If people comment why don’t they listen to the video? The horse is a rescue that had a larvae infestation in a hoof wound, it must be very difficult in humid conditions to keep those kinds of issues at bay.

I happened to get the change to help on a small farm. I got to clean up horse. He was 27yrs old retired. But he was so happy to be in Hawaii. Only problem was wet most of the time. He got a infection in rear foot. I learned to clean it trim and dress it. First time by myself it was both very rewarding and very cool. Love you 4 legged friends. God Bless you All 😊.

You can see the formation of the frog showing in the hoof now. The large deformation in the outer hoof wall will need 9 to 12 mo to see how it grows out. I expect it will be significantly improved, but the question will be if the coronet band that sort of produces the hoof wall was damaged and if there will always will some kind of deformation in the outer hoof wall. No matter what this will be time and many trims to bring the hoof back to the proper shape and angle as it grows out. IF the horse was under my care the farrier would be out every 4 to 6 weeks to trim or balance and check the hoof for the next 12 months and it would be a lot of work to make sure the hoof did not get filled with manure, mud, etc. as it has that crevice.
@poisonapple6138
@poisonapple6138 Год назад
That frog doesn't look too bad at all compared to the rest of the hoof. Makes me a little more optimistic for this poor mare's outlook. I'd be curious to see imaging of this hoof, I wonder what's going on inside.

My buddy's horse that I used to care for escaped her fence and found the ONE PIECE OF TIN IN THE ENTIRE YARD (we had it nailed down originally, but the hurricane had removed it and we hadn't gotten to that part of repairs yet) and sliced her leg open and the start of the hoof from one side to the other (we were so grateful she didnt cut tendon and stuff). My buddy called me in a panic at like 2AM when she was checking on the horses and I rushed over. Many vet visits later, we were still not impressed with that escape artist. She recovered fine, though!

I totally agree. Being a farrier is hard work. I had to take a farrier class in college. We had to take frozen horse legs and trim the hoof then make a horse shoe from a straight bar. We had forges and heated it up. I found a hoof that didn't need trimming and I selected that one. Making the shoe to fit then we nailed it on. It wasn't easy. I appreciated the farrier after this class.
