@madcrasher1419 oh trust me, I know how hot the 3090's can get. I have a Dell rtx 3090 that i have had to upgrade with better thermal solutions due to the vram temps climbing to a uncomfortable level. Haven't had a water cooled GPU yet though.
@@nithinravi4401 The RTX 3080 is about 50% faster than the RTX 4060. It's a shame that the difference isn't smaller because the GTX 1060 6GB was on par with the GTX 980 back in the day, and the RTX 2060 was very close to the GTX 1080.

In Cyberpunk 2077 I cannot tell the difference between high and ultra, but I can sure tell the difference in FPS. 1080p high it is for me and my 3060 laptop.
I understand the bus width versus memory size condition, but still 8gb for 3070 and 10gb for 3080 was a bad decision. I will be using my 3070 anyways till at least Half Life 4 comes out.
The 10GB 3080 still edges out the 16GB 6800XT at 4K and below 4 years on, hasn't lost any ground. That said I agree 12GB would have felt more sensible.

3080fe still insanely good. Only games that don't run well with 10gb of vram at 1440p are normally ones that are terribly optimized. I'm running cyberpunk with optimized settings + RT Overdrive + fsr3 comfortably
No, they were not lmao. I did not see anyone complain about the VRAM shortage when both of these cards released and 3060's 12 GB was considered "excessive", it was only after games like TLOU2 released, that people started suddenly panicking about VRAM.

Hardware Unboxed retested 3080 roughly a year ago and they actually came to a pretty positive conclusion - 10GB was not a major issue at that time. Moreover they have not even found any real life gaming scenarios, when 3080 could run out of VRAM. By that time 3080 was a 3 year old GPU. So 3080 owners had 3 years of so-called uncompromised gaming experience. While 3070 had already had some issues in certain games just a year after it's release.
3080 Ti would seem to be holding up quite well compared to this regular 2080. Either way, Nvidia sucks ass and I am not looking forward to their upcoming overpriced garbage......Blackwell!
11:28 nice transition :D ! Btw I have that card (asus tuf) from launch with a i9 9900kf and 16gb ram. Some times I notice the VRAM is the main drop, but 16GB too in some games. What I'm going to upgrade next is the cpu and Ram (for better 1% lows and less stutters, that's what I prioritize the most), then the GPU. At the moment, I play in a good quality graphics settings in 1440p, and in some games I use the DLSS FG to AMD FG MOD. For exemple, in wukong I use 2 mods, One for the shadows rendering and the one for DLSS FG to AMD FG, so I can use DLSS with AMD FG and I play in 80-100fps, 1%Lows above 65fps, with my settings mixed between cinematic and V.H at 1440p
interesting build; id definitely recommend upgrading cpu and ram by now, the 9th gen was pretty comparable to the ryzen 3000 series, and not many would use a ryzen 3000 chip with a 3080. newer architecture and ddr5 would go a long way to getting all the performance out of that card
I've had my 3080 since launch and it's never let me down, the only problems I run into are when the game is clearly at fault and run like crap on everything.

I have the 12GB version of this card, and it’s still going pretty strong at 1440P ultrawide. I have gotten to the point where I need DLSS or lower the settings a bit to keep framerates high. I’ve been considering a 4080S or 7900XTX, but I think I’ll wait for next gen to see what they have to offer.
The circumstances surrounding the 3080 was such a disappointment. I didn't try to get one until prices started shooting up when the mining boom started so I wound up with a 3060 ti because it was all I could find for less than a million dollars. Then when I finally got one a year and a half later I quickly realized that 10gb wasn't going to be enough so I decided to sell it and get a used 4080 if I could find a used one for $800 which never happened. Then I was made an offer of a used 4090 plus $1000 and my old 3080 and I made the deal. The circumstances surrounding the 3080 was such that I would rather just forget the whole thing. I'm not going to buy another gpu for a long time because now I can use my 4090 with a 1440p monitor and that should last many more years. Then when that gets too slow I'll switch back to my old 1080p monitor. Then when that gets too slow I'll switch to an old 900p monitor I have. Then when that gets too slow I'll get a 720p monitor. Then when that gets too slow I'll find a 480p monitor. Then when that gets too slow...
I have the same feelings as you surrounding RTX 3000. I ended up paying $1000 for a 3070ti. Every time I look at it in my PC, I don't feel good about it. Also, no, you know full well you aren't going to go back to your decade-old 1080p monitor once the 4090 feels "slow".

