It’s like a flashback to my childhood, long forgotten times of the Cold War. Now all is present again, all the fear, as if the last 30 years have never been existed.
Another song worth hearing again now is this one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Kcy-W1NNlU.html Russia , Ukraine, haven't you heard we won the war, what do they go on fighting for ? The other thing about it is how bad we all should feel for Putin's young conscripts. They are certainly not to blame. They literally have a gun to their backs.
I'm waiting for the letter telling me to put a door at 45° and put some cushions on it to crawl under. Don't go out until the smell of pork or whatever that is has gone. Stay safe geezer and I don't just mean the next fucking virus.
Too late. You decided to be “nice” to Putin’s regime, and here is the result. They don’t even think we share the same biology any more as they are now fascist. We can only hope people in Russia will resist and help us stamp out this cancer is the norm over there. All this “feminists are bad, Jews are bad, LGBTQ people are bad” is murdering democracy. People who believe this way should be incarcerated for the common good. At the very least, deplatform them.
@@racheltheehermit7314 oh my God. Wait what? Very very respectfully. That is you have taken away from the current situation over that part of the world? Well that's Putin and his government and his military soldiers really give two... About the alphabet soup Community or about what we think of democracy versus what they do? I'm sorry but respectfully I don't understand. I mean I'm sorry but the Jewish faith? Feminist? Where are you getting this that has anything to do with what Putin is trying to do to the Ukrainian people?
Doesn't the nation who surrenders then lose the war? If this is true, then the other nation won. What happens after this is you hash out details to make sure you don't go to war again.Of course in the song it is talking about nuclear war. I would argue that the nation who destroys the most would win. But they would take serious damage to their own nation.
Zur Zeit ist es wichtig , das dieser Song weit verbreitet wird .Man braucht nur die Namen auszutauschen . Der Song ist wichtiger , als je zuvor . Danke STING
This comment was written on 28th February 2022. Russia has invaded the Ukraine and the President of Russia has threatened the west with the use of nuclear weapons. This song was was written in 1984 and released in 1985 and is now more relevant than ever before. If you are reading this in the future and we survived this period, just be grateful of your life.
I feel the same. My heart beats for the Ukraine, every thought is a prayer to let this end. I know Russians very well and I can only warn you not to be naive. No offense against people from Russia who think independent. I also pray for you.
@@miadelmoro2558 Thx Mia, we know "russians" my dad told us that the germans did bad things, but russians even more. War is hell to both sides! We luckely are in NATO land but for Oekraine its differend. The world should have act after the Crimea action.. but UN....its all talk. China, India, Isr. Etc. Turkie putin will have Kiev but never get the whole of Oekraine. Russia will be broken after this adventure and the russian people will suffer fore many years its also up to them. Tears for Oekraine but russia will NEVER rule the whole Oekraine. And putin will be gone. We remember MH17.
This song has always been relevant. It is a reminder that we are just one world, and when there is a war only innocents pay the highest price. Sting's tune is beautiful and poignant. Oh and by the way, there are always two sides in a story. Not everything is black and white, specially in war.
Even when this video was made, the words "There's no such thing as a winnable war" were true for the Afghanistan war. I am truely in pain for those in Ukraine, i have grown up in a privileged life in Australia, easily one of the hardest to attack nations in the world (geographically), so the only threat i have had is of a draft if China invaded the south china sea, so i find it hard to empathise with those in these scenarios. This song changes that, it makes me understand the pain of those in war zones.
This song means so much to me, My greatgrandfather was born and raised in Russia but spend his last days in hungary changing his name from Russian to something hungarian. My grandfather told me everything from the cold war... The russians were only humans... The civilians didn´t have anything to do with the war. I cry everytime I hear this song.
I was born in the 60s and in the military in the 80s. I remember much of the fear, the music, the movies - it's all come rushing back to me over the last 2 months. This song, Wind of Change (after the fall of the Berlin Wall, glasnost, and the hope it brought), Distant Early Warning, Red Skies at Night, 99 Luftballons - so many. My mind is reeling seeing things that were part of my life experience become relevant again for a new generation who never had to live through that. It breaks my heart.
I was born in 1970, in the United States, we experienced, in the early to mid 1980s, more than a few times when our two nations could have gone nuclear. It was a very scary time, and Sting was not being overly dramatic.
@MrJacMac1968 Also during the Cuban missal crisis in 1962 when a Soviet submarine had thought war had already broken out and two of the senior officers on the sub gave the go ahead to launch but a man named Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov gave the order not to launch and prevented the launch cause they needed all three senior officers to vote yes so that was another day that came very close.
@@jimsawyer1324 Are you an insane, idiot? I wonder if you really can read what kind of crap you are writing. There is no such thing as overpopulation and even if there are too many people, it is not as dangerous for the environement as some freaks claim. Apparently you've been brainwashed by ecofreak propaganda. Secondly, even if overpopulation was a problem, THERE IS NO REASON WHATSOEVER to let the government or other ruling institution to have a control over who has right to be born and who has not. It is never a good solution. Keep giving away more an more power and you will see how you can't do shit because everything is decided for you. How you are going to live, how long, what kind of rights you have... It's horrible how stupid people are to willing to give away freedom for security and comfort nowadays. Until you find out you have none in the end. Abortion is wrong. Even oif you think it's alright, ask yourself if you were into it when it was you to be in place of a child to be aborted. If your mother just decided to kill you because she wants to ebar no responsibility for you. Because you are nothing but a burden. Ask yourself how would you feel realising that. Have some more empathy, people!
