This is the soap base that started the "elite" soap base frenzy. I don't care if Mike doesn't do publicity or new base soaps every 2 month. He was the one that made the first soap base that I said...wow...artisan soap bases can be awesome. I really wish that his soap would receive more love. It's an awesome soap at a great price. Orange Cedarwood and Black Pepper is a MUST HAVE from every wet shavers. Thank you David for showcasing this wonderful soap maker. It was ahead of it's time.

posting this before watching the vid: I will say this and have this forever. Mike's base formula is the base which 99% of artisans now use, even if they dont know it came from Mike's. What I mean is the Multiple butter, tallow and lanolin formula (mike's has kokum, shea, tallow, lanolin and also clay). Now in regards to performance i now only use 5 brands and nothing else. Those are Mike's Naturals, B&M, A&E, Declaration Grooming and Wholly Kaw. Mike's is the only old school formula that can hang out with the new super formulas, its a legendary and ageless soap. Will always be on my den. Slickness is 110/100 for me, especially secondary slickness when lather is gone and want to do buffing, which I do a lot.

Nice one David. I don't mind the label now that it's not brown paper. It sort of has a retro vibe to it. Mike's was one of the first non-M&P Artisans and I still enjoy the product.

I just have Barbershop (second tub because I pif'ed the first one) and it's a great performer. It won't leave the den.

Thanks David when I started this hobby I was given the barbershop of Mikes Natural and I think it was very old because it was horrible. I think I will pick the one you just used :)

I agree mikes is a good soap and seems to have been forgotten about. When I think about it I remember older brands like Mystic Waters, Strop Shoppe, Las Angeles Shave Soap etc., they were all around when Mikes seemed to be in its heyday. Glad the family is Rona free stay safe.

I never tried Mike’s and they used to be in Ann Arbor, MI. I’m from MI and thought that was cool, but apparently they moved to Portland, OR. I didn’t even know. I always heard their product was great, but I agree with you that they should kick things up a notch and add some unique artwork, at least make something different for each scent. Steve

I agree with you, havin a good soap is just not enough anymore and Mike's being forgotten is theirbone fault. Back in the day, Mike was THE SOAP, and in terms of performance still is on par with today's standard, but they haven't inovated, aren't present anywhere and so on. In sea of good stuff today artisans really have to push hard to stay in the loop or be unique. Mike sadly isn't.