@@Buddhakingpen Ah, it's another person who thinks "a 4090 is overkill for 1440p." No, it's not. The issue is that there are no 4k cards unless you're one of those people that are fine with 60fps. I am not. I like 120fps and I'm getting that. In less gpu-heavy games I use dsr at 1920p and 4k but here's the thing: when needed I can drop it down to native 1440p where it still looks sharp and with a 4k monitor you can't do that. I could go on and on about this explaining every detail of the advantages of 1440p monitors over 4k monitors but I think you get the idea, or maybe you don't.

It still is powerful lol. It’s legit the same speed as a 4070 and it’s currently 4 years old. Sometimes it even beats the 4070. The only cards that beat the 3080 are currently 800 dollars or more. For some reason nowadays people think “it can’t run 1440p ultra at 144 fps so it’s obsolete” and that’s a goofy sentiment. I promise you in any vram limited titles you can just lower the settings slightly and barely notice any loss in quality and enjoy the game perfectly fine at 1440p. People who act like this performance isn’t acceptable are the ones paying thousands to Nvidia for the few cards that out perform it therefore enabling Nvidia to continue selling at these crazy prices. Anyone with a 3080 should keep it and enjoy it at high settings 1440p. Don’t need ultra, it’s 4 years old.
Still choosing to use my RTX 3080 FE paired with a 5800X3D rather than my other rig which rocks a 6800XT and 12600K. It just seems smoother somehow. I wonder if the 6800XT would pair better with the AMD processor but so far have been too lazy to swap it all round.
@@LeftJoystick I'd be curious to see that 12600k with E cores off and 4.9ghz-5ghz all core. I was able to cool that on air, I think it was 183w. There is no getting around the X3D cache being good for gaming though.
If you look up Monster Hunter Wild's recommend specs. Frame Gen is now required for 1080p 60fps. Not much to do with the cards on the list. More AI upscales are making devs more and more lazy.
Depends on the resolution you play at and if RT is involved. At 1080p with RT the 4070 can outperform even a 3090 in many games. Though at 4k the 4070 performs more like an overclocked 3070 Ti.

My 3080 can still run games at 1440p ultra 60 fps (usually) so I'm very happy with it If it doesnt, just turn it down to high, maybe put on dlss quality, and I get another 2-4 years out ofnit
After waiting 4 months post-release for a 3080, my local pc shop offered me an XFX 6800 xt with a $100 discount. Still glad I went with the 6800 xt. I can't help but wonder how different my gaming experience would have been had I waited for the RTX card, but its cool to see that the 3080 is still hanging in there.
RE4 remake is a weird case of VRAM usage since increasing texture quality above high (1 GB I believe) only improves texture streaming speed and not the textures themselves. The actual VRAM usage in RE4 remake is usually around 6 gigs at 4K and not the 11 or 12 you sometimes see. Drop that down to 1440p and you're only really using about 5.5 gigs.
I have a 6800xt, and while it may not always beat a 3080 in performance, I know the 16gb of vram will last me many more years than the 10gb would. Hell, playing now at 1440p I frequently use upwards of 14gb of VRAM.

I remember trying to buy a 3080ti I eventually found one at B&H for $2000 I bought it right away without hesitation a month later I bought a Evga ftw3 3090ti ultra gaming from Evga for $1150. I was so happy and mad at the same time.
I'm running a 3080 Ftw3 in my backup and even on games that push it, a few minor tweaks in the settings and its right back to running a 1440p ultrawide. It can't always handle the ultra preset like it used to but overall its still a pretty good card.
I'm not gonna be upgrading from my 3080 for a long time. i don't play any UE5 era titles that need more, and it feels like the price of every GPU above a 3080 has an absurdly inflated price on both the new and used market.

I bought the same card from an ex-mining rig. It was $400 and definitely a risk, but after a repaste it has been an awesome card for the past 2.5 years.

