In this comparison Video I go over 2 of the preferred trimmers on the market. The ECHO SRM-3020 (30.5cc) and the Stihl FS 111R (31.4cc). Both of these units are very good and honestly its probably gonna come down to dealer support, comfort and features. Let me know in the comments below which do you prefer?

I’ve got all echo trimmers on my trailer - 1 SRM225, 2 2620’s and a 3020. My business partner that runs our other crew has all Stihl stuff. We’ve asked our employees and most prefer the Echo and they all say the 3020 is an absolute monster for ditches and overgrown properties. I’ve seen them pretty much race each other to grab it. We also run Darwin grips on all the trimmers and they make a ton of difference.
@SnifterRoux
@SnifterRoux Год назад
If you could only have 1 to use as an all rounder being 85% tidy edging around the yard and 15% light to medium brush, would it be a 2620 or a 3020? The 3020 is on special where I am for less than the 2620 1.36 : 1 gear ratio version)
@campoffthemap8307
@campoffthemap8307 Год назад
@@SnifterRoux Personally Id pick the 3020 (the non-t version). It’s nice to have that extra power when you get into thick stuff and I don’t think the weight really slows you down. If it’s only between the 2620 and the 3020t, I’d probably take the 2620. I haven’t been a fan of the t models.

Yeah I just bought echo trimmers last year. Haven't tried them yet. Out of season here in St.Louis. My stihl trimmers I have to pull more then my 2016 Redmax bcz260ts. I own 4 Stihl trimmers fs80, broke. Fs110r runs great burns alot of gas. 2015 Fs130 runs, 2014 Fs250 run sometimes. All of them got maybe 200hrs. My Redmax bcz260ts maybe 280hrs all I can say it runs great. My 2019 Echo hand held blower is what made me try them when my trimmers out of warranty. Runs great

I have a 111rx. I like it, it's lighter, it does seem to struggle with the higher stuff but I have a 240r to deal with that. 111rx still handles most overgrown stuff. It does have good fuel consumption. I love how Echo is easier on maintenance, but I would like a sparkpkug cover. I don't mind adjusting valves myself, but it is something to consider. My 111rx is fine for now for the weight vs power. 3020 will be something I consider in a couole of years if the Stihl gives out, thanks for the review.

Wow do you really get 2 year warranty on the Stihl ??? That's weird.... the dealers in South Miami FL are only giving 90 day warranty on the Stihl, a lot of landscapers are switching to echo because the Stihl weedeaters are coming out with problems straight out the show room. In South Miami the grass grows year around so these landscapers put tons of wear and tear into these machines. Stihl was king like 5 years ago, but now with this new model it's just been a big headache and the carb flooding issues and even bogging down. Landscapers take the guard off and run the string long and have no problem with the Echo, in contrast the Stihl's clutch spring would break often when running the string longer the supposed to. Echo > Stihl

@covertdestroyer 3 года назад
90 days is if it’s not for personal/home use. If it’s for personal/home use it comes with 2 and the day you purchase it you have the option to double it to 4 years. As a stihl dealer we don’t sell to many 111’s. We sell more 91’s and 131’s. The power to weigh ratio is better. I’m not the biggest fan of the 4-mix though.

My buddy had a sthil and its louder, burns gas quicker, and the head design takes longer to load and hold less string. He sold it and bought the 3020t. German design vs Japanese design. Good job Danny. The Echo may consume more fuel WHILE it is doing more work.. just saying. Im all in on the ECHO. what you did not mention is throttle modulation. I have the 111rx from stihl and feel that it is nothing or full speed not allowing finese near obstructions and thats in comparision with my ECHO 266T and 2620T and 266 raw. Ergonomics on the ECHO work best for me also. Now i would like to see you do a strapon challenge between the biggest strapon blowers from each. I just wish ECHO made a bigger hand held blower.

I find Echo engines extremely hard to pull start. The Echo 2060 has very inadequate compression release during pulling. It takes a very quick and sharp pull to get it started. If it doesn't start after one pull, the second pull becomes much harder because of the built-up pressure in the cylinder from the first pull. Pulling the Echo engine hurts my hand so much. In comparison to my Echo 2060, my Maruyama is a dream to pull start.

