I watched Lady Gaga at the Kennedy Center honors for Sting (anyone who hasn't seen it and likes this performance should go watch it) where she covers "If I ever lose my faith", and I thought to myself, " this is one of the best live cover performances I've ever seen. Well this is maybe the best live performance of any somg I've ever seen. And I'm a rocker who grew up in the 80s and 90s. I won't try to speak for her other performances, but these 2 are as good as it gets.
Gaga cannot be accused of copying Madonna when she's so different, not to mention actually talented vocally. Madonna is a creative mind, but it almost literally stops there. Gaga is a creative mind, outstanding singer, amazing musician...
She blew my mind with The Rolling Stones, then in that Stevie Wonder tribute, then with Metallica, also with U2...the guys from Kiss praise her talents she breathes out music and is really authentic I guess that's why she's admired by more than one rock legend

Well, I've played music a long time and know musicians body language. First, if you look with several views, you realize that especially towards the end, the whole band is digging it. Sting is happy. And she wouldn't be there if Sting didn't think she could do the job. One reason she's there is that Sting knew she wouldn't just copy him, that she'd bring something different. She's very soulful and bluesy. Very cool to listen to and a hot delivery.

Saw this video performance 5 yrs ago and I still can't hold my tears when I watch it. Gaga's so spectacular and did an amazing job in here. You can see that by looking at Sting's face at the end of the video. So much respect for both doing this collab
WOW ..... what a duet?!?!? THIS must be one of the very BEST duets that i have ever heard from STING. AMAZING and gives me goose bumps all over. What terrific voices combines and 2 REAL artists who know there "game" That's what i call Pro's just stunning!
This woman is fearless. What other artist can walk onto someone elses stage and own it.Shes not only the greates performer of this era but a true musician and singer. I agree with you Sean ... just look at those honest spontaneous reactions from the crowd, the musicians and from Sting himself. Sting is one the most high quality standard not to say top musicians walking the Earth and when he's impressed, man you have made it. All my respect for that so incredibly talented brave woman with a heart of gold such as Lady Gaga is. I salute all the musicians in this video ... it makes my day every time again and again ... it is real art, isn't it.
The two of them together = a POWERHOUSE.... She is magnificent and deserves EVERYTHING she's worked so hard for. And he is grace in action in this song.
She was in school bands doing classic rock covers, I believe one of the bands specifically did Led Zep covers, people are amazed when they see her doing stuff that isn't big production dance numbers but she was doing Jazz and Rock before all that.
I have always liked this song in a very laid back, lovin' Sting kind of way...but this was just dynamite with a pure gold chaser!! I loved how Sting kept smiling throughout the song like he might have get getting some chills from what Gaga was bringing. Then, by the end of the song, even the background singers were smiling like they were swept up in the magic. WOWZA!

Tony bennet said she is the greatest better than all the greats including elvis, marylin,Streisand. She is a wonder to behold,we are So lucky to have her, a world treasure.

I agree with Vincent that she is a great vocalist. Very good, its a shame that she needs to resort to all the crazy imagery to gain attention to her. She should just trust her voice. However, I disagree she is unlike any other female pop star. Pink is superb, and one of the leading female vocalists. Sheryl Crow also has a magnificent; in fact Gaga sounds a little like Sheryl. Regardless of our opinions, her contribution to this version of the song is fantastic!

At 60 years of age, life long musician, shit load of vicissitudes in my life. I've had the privilege of seeing, hearing and being obsessed with so many artists through my fucked up life. I love so many artists but, in the end Stephanie, Joanne, Angelina Germanotta is the consummate artist. She can sing, play and adapt to everything that is thrown at her. Every time I see her my heartbeat doubles, the hair on my arms rise. She fills me with emotions so rare. She is really special. She has saved my life. I still struggle with the fact that the hours, days, months and years of practicing, performing were not for me. I can turn around and see, not just her, but the beautiful ones behind us rising above and pushing through to present their artistry. "I Get It"! I reach back and I'll help you to the next level. It's about you. I did my trip. Rock on Gaga! I love you...the daughter I never had... : )

Peter Ferguson But that is your opinion Peter. As another lifelong musician this is a bad cover version performed by Lady Gaga with Sting as an endorsement. Her pretentious vocals(the ones she chose) dont suit this song. Neither do her elbow swinging in the video. Its another example of when performance is more important than the material. Thats MY opinion.
I love GaGa and I don't understand the Madonna comparisons, especially from Madonna herself. She sings live, she kills piano and she's a total collaborator. This is great.

I don't always like Lady Gaga's music. What always impresses me is her reverence for the greats. She always seems honored to perform with the legends and do their music. This is impressive.

Best version of the song I have ever heard by far. But that's what you get from a talented woman that's been playing piano since the age of 4, singing and songwriting since the age of 13 and was a theatre student at the legendary Tisch School of the Arts at N.Y.U.
She brings glamour, art, sophistication, rawness and grace to the stage and to the song. She is incapable of being cliche. Love her with Sting. She infuses his beautiful song with a whole new vibe.

Really now, Lady Gaga is genius, don't always like her choices as it comes cheezy. Mark ONeill It was her job to interpret Sting's song for this show...he knew she'd do what she did and that is pull the best music out of everyone on the stage...she's a musical genius and a business woman. Talent is best of this generation of females.
Love this performance, I can't wait for the day Lady Gaga changes direction & releases a classical rock/power ballad album. I know this day will come, because it's clearly what she's best at, she belongs on that stage. She's not a pop star, she's a rockstar that made her way up through Pop Music.

She's fun when she's singing her pop songs and dancing, but she practically glows when she's playing the piano. I wish she would stick to jazz and rock, because those are the genres that truly allow her to shine her true talents.
