for production. Materials and craftsmanship are inferior than they were even ten years ago. If you take care of that older mower, it stays out of the landfill. That older one will outlast most any new mower from the big box stores today.
Just today I pulled out my old Tecumseh powered Toro. Probably 20 years old. Havent used it in months, but wanted to use it to chop up leaves. Put fresh gas in it, primed 5X, and it literally started on the first pull. Slight oil leak on left side near the base of the engine, leaked about a teaspoon after about an hour of hard use. Don't care, runs strong and is my ditch/leaf mower.
Absolutely needed to see this video and so glad I did! I just put a "scrap" br700 motor i got from stihl dealer that is closing onto my 600 frame and put my good carburetor from my 600 on and I was stuck without the feeler gauge. Only 5 minutes after watching this I was blowing my yard.
where I live it's illegal to not tie down any load that is in your tray, no matter how big or small, and so is having the lawnmower handle hanging over the side. Make sure you check your local laws before following this advice or you may end up being fined or shot by the police!
An HRN shouldn't be compared to an HRX which is an next level up. Honda didn't go cheap. The HRX line has a NeXite deck, ball bearing wheels that are also a little larger and a GCV200 engine. None of these features come on any HRN models. HRX models do cost considerably more for that reason. The commercial line costs are higher yet. For most homeowners use the HRN line is just fine.
Do you know what it might be if this doesn't fix it..Same motor on a pressure washer dies after you pull the pressure wasn't handle? It has manual choke not wax choke
This was informative in the worst way. Why would you tear it down and not replace the boot, I mean you were there...Then you reassemble the saw after all of the other work and play the "I never thought about that" game. The saw was boot away from running fine. Sorry Lawnmower Lady, I respect what you do but this was pathetically easy.
great tips! i always lift my Honda HRN216 myself to put it into my Chevy Colorado. it's kind of heavy, so the important thing is to pick it up balanced. To do that i grab under the deck just behind the front wheel with my left hand and grab as low as I can (above the hinge) on the right side handle with my right hand. So one hand is on the front behind the front left wheel one on the back behind the right rear wheel but on the smooth part of the handle. i bend my legs into a squat so as to not hurt my 65-year old back and just lift it up high enough to get both right wheels onto my tailgate. From there i can just work it in to my truck where i have a cargo bar to secure it. It's a lot easier to unload as I can tilt it to let the front wheels touch the ground first, then just lower the back to the ground. i always put the handle on the passenger side, but it would just be grabbing it the opposite way to have the handles on the driver's side.
What if I removed the air filter just to see if it's a breathing issue but I cleaned the spark arrestor and left all that off just to see how it runs still bogs down and shuts off, what else might it be it starts up and runs good for a few seconds then boggs down and shuts off. I also replaced the fuel lines and fuel filter and the fuel gasket and primer bulb. Any help is appreciated
Thanks for making this video. I’m trying to understand why when you do a pressure test with carb cleaner. If there is a leak somewhere the RPMs will drop? I was thinking they would increase
My father-in-law has this mower and had the same exact issue. I did some research and found this video. He took a paperclip and cleaned out those ports and his mower runs for more than 2 minutes now. THANK YOU!
My Husqvarna 128ld starts good, runs good but idles bad, even after adjusting the idling the mixture screws. It starts perfect on a cold start, it runs perfect at full throttle, but it's idling between 3800 and 4200 rpms. When I adjust the idle screw and L screw to the manufacturer idle speed (which is 2300-3200 and I try to keep between 2800 and 3200 rpms) it idles for about 15 seconds then shuts off. I have purchased three different carburetors, "New spark plug, replaced the fuel filter, fuel lines and air filter. I like to keep my lawn equipment in great running condition so if anyone could help me troubleshoot or diagnose this problem it would be highly appreciated.
