Thanks. I totally thought one over two was doing your line one way using two threads then heading back the other way with only one strand of thread. Glad I watched the video!

Yeah that'd be really hard, you'd have to constantly keep rethreading your needle and I'm not sure what you'd do with the extra strand at the back. Glad the tutorial helped! 😊

I cant imagine ever wanting to stitch on linen. For me personally I think it would take the joy out of cross stitching. I love my aida. Thank u for the video!

You're very welcome, and linen is lovely to work on. It's got a beautiful texture and a looooot more range in colours (plus it's way easier if your pattern has a lot of fractional stitches). It also has a beautiful subtle sheen that Aida doesn't have. But if you're happy with Aida, that's fine. 😊

@@peacockandfig I stitch on linen. I must be the only person who has a tough time stitching on 14-count Aida. I end up piercing threads all the time. I can stitch on 16-count Aida and up OK. I find linen so much easier. I am always counting 2, but once I have some stitched done I just have to eyeball it. We are all fortunate we have so many fabric choices these days!

Hi - in the example of the 2 over 2, why didn’t you skip a block before starting the 2nd stitch? Cuz normally after the 1st stitch you would skip a hole for 2 over 2 I am thinking? Sorry I’m new and just trying to get a routine down and love your videos! Thanks again!
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 9 месяцев назад
Hi there! I'm not sure what you mean by "normally you'd skip a hole," you do your stitches in one colour either right next to each other horizontally or vertically (in general it doesn't matter which direction you travel across your project, and it's ok to switch back and forth). If you were skipping a block, you'd have to backtrack to do that stitch at some point, and the backtracking would make counting where you are in the pattern potentially confusing, and you'd end up using up way more floss. 😊

Thanks for all ur videos, have you tried pre printed patterns?
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 4 года назад
Hi Tiko! Do you mean stamped patterns, where the pattern is printed directly onto the fabric? No I haven't, for a few reasons. Those need to be made in a factory, so the designs are often not very modern, you're not going to find modern designers providing their designs in a stamped format as they require too much infrastructure to produce. Also, those often come as part of a kit, and the fabrics and floss used are sometimes not very good quality, they can be scratchy to work with. I've heard that also sometimes the quality of the printing isn't very good, so the pattern is actually very hard to follow and very frustrating. I've also found that a lot of the art used on stamped patterns (not all) is stolen art, and the kit has been produced overseas where they don't care about copyright law (or paying the original artist). So those are my reasons why I haven't done a stamped pattern. There are occasionally nice (and legal) ones you can find, but there's a drastically wider range of patterns available as printed or PDF patterns, where you are following the chart yourself. 🙂

Thanks for the info! Is there a way to reverse the formula? I want to take one of my own pics to stitch on 28ct linen but I have yet to figure out how big the pic should be. I got the 15 x 18 inch….any suggestions?
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 2 года назад
Hi Tanya! If you're using software, that will calculate things for you. Like you'll be able to set the thread count size (and it depends if you're stitching over 1 or over 2 on the 28 count), and then play with the finished size. The bigger the finished size, the more detail the software can capture from the photo. 😊

@peacockandfig 4 года назад
Hi Marnie! Yes you can stitch on Aida, but if the pattern has any fractional stitches (like quarter stitches), those are much harder to do on Aida. It's possible, but harder. 🙂

I have a pattern that is 18count over 2 on linen but what Aida count should I use.
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 4 года назад
Hi there! I've never heard of 18 count over 2, those would be huge stitches (equivalent to 9 count, which I don't think exists, the biggest I've heard is 11 count Aida). And 18 count would be Aida, linen and evenweave doesn't come in that big of a count. But it doesn't matter what fabric you use, use whatever fabric and whatever count you like. For beginners I usually recommend 14 count Aida (and 2 strands of floss for 14 count), it's the easiest to find in shops and the holes are big enough to easily see what you're doing. The only thing that changes with the change in fabric count is the size of the stitches, and the finished size of the project (and how much floss you might use, but that wouldn't be a huge variation). The actual design won't look any different on different thread count fabrics, except it will be bigger or smaller depending on what you choose. 🙂
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 4 года назад
Plus, I have a feeling if your pattern says 18 count over 2 on linen, that's a typo, it should say 28 count over 2 (which is the same size as 14 count Aida over one). I've never seen 22 count evenweave, it's used a lot in hardanger whitework embroidery, but usually linen starts at 28 count. 🙂

@peacockandfig

It depends on the look you're after Jane, I've used one strand on 32 count linen (stitching over two) because I wanted an airier look to the stitching. 😊

@peacockandfig 4 года назад
Yes, 11 count is easier to see, but it's also far less common. I'd keep trying with 14 count, you can get magnifying lights if you have any kind of vision issue (or use a low level reading glass to help magnify the holes just a tiny little bit. 🙂

If going over 2 on adia how many threads do you use
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 6 месяцев назад
You don’t usually go over two on Aida, then your stitches will be massive. Just choose a different thread count of Aida, like if for some reason you do want really big stitches then go with 11 count, stitch over one, and use three strands. Aida doesn’t look nice if you stitch over two, the texture is less conducive to over two than linen or evenweave as they have a nice even fine texture, whereas Aida is kind of lumpy and the holes are more noticeable. 😊

If a pattern uses 28 ct jobelan and uses two strands of floss but doesn’t specify to stitch over 2 threads, should I assume it’s over 1? I really can’t tell from the photo of the finished design…!
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig Год назад
Usually two strands would be over two, over one would end up being very dense and hard to work on 28 count. 😊
