Hey man I embrace my Proto-Indo-European roots, but I am also Native American as well (Blackfoot and Cherokee). I may not embrace my Native heritage that much, but I acknowledge it. :)

I also like to speculate what it would be like if the PIE peoples and the Native Americans met. I mean the PIE peoples were pillagers, but I think it would have been cool to see what the "White Men" culture used to be like before the plague that is Christianity.

@the antiquity goth, I believe they would get along very well. Finns got along with them very well, even made marriages with them. (I recall there was even a word for the people of mixed marriages between Natives and Finns.) There was one Swedish settlement in the new world. Near this area in the modern world, there was until recently a sign on a tavern near: "No Finns or Indians allowed", which had been there for ages. The Swedish settlement was largely inhabited by Finns, since they were considered by the crown pioneers, and they indeed were such. Finns farmed using burn-clearing and lived in forests, had all kinds of primitive habits and customs, they very primitive and barbarian indeed.

I wanted to study ancient and medieval history, but as an older student [I was 21] I managed to get myself talked out of it by the tutor who interviewed me at Cardiff uni.

The whole Mahabharata is a must-read especially for anyone who enjoys martial epic such as Iliad. It's so long that an abridgement is the best way to start, and I'd recommend the John D. Smith abridgement that moves between summary and actual translation of important parts.

Hi Goran. If you're interested I could do a video on some of the books I have read in the past regarding Slavic beliefs; keep in mind many of these books have been in Polish, however. Where are you from? I could try to compile some sources in your native language if I can find any.

Well, if you're interested in reading about the beliefs and mythology of the native Slavic faith, I would suggest first getting familiar with the founding fathers of studying Slavic folklore & mythology, i.e. A.N. Afanasjev, V. V. Ivanov & V. N. Toporov; then I suggest having a look at the works of Boris Rybakov (Iazychestvo drevnykh slavian, "Ancient Slavic Paganism", 1981) and looking at the online archives of the fantastic academic publications, such as STUDIA MYTHOLOGICA SLAVICA (available through the Slovenian Academy of Sciences & Arts) and Folklorica (available through Kansas University). Henryka Czajka wrote a great book, "The Heroic Folk Epic of the Southern Slavs", but I believe it has only been published in Polish. Adrian Ivakhiv studies Slavic paganism, and he (among with other scholars whose works I've read such as Aleksander Gieysztor and Jakub Zielina) seem to more or less agree with the theory that the majority of Slavs followed a pantheon which fits into Georges Dumézil's trifunctional hypothesis. Even scholars agree that the deities of all the Indo-European tribes (whether Slavs, Balts, Anglo-Saxons, Norsemen, Greeks, etc.) were, to a certain degree inter-changeable and all served as role models which explained and looked after the tripartite division of society into castes (the priests/shamans, the warriors, the farmers). Now, guess which Middle-Eastern division founded around the year 0 A.D. mimicked this tripartite faith in order to appeal more to native Europeans? ;) Anyway, I know this is kind of a chaotic list. I've only really started building my RU-vid channel and for about 5 more months I'll be uploading very rarely, but some of the videos I plan to make in the future will be about Slavic mythology and native faith (filling in the gap left by Survive the Jive? :P)

Goths are not very Indo-European (except for language). According to genetic studies made on Wielbark culture in Poland, main Indo-European paternal lineages (R1 branches) were absent among East Germanic tribes, and they were mainly I (native European) and G (Neolithic farmer).

Martin, R1b is Indo-European, and its various branches were found in ancient DNA of all three principal Indo-European cultures (Corded Ware, Bell Beakers, Yamnaya).

Martin Schaedler it is, over 90% of yamnaya finds belonged to R1b, and they brought it into Western Europe.

I think it depends on what a culture considers characteristically masculine or characteristically feminine. A culture that considers contemplation to be the characteristic masculine quality might see the moon as being male, and this would probably be reflected in a priestly culture (the moon and the night time are symbolically associated with contemplation). A culture that held up action as the characteristic male quality would consider the sun more masculine, and this would be reflected in a aristocratic and war-like culture. Just speculating.

Could be that Northern people see the night as more powerful because of the cold, so they see the moon as masculine. While Romans, Egyptians etc see the day as more powerful because of their climate