I have always been told to just go with the next one up 131 not the 111 its power to weight is so much more. You dont need to adjust the valves that much and when you do its very simple and you should do it yourself. Id only adjust it when it has issues if it runs great dont fuck with it its that simple. My 131 and br800 have a couple years on them and havent had to be touched fwiw. Stihl gets better fuel imo and the 131 still weighs less with more hp. Dealer support should be your first thing but if you do the stihl get the 131 or drop down to the 91 or 94, if you want a pure 2 stroke from stihl you will pay more but the 240 is your ticket :) 4mix vs 2 stroke the 2 stroke will always feather the throttle easier so if you cant do that well might stick with a pure 2 stroke, trying them out is the best way to see dont take my word for it.

I use my 94r Stihl quite often for my business in larger taller lots and it doesn’t struggle like your 111 did. And my 111r certainly doesn’t struggle in equal circumstances. I know right I have 55, 90 and the 130. 90r which is a little smaller than the 111 is almost too much power for regular stuff. I use the 90 in ditches and tall grass because the 130 will literally launch shit on to oncoming traffic at full throttle. Hell even the 55 kicks ass.

Shindaiwa/ Echo. My Shindaiwa equipment is over 20 years old. Purchased in 1998. They are finally showing signs of age. The fuel lines are rotting as is the pickup inside the tank. I’ve used and abused them. All have original air cleaner lol. They get a new spark plug once every ten years or so. The 230 trimmer is blue (anniversary edition) it has had a couple new string trimmer heads put on over the years, and the pole shaft has wallowed out so the head is sloppy. I have a blower, edger, power broom, trimmer all purchased around 1998. Although the power room is older I bought it from a tool rental years used. I have two Shindaiwa chainsaws that are a few years newer. All start on 2nd or 3rd pull and always first pull once warmed up. Best starting chain saws you can own. No ten pull BS here… I’d put them up against any orange machines twice their size. I won’t own anything else.

the stihl 4mix engine not only runs on less gas but completely burns all the fuel vs the echo which can have up to 30% bypass gas oil mix going into the atmosphere where the stihl is a complete burn...stihl has a foam outer elenent and a fiber second element...only difference is both filters are attached to each other vs seperate with the echo...the stihl has a lot more low end torque vs the echo needs to run in higher rpms for the same cutting force...

I may have missed it in the video, but were you using the line that came with the trimmers? If so, Stihl trimmer line is complete garbage. I'm assuming the Echo had black diamond on it. A curved shaft craftsman with Black Diamond will out trim most with junk line.

Good video. I have a KM130, which has a bigger engine than the Stihl in your video. One thing that I love about my KM130 is the torque that it has compared to a 2 stroke. For real thick grass, it really shines. I put between 75 and 100 hours on it per year. In 13 years, that’s a lot of hours. I adjusted the valves once, and they’ve stayed in spec after that. Otherwise, the only repair has been a carb replacement, so I can’t complain.

Valve adjustment takes only 7 minutes. I like two strokes as well. Sthil uses the four mix engines because of the epa regulations. Two stroke engines release more emissions. Both are good trimmers for sure. Both of them will be phased out with the electric models in the near future.

Wouldn't it be fairer if the 3020 was against the 131?
@deecee2837
@deecee2837 Месяц назад
The fs131 is in a different, higher price range (>$500). It is the same trimmer as the fs111, except for having slightly more power. It possibly equals the 3020, power-wise, but the 4-mix engine problems & maintenance requirements remain. Even lifelong Stihl fans, including me, lament them replacing their legendary 2-stroke models (such as the FS250) with these 4-mix engines. Even their over-priced replacement 2-strokers aren't as good - being heavier & less powerful in actual use. Hence, many professionals are moving away from modern Stihl trimmers. It's commonly blamed on EPA & EU regulations, but Echo (& others) seem to have adjusted to the stricter requirements more efficiently without the sacrifice of usable power, increased maintenance, & reliability.
@georgea2334
@georgea2334 3 года назад
Don't forget the Stihl requires you to use THEIR oil and requires much more maintenence. The Echo will cost less to operate overall. The Echo speed feed head is the best in the marketplace. Stihl is cheaper to purchase, but more expensive to own.

Took my equipment to the Stihl dealer. And it's actually cheaper to buy a new one. Kinda stupid because I don't want the new ones. The 2 mix engine are stupid. Also 5 year warranty.