I will give you a example: 7:56 here he runs it at 80fps, but its so extremely easy to run this game on my 3080 at 180fps at 1440p. You tune down volumetrics (you cant tell a visual difference) and shadows from v.high to high (you HONESTLY cant see a difference neither) add DLSS quality and you are at 150fps. Enable FSR frame gen and you at 180fps and the GPU is chilling (I have 180hz monitor) At this framerate the latency is a non issue, and its so fast you will never notice any visual artifacts of the generated frames. DLSS quality at 1440p is also almost same as native... you dont loose any quality nowadays, you will never be able to tell while playing the game..... Or you can always buy 1600USD GPU and "Crank it to ultra"... its your choice. Id rather save 1200 USD but thats just me.
The problem with DLAA is because the game these day are optimized with DLSS enable most of the time because it hide artifact or some weird rendering techique. So long gone were the day where native looks better than DLSS because game engine literally use it to hide problem on their part, Try using DLAA on some UE5 title and looks for shadows and cloud it looks horrible. I can't stretch enough how most of modern game are poorly optimized only to let DLSS and FSR to help it archived a playable FPS, Low setting aren't really "Low graphic" any more because even the lowest they still need Upscaling to hide it's ugly side. So turning on DLSS get better quality and more FPS you can clearly see why game dev love this shit.
I have a dell version and so far is not bad. Though with newer games I'm starting to get dips and less frames on 1440p. Wanting to upgrade but can't justify a $900 cost for a 4080 used.

If the 3060ti had 12gb of vram like the reg 3060 then I'd give the title to the 3060ti but we don't live in that timeline sadly
GPUs and CPUs have become really stressed lately. There was a time when a 2500K would be plenty for gaming for years. Now even the best new CPUs struggle. And 1080ti used to be plenty for many years. Now cards like 3080 and 6900XT already struggle. Add to that increased prices in recent years and being a high end gamer has never been more expensive. Thankfully there are so many great games I haven’t played that aren’t new and UE5 based stress tests.
Yep game devs really got lazy to optimize their products. They just try to release them as fast as possible, give a 3 year support and drop it as soon as no one buys it

I paid $1300 for my RTX 3080 Sep 27th 2020. It is the Gigabyte Aorus waterforce xtreme waterblock edition. So it came stock with a water block, not AIO or air cooler which made it's MSRP a little higher than a air cooled founders edition. Still paid way too much and is the main reason I don't have a 40 series yet. My only complaint about the card is that it came with a locked BIOS. Yes you heard me correctly, gigabyte released a custom water cooled GPU that cannot be overclocked by voltage with stock BIOS... I did put a modded bios on mine eventually. But I don't bother overclocking the core for just basic gaming. I really only did it trying to hit a higher 3DMark score.