@@jimsawyer1324 You are really ignorant, when God created Earth he knew we would populate it, the natural order of things is what keeps the resources coming, now if every last man on earth was immortal we may have a problem, but that's definitely isn't the case, now is it?
I remember listening to this song with my very international bunch of student dorm friends (some of which were Russians) back in 2001, when Russia and the West were genuinely friendly with each other, and we all were like "Damn, cold war must have sucked, good thing those days are finally over and we can travel all over Europe, study abroad, make friends and hang out together; yay peace and shared humanity!" Well, fuck. 😥
@@yvanazastrasz9013 Yes! Better still. Thank goodness there have been those who truly bothered to attempt to educate via music. It's the very best medium because it's universally accepted. Makes me think of the Supertramp song "If Everyone Was Listening". If only!
The world knows that the Russian people don't support "Putin's War" either. We also feel sad for Russians. The world economic sanctions will mostly hurt only the innocent people of Russia. We know that your life is much harder now too😥We also see that many Russians are risking their lives to demonstrate against Putin. We pray for Russia too, and that somehow this will all end in peace very soon🙏🏻✝️💖🇺🇦🇷🇺🕊️🕊️
I shure, all people, who live in the Word, love ther children too,I Kazhak,my neighbor Russian,we are really like our children... I really like this song, because Sting's song is so exciting and awesome, Best regards, Askar Makhamov, Republic of KAZAKHSTAN 🇰🇿, Almaty City
Some kind of missiles door opening alert sound in background at the ending of the song ( i guess) i have got the stings message till first air... Eighties.
This Song reminds me when I was Only a Little boy...And now that I've become a father, It surely makes sense to me in a totally different way Love the children, respect their future.
I recall my dad working in the Pentagon as a senior Army officer in the early 80s, and when I asked around age 10 what our family’s evacuation plan was, he said none was needed as the first missile strikes obviated the concerns of being survivors. He was never much for message subtleties or nuance.
Shivers down my spine. Boy, do I remember the cold war. Might've been frightening in US, but if you'd lived next to Soviets with a history of four wars against them in 30 years... And being the first western country on their way...

Es un tema impresionante. Tiene una letra espectacular, que refleja en pocos versos la tensión política que vivía el mundo en ese momento. La música está cargada de dramatismo y acompaña perfectamente. Una verdadera joya del maestro Sting.

We were shown this by our history teacher(I’m in 8th grade) and I love this song and I understand it he explained it all he is an absolutely amazing history teaching been teaching for about 13 years I think and knows everything well almost everything about history you can ask and I loved how he explained this and it’s a story that I often listen and thanks to my teacher to understand it
Whoever did this should be punished. Russian or ukranian but probably the truth will never be found. As it seems in a lot of people interest to hide it and to slow the investegation . One thing i know the people in the plain played no part in the conflict. Or their families.
***** Russian news is just a 24/7 propaganda news, similar too the the US or any other countries media. In 2008 the Giant was poisoned, and fell to one knee. But he has risen again, gaining strength as he chews on your cheap rubles and fried rice.
I learnt it at school in my youth in Italy. I always found this song like a poetry, ( along with Fragile ). Also nowadays, like back in the past, "i hope the Russians love their children, too".
Хржановский the first time in my life I traveled to a former URSS country in 1997 (Ukraine), I didn’t expect to like anyone. I was proven to be wrong and at first o was shocked and then I started liking the people I met more and more. Very nice family people in both Ukraine and Russia and absolute stunning beautiful women. So interesting to look back now, listening this song and remembering how much I despised the Soviets. Greeting from Virginia 🇺🇸
All of us who lived our infancy and teenage years during the cold war do have an education about the danger that nuclear energy represents (not just nuclear weapons).
I was a teenager during the 80's and I remember it too well! matter of fact I was only 16yrs old when this song first came out on the radio I still remember how I felt listening to this message in this song. It inspired me to get involved and to try and make a difference in other's lives.
I was a Soviet Citizen, u destroyed my country, my home, my army, my money, my life, my wife was killed in emeutes, so I pray every day to your country (США) burns.
I was in ninth grade and it was in 1984 when it came out. It's amazing how everything about it is valid in present day. It's one of those songs I remembered well.
There are two conditions of human beings. One being evil, the other being good. Choose what you want to become. The evil ones will face God’s judgement. If not here it will be in the hereafter. Who can escape from God. Destruction will come to those who seek it for others for no good reason. If I have a nuclear bomb I will never use it.
It's a moving song. I'm saddened by the hostility between the USA and Russia because I think that both American and Russian peoples have great values. They don't have to pay for the avidity of some of their political and economic leaders. Best regards from France (where the French love their children too)
