It’s not so much a formula, it’s working with the weave of the fabric instead against it so the stitches can’t slip, no matter how thight you pull them. I do that because even though I stitch in hand, my tension tends to be a bit tight. Also with the sewing method they slip easier. And it doesn’t matter if you do individual or a row of back and forth, confetti or block stitching. That method works always. Just some extra information to you wonderful video😉
@StitchinMommy

Thanks Jemima! I think I do have an advantage in that I just do the poke and stab method. I'm sure you've figured out how to "read" the fabric easily at this point in your stitching career - it's still seems hard to me. I paid attention to the weave when I tried basketweave stitch and it was tricky on such tiny fabric to see which way the weave was going.

I purchased all 4 montages, but I got the kits that Janlynn makes. I am seriously considering doing them on a white linen because mine come with a fabric that looks like burlap. I am newer to cross stitch, and I have purchased a couple of patterns from you. I bought the temperature Tree kit from you and I am loving it. It’s the first time stitching on something other than Aida, and it’s like butter pulling the needle and thread through! I never knew how much fun this could be and relaxing! Thank you!
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 8 месяцев назад
That's true! Fabric can make all the difference in our enjoyment of a project. I have seen some stitchers do those kits on a tan mottled fabric, since it kind of mimics the look of the original artwork. But, even if you keep the same color and just swap from kit Aida to linen, you could have a nicer experience. The fabric you got in my kit is a 28 count Lugana, which is an evenweave. Linens can sometimes be stiffer than evenweaves, depending on the brand, so you could try looking for Lugana when looking for fabric if you're enjoying that kind. :)

How do you decide if you are going to do 1x1 stitches or tent stitches? Is it just what you are feeling at the moment? I'm doing this picture, too. I'm doing 25 ct lugana and I'm doing tent stitches. Just curious.
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 8 месяцев назад
Sometimes I decide strictly based on size or my desire to be speedy. But sometimes I factor in the type of picture it is. I feel like some designs are better suited to a full cross if they have a more illustrated look to them. I'm sure it doesn't make a huge difference, since the pixels are so small. :)

Nice to see you poke with thumb and middle. I feel odd flipping my fingers on every stitch. I do the same as you but and feel more normalized because I usually see many others poke with thumb and index.

I enjoyed watching you stitch! Question for you, when doing the typewriter method how do you finish off the thread when there are no other stitches nearby? Thank you
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 8 месяцев назад
I do keep that in consideration when I am counting far away from other stitches. I will either tie the thread off before heading off into the great unknown, or I'll make sure I have left enough tail to come back to "land" to tie things off.

I do enjoy watching people stitching. You don't have to carry on a conversation for me. Oh my goodness! I have so many HAED patterns in my wish list and in my cart. I also have many PDF and paper patterns from them. My DD on Sunday, just started Eragon from HAED. This pattern has 416,350 stitches! This is her real 2nd cross stitch project. (Her first project was scattered to the wind when she moved from our home to the apartment.) Sunday I also restarted Gone Fishin' from HAED. It only has 252,900. I just didn't like the fabric. I have hundreds of cross stitch patterns and kits that I've put together. The same goes for quilt kits and patterns.

If you search for "Double Sided Thread Organizer" on Amazon, there are lots to choose from. I'm not sure exactly which one I got, since it's been so long: www.amazon.com/s?k=double+sided+thread+organizer&crid=PX0LTS5BWJGT&sprefix=%2Caps%2C228&ref=nb_sb_ss_recent_1_0_recent These were originally designed to store sewing thread, so it's helpful to search for them using the term "thread" instead of "floss". I hope that helps!

Hi again, Sarah. I loved seeing the video and watching you stitch. I learned from you to go under other stitches, on the back. I had never done that before. I have always stitched with a hoop. You make stitching in hand look easy. You do such a great job. See you again soon. Have a great weekend!
@karladenton5034
@karladenton5034 8 месяцев назад
I stitch on scroll rods and I always do one stitch at a time. In addition to a gentle stitch tension, if you try to put as many diagonal movements of thread on the back as possible it helps with the 'slippage'. You don't want to 'conserve thread' on an over one piece because you need to maximize the places you can travel, start and end off.

This was terrific Sarah . I asked at one time and to see your back and see how you do it instead of just telling us was great. Question : do you stitch the same way on linen and when doing tent ( leg wise). Thanks
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 8 месяцев назад
I stitch pretty much the same way on all my projects. You can even see me stitch on a couple projects on linen on previous Stitch With Me videos: ru-vid.com/group/PL54kifyea7N2G56--hvipIY--eftvdUg2 The one where I demonstrate Wisper thread and the one where I stitch on Villa Mirabilia are both on linen. When I'm stitching a half stitch, I just stitch the first leg of my X and don't come back to cross it - so technically, the finished stitches end up with their "top leg" going the opposite direction as my full crosses. You can see some half stitch projects on this playlist in the videos about QS Iris, Knitting Woman, and the ones demonstrating half stitch column parking and half stitch on 40 count. I hope that helps!

I've really enjoyed stitching along with you 😄 It's fascinating to see other stitchers' methods, and I do a lot that's similar to you, like stitching in hand. My brain hates any long distance cross country though 😂 It was also really encouraging to me to see you do this as I've been wanting to do a stitch with me but unsure of the best way to do it and if I needed to go for 2 cameras so I could have my face on camera at the same time as my stitching. Having watched you, I think it works great just with the one camera on your stitching. So thank you ❤
@StitchinMommy

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, I find that people seem to enjoy this angle because the back-facing camera does a better job of picking up details than the front-facing one I use during my update videos. I did invest in a clamp with a long, adjustable arm, so that I could get the camera directly over my stitching. I used to jury-rig a small bendable tripod onto my shirt in my early stitch-with-me videos, and this is SO much better! :D