weird to see the title say only just. Its doing fine? I have had the thing since its release as I managed to get it at msrp. I play at 3440x1440p and sure you cant max games out... But thats always been stupid. Maxing out games gives almost no real benefit over just running them at the next highest or better optimised settings. Never had issues with the 10gb VRAM limit.
My guy you can't start off a re review of a gpu that is a few years old by testing it against the most dogsht unoptimized games that even a 4080 struggles with and going "idk guys it's not really reaching that 60 fps" a 4090 is what it requires to get 60 fps at 4k in black myth. The game doesn't know optimisation at all lol. Star wars outlaws... It's ubisoft enough said there. God of war. Have you played ff16? Sony can't create a pc port to save their life. You are doing the 3080 dirty putting it up against games that are flat out broken and bad. You see how in older games that have actually seen some optimisation patches it still does amazing. This is the reality for all gpus even new ones that people call bad for no reason. They aren't bad, game developers are bad. They refuse to make a game and instead rely on upscaling and fg to do it for them.
had a 3080 in 2022, swapped to a 7900GRE earlier this year, i was consistently having issues with VRAM but that was the only issue that card had. loaned it out to a friend for a bit when his card died, now its my crown jewel of my EVGA card collection. a reminder of when they still made cards.
Just because a more powerful GPU puts out better numbers than a weaker one on the same CPU doesn't mean it's not CPU bottle necked... You can actually get better performance while CPU bottle necked by increasing the graphic presets.
Listen, I know that most people don’t have the best cpus but this is not a max overclock build. The benchmarks are unfortunately skewed in this video due to the ram speed, timings, and trash cpu. The only acceptable benchmarks should be coming from a system where it has a 7800x3d or a 12th gen i9, 13th and 14th gen i7, and a 14900k for the top end. These benchmarks just don’t do the card justice.
Always kept playing at 1080p Ultra/High settings for 4 years with my 3080. If I do happen to play more modern titles, I’ll probably have to reduce my settings or use upscaling.
Before buying a used GPU, I researched things a little bit. The RTX 20 series and before are obsolete, from the 30 series only the 3090 worth it, and 40 series haven't dropped yet, sometimes new is the same as used, plus it has the awful 12VHPWR. On the AMD side, a used 6900 XT and 6950 XT are decent buys, anything below that is obsolete over 1080p, the RX7000 series is a nothing burger except for the 7900XTX, which is a great deal if you buy it new. I now own 2 EVGA 3090s for my 2 pcs, bought each for 600usd. Amazing cards, can play anything at 144Hz on 3440x1440.
Tip from the competition : RDNA2 combined with a good AX 3000 router ( any Asus ) is also definitely top notch for wireless VR by now. Got myself a 6800 XT, it was a gamble, but it plays everything on Virtual Desktop Ultra preset, HEVC 10bit, all bandwiths to the max. My Pico 3 outputs a picture as sharp as before on Displayport on a RX 5700 non XT, these AMD drivers team did one hell of a work with rdna2 development.
Consoles do NOT have access to 12GB of shared memory as VRAM. Its usually just under 10GB once the OS, subsystem and game data in memory itself is accounted for.
Jesus Christ it feels like it was only yesterday that I drove almost 2 hours to meet with a scalper to pay $950 for my RTX 3080. I figured it was still better than paying $1500. The 3080 is still plenty as far as I know.

