Hi from Australia. I agree with you when it comes to working a bit harder for your firewood. I don't mind the extra work and it is great exercise. And being out in the woods/forest/bush what ever you call it, is like meditation.

Hello Genin. As we have discussed before, this is my favorite kind of Firewood gathering. Small saw, bike, and a small trailer and bring home enough to have a nice little split session. Keeps it fun and simple!261, 545, 550, all great size saws to take into the woods. I love my 261. Great video brother.👍🏻👍🏻

Red rot get them. If the bark is able to come off or falls off cherry lasts a long time dead. But with the bark on it’s like sponge.

That one cherry that you thought looked like it was going to fall into the walnut...The mark on the bottom looks like damage from a skidder pulling logs against it. Cherry grows big around here, up to 3 feet diameter.

I have hade jonsered saws for many years but around two years ago I switched to sthil ms 261 cm with 16 inch bar and ms 362cm with a 18 inche bar with a sthil hexa chain absolutely love both saws I am really dreaming of the 462 cm I will most likely get one in the end og the year its not my business but you should get som proper loging pants those we use here in Norway from sthil feels like wearing a regular pant my father is a professional logger and he was only cutting a few logs for firewood one evening and he managed to cut his leg he was lucky he wasn't far away and that he didn't damage any arteries stay safe we only got one life I have worked as a firefighter for about 15 years and seen a few bad chainsaw accidents that could have been a different story if the proper safety gear was used

I'm glad to see that you're definitely getting a lot of use out of your new trailer. It's working well for you! I'd love to get a skidding winch for my tractor, but man, the thought of shelling out that 5-7K for one just hurts me LOL.

Thanks Jeff, I agree, skidding winch is a big price tag! I’d like to have a 3 point grapple skidder, just back up, grab and drag out, ideally never get out of the seat. But then I’d be complaining about cutting muddy logs 😂

we just got a wood boiler to heat our home and i need to get a chainsaw . we have over 100 acers of family property to get wood from . i have zero chainsaw experience but i also have several people very familiar with them to teach me how to use one . anyhow ....... the 261CM with a 20 inch bar is at the top of my list because i don't want a plastic housing and the folks i've asked here have only recommend stihl ..... except the husqvarna dealer . i will definately be using wrap chaps .

@iffykidmn8170
@iffykidmn8170 6 месяцев назад
Huge fan of the 261 since buying my first 026 30 odd years ago not a fan of running a 20" b&c on them, IMHO the best one saw plan for firewood is a 70cc saw. I run both Stihl and Husqvarna saws 25cc all the way up to 120cc and everything in between and yes highly recommend sticking with the Pro grade line of saws.
@JeffB1961
@JeffB1961 6 месяцев назад
@@iffykidmn8170 i'm 62 with a not great back and a replaced knee and hip so i'm not gonna be cutting huge trees for my boiler and it has a 16x18 door . i could go to the 400c but that's $300 + 2 more lbs . but holding the bare heads/motors in the dealer the 2 extra lbs. was real noticeable . thanks very much for the reply :)
@iffykidmn8170
@iffykidmn8170 6 месяцев назад
@@JeffB1961 yes the 2 extra pounds is noticeable and especially at the end of the day! the larger power head also cuts faster cutting the same amount of wood in less time so there is that to factor in. 65 with a not so great back and I could probably do with new hips and knees as well. One thing 50yrs of chainsaw use has shown me is there no ideal chainsaw and bar combination for every situation thus I own many saws combos pick your poison and then figure which works best for your situation and know that you can always buy another saw.

Hi Genin, nice video. We have the same problem in Minnesota. I haven’t seen many cherry in the area our farm was 5years ago.Hard maple and hickory were dying at a rate that you couldn’t possibly keep up to. What ever the bug is it does the same as ash borer. I captured several bugs that look a lot like the ash borer but are only half the size. The only good thing is all the bark falls off a lot like elm trees years ago. I am very concerned. The 261 worked well for you. I love mine. I grab the 261 before the 400. Take care bud. Al

Cherry 🍒 don’t last long in the 709 because moose love feed on them , if there get off the ground them the bear 🐻 crush them for the wild cherry 🍒 on them . If try to keep up 🆙 with the west coast saw with bark box 📦, west coast dogs 🐕 better get a 32” bar to them . If you want keep up 🆙 with me get over 100cc and twin turbo help to .

Just saw a comment about the choice of a yellow or green chain. Please be easy on me, lol, but I didn't know these distinctions existed, but would like to know which applications you would choose either/or.
@765Guys
@765Guys 6 месяцев назад
The green is more of a safety chain, low kickback. The yellow is more aggressive. Personally I don’t think the yellow is unsafe or aggressive, but it cuts much faster than the green chain. A lot of the stihl .325 chains fit the entry level saws, so they come with the safety chain because typically the new chainsaw users are purchasing those models and the best way to learn is safely.
@SteeleMagnolia

@@765Guys Thank you! I thought so, but wasn't sure. I saw a video years ago where they filed the rakers all the way down, to get that "bite", so I did the same, on my big Husqvarna. Tested it out on a big poplar that I dropped a few days before, and wow, I felt like I had just won the lottery! The kickback was very real, but I was prepared for it.

I'm like you I have the Ms 261c and the Ms 462c ! Both are great saws . And I think the reason why the cherry and ash are dying is because the insects or maybe a fungal disease idk I'm just guessing at this point . Where are you from brother ?

@765Guys
@765Guys 6 месяцев назад
We’ve run the 550 and 261 side by side, 261 holds it own, maybe a slight edge in torque.. it’s a step above the 545 as well. I prefer Husqvarna saws but I’ll give credit where it’s due.
@iffykidmn8170
@iffykidmn8170 6 месяцев назад
@@765Guys Never really thought about it much before but maybe its the little extra torque of the 261 that I prefer as the small saws do not have much ooomph to start with, simple muffler mod and base gasket delete really wakes the 261 up.
