Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on RU-vid and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!

To start, I want to say this is my very first RU-vid comment ever. The reason I’m commenting is because this gentleman and scholar not only seems to be very well educated and informed on a Stihl chainsaw, but he also is a master at making an informative and easy to understand video on how repair something. I’ve actually watched several of your videos of you repairing a few different things and I just wanted to say THANK YOU SIR for taking the time to make these AWESOME videos for us to learn and maybe even make a video ourselves one day showing our skills. Again, this is my first RU-vid comment EVER!! You deserved my comment and I give you an A+ on your videos. Please keep em coming and never stop!

In general there are two or three types of "you tube comments" with many are not accomplished mechanics and pose difficulties due to smooth fluid use of words and writing but for the mechanic it is how to do it · 15 Pages of "Warnings" all of which are correctly worded but not once did I ever see "clean the spark arrest" and now with great effort found that is what the problem was … I get accused of poor wording posting style so the thing here is these machines are not "Wordsmiths" they are inanimate … developing efficient machinery ability is decades of work and being naturally interested

The tip about the oiler worm gear lining up with the notch is so valuable a bit o knowledge. I've watched other videos where they didn't know that,,, then had to retear down machine when no oil circulation. Good video.

thanks for taking the time to make this video ! real informative. I have read if you run the chain saw over some clean cardboard, you should see some oil drips, which indicates the oiler is flowing free.

Thanks so much for your clarity and focus upon what's important instead of hitting us with a barrage of time-consuming chatter. You would be perfect as an instructor for students studying to do maintenance on these machines. I'm going to confess to my own stupidity and thank you for calling it to my attention. I'm pretty sure, after watching this video, that I neglected to line up the notch with the wire when I replaced my clutch drum. Duhhhhh. I'll know for sure in the morning. Just in case, I've watched your other videos on oil feed issues just in case it's something else.

I picked up a 180 from eBay and while it oiled it did not do so to my standards, so I replaced it. When I got it out it had goober coming out the shift, so I replaced the oil line and cleaned the tank too. It is best too insert the new oil line in the tank, first. I also replaced the worm gear and cleaned up the clutch side. It worked when I got it from the seller but it left a lot to be desired. Now, it works great but I have replaced a lot of things on it and repaired other things. It is not brand new but it thinks it is.

Is there a way to inspect a clutch and tell if it's worn? My saw clutch occasionally slips when cutting tough wood, but I disassembled clutch and don't know how to tell if it's worn and needs to be replaced. It's not like my car clutch with an organic material. The clutch seems to be all metal. Maybe you could make a video on how to inspect a clutch and know if it should be replaced? Thanks for your great videos!

Of course I am an idiot but my clutch didn't just come out, I used pliers and pried on it and still wouldn't come out easily, but wait for it... I had the forward bar-lever lock that locks up the chain for emergencys to stop the chain spinning, was in its locked position... turned it off and easy peasy.

Wow this is great. My MS251 saw smoked up and now the center shaft spins but the gear that turns the chain does not. I am trying to figure out what is wrong. At first the break was stuck but now that is clicking properly it seems. I'm hoping that it won't be too expensive of a repair at the dealer. This video gave me some hope but I'm still not positive why the chain won't turn. If you have any ideas I would be grateful to hear what you think I did to it? I won't be able to go to the dealer till Monday. Your video is great. Thank You for sharing!!!

A clutch spring went on my Stihl 024AVS. I mighta ran the saw this way for several cuts. Upon clutch removal, I noticed the outer diameter had a slight lip. This is clearly not normal, right? I'm assuming since a spring went (1 of the 3) it put unequal pressure on the 3 shoes, causing the lip. This could cause slippage right?

@TheKrayusKorianis
@TheKrayusKorianis 3 года назад
It's basically the same oil pump system tbh. Except the 170 & 180 don't have an elbow connector and separate oil line like the 250. 170-180 has a removable oil tank (don't need to remove it), one oil line that acts like the elbow on the 250. Donyboy has a 170-180 oil line replacement video. I also think Donyboy has one for the 250 oil pump, so does Taryl Fixes All (he replaces the entire system). It's just a long M5 threaded screw to pull the pump.

As usual another precise great video. I however have another problem. My chainsaw is a MS 180 C, with not many hrs on it. I was looking at my chain brake bc it wasn’t working properly. Thinking it was going to be a simple fix. After closer inspection it seems it was not properly used and either left engaged or being engaged while still at a higher rpm. Either way the result is the plastic housing being damaged from the heat. After watching a few of your videos, I was finally able to get the clutch drum off and then pieces/parts of the roller bearing came apart, mostly the pins on the roller bearing. Unfortunately, the springs to the clutch were also off. I was finally able to get the chain brake off, prying it gently from the melted housing. Can the Springs be put back on the clutch assembly? I would imagine the Oiler worm gear is prob damaged. While I did purchase this saw new, I did let someone borrow it and he took it to “his guy” to replace a chain and also “tune it up”. I do not know how in depth “his guy” took apart the saw. However his tune up made it run worse, especially idling. I was able to tear down the carburetor and got it running back properly. I am also properly guilty of not keeping it as clean as I should have. Being this. What is the proper way to clean the housing & clutch assembly? I heard brake cleaner or carb cleaner. Will it hurt if it gets in/on the oiler? I was going to take some very fine sand paper & clean up/smooth out where the chain brake goes. Is this chainsaw worth fixing or should I get another and keep/sell it for parts? Can you also provide the replacement part info for the following parts & anything else you think I may need: 1. Chain Brake 2. Roller Bearing 3. Possibly Clutch 4. Possibly Oiler Worm Gear Is it ok to buy from Amazon or other 3rd party or should I get the parts directly from Stihl? I can provide any pics that may be useful as well as my email/other. Thanks in advance

Great videos - you really helped with a complete cylinder/piston rebuild. I have a question about the clutch on my MS180C - when I took everything apart I'm not sure if I have a part that should be included in the clutch assembly. Its a concave washer - not the big washer that says top. It seems to go on top of the worm drive just beneath the large washer. When I put everything together I can still attach all the parts of the clutch and clip the circlip. Allows for 0 play. Is this OK?

Do I just pull the spark plug and use either a piston stop or piece of nylon rope to keep the clutch tight and turn my clutch nut clock wise to remove it????