Curious if the 12GB EVGA 3080 FTW benefits enough with its VRAM bump to help with some of the RT workload. While I’m probably not upgrading any time soon and have been relatively happy with my 12GB model, some of the RT benchmarks on the 10GB give me pause to perhaps reconsider. Also I'm happy to announce that 3 days ago I finally got used PC for my used RTX 3070 (225$) that was waiting for 4 month. For 365$ I got r5 5600, 16gb 3600 cl18 ram, B450M Mortar, 1tb Samsung SSD, MSI MAG A550BN 💣 in a small ATX case. The only sad thing is that I have no money for a monitor so I can't even try my PC 🤧
I ditched my 3080 for a 4090 since the 3080 for 4k is nothing more than a paperweight due to the 10gb, on and otherwise still capable performing card. It was so annoying playing games from late 2022 or later where it was clearly powerful enough but it was limited by Vram. Hogwarts Legacy comes to mind, it could easily do 4k Ultra at around 60fps with some RT effects on if it was a 16gb card like the AMD equivalent. Potentially another reason Nvidia RTX Frame Generation was locked to 40 series, it uses extra Vram, for my 4090 it uses an extra 500mb-1gb if I recall, which obviously all but the 3090 and 3090Ti would struggle with seeing as a lot of the games that support it are already Vram hungry. Reminds me of my old 960 2gb where every game was wanting 3-4gb for 1080p Ultra in 2015-2016 but the 960 was fast enough to run High or Ultra in a lot of those games.
Love my 3080 10 gb and 3080 Ti Paid just over 1,000 USD for both. Can't find a GPU worth the upgrade at the moment. There are plenty of GPU's out there with 8 gb or less of VRAM still playing games to this day. The 3080 at 10gb with a 320 bit bus will be a contender for a long time. The 4060 doesn't even hold a candle.
I just upgraded to the same model tested in the video earlier this month. It replaced my GTX 970 after 8 years of use :) I had a budget of around 430 USD, and this was the best offer in my country. Living in Europe, especially in a country with one of the highest VAT rates, the 3080 Ti/4070 Ti were my next options, but all of those were starting for the equivalent of 675/880 USD, which didn’t seem like a good value proposition to me. I guess it’s a different situation in other countries, but I'm happy with my purchase, especially since I’m already used to not playing games on ultra settings (considering I’ve only just replaced my 970 :'D). I'm more than satisfied with it.
Purchased this exact card a little over a year ago for $460, along with a 5800x3D for $240 about a month after for the purpose of playing Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p high / very high. It was really enjoyable using just traditional rasterization, but DLSS helped push it to a much smoother framerate, and i easily put 100+ hours in night city because of it. The card being able to handle most games at 1440p very high kinda raised my expectations, so nowadays i do end up noticing that it cant exactly handle everything maxxed in some games. I dont think this was reasonable to expect though, and thankfully most things i play absolutely don't necessitate the 3080 be pushed to its limits. The pc has been serving me well, and i dont anticipate having to change any part of it for a good long awhile, especially the 3080. As long as i keep my expectations reasonable, haha.
If I was down for an extremely incremental upgrade it would be cool to get a 3080 over my 3070 ti. The slight boost in vram alone would be nice since 8GB is starting to feel like a limiting factor at every resolution other than 1080p. Which sucks because I have a 4K monitor.
I have this exact 3080, got it used a year ago for just about $450. I replaced it in short order for specific build reasons (VRAM, mainly), but my EVGA FTW3 3080 10GB will always have a place on my shelf. I just love the thing (RIP EVGA). Still a solid card if you measure your expectations.
The low VRAM is Nvidia's version of planned obsolescence. They knew exactly what they are doing and still continued it with RTX 4000 but the normies still gobble up Nvidia products. Normies ruin everything.
I haven't found a need to upgrade my EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra which I bought in 2020 for $900. I've mostly play single player/story driven games so it should still last me a few more years.
I have the 12gb model and its still working just fine at 4k. All ultra settings on red dead redemption 2 and 90 fps average with a few dips into the lower 80's in st denis. The 10gb 3080 has fewer cores too.
When I saw that people were buying the RTX 3080 in droves, I was convinced that people are stupid. I grabbed an RX 6800 XT because I knew that 10GB of VRAM on a card with the RTX 3080's level of power was a joke.
DLSS is definitely going to extend the life of this card. The technology has evolved so much it's basically just free performance at this point. Plus don't forget about FSR frame gen. While not nearly as impressive as DLSS, it's still an option to boost your fps (albeit "fake" fps). I know it will use more vram, but like I said, it's still an option. I'll admit that 10gb vram isn't as future proof as I'd like, but hey at least it's not 8gb like most cards. And as much as I like ray tracing, even the newest gen GPUs still struggle offering ideal ray tracing performance (I'm talking 100+ fps) without any use of upscaling or frame gen. I think we're still a couple of generations too early for ray tracing to be the norm anyway. Needless to say, I won't be replacing my 3080 anytime soon. 👍

Is it CPU Bottlenecked? Usage seems low or its like that? Genuinely asking since I have one for years and have it paired with 5600x and now with 12700 (non K). Don't have a high refresh rate so I always have it locked 75fps at 1440p.
Card is holding well, its more about game develepers stopped optimization, like rly most of game looking barely better then ps4 gen games, but they runing like 720-1080p native on ps5 with fsr on top.
I have RTX 3090 and still 24GB isn't enough for full res textures in SimRail. Waiting for 5090 32GB 😅 I get drops from about 50 FPS to 10 FPS at the end of 4 hour realtime trip in game and 24 GB of vram used after 3h. Have to set textures to 1/2 of 4k in order to keep it playable 😂

The GRE from AMD is a stout beast that pushes far beyond the 4070ti super performance with no upscaling req'd.
At one end, if i had been able to buy an rtx 3080 at the original msrp during 2020, i feel id have been sitting pretty for a while. Given the news and rumors corroborating this year, i.. really dont have anything good to look forward to. Nvidia is going to try and charge $2000 for a goddamn 5060, AMD isnt even attempting to exceed the outgoing 7900xtx, and intel isnt even in the conversation; and i very much remember how trash the A770 started.
