Modifications to an original takes away the charm but your modified Ford A is more driver friendly in modern traffic which has great benefits. I like both.

I have a babbit bearing 31 hudson 8 coupe 76K miles still good oil pressure (yup they had oil pumps, and roller cams). Engine never taken apart. Like all bearings keep the oil clean, problem is finding a shop to redo them. Also pre 70s engines didn't last due to bad oil, not bad engineering or alloys. My engine builder said my yblock engines will easily do 250K miles with zinc oil. As to stock vs mod. I wouldn't alter the Hudson because it keeps up with city traffic and way too cute to goof up, I did put proper lights on it and keep the mechanical brakes adjusted. But I did update my 32 4 door essex running gear/suspension because if I hadn't it would have ended up in a scrap yard in 10 years despite being extremely rare and in good condition. The kids don't want them, museums are closing and garage space too valuable for static art cars. They were built to drive, I'm in Renton, someday perchance to meet.

Some cars deserve to be left "how they were". Like your Hudson for instance. Sounds like a cool old car. I find, that with how common model As are, that I'm really not ruining anything by making a few changes and lots of times, my modifications are less intrusive than some of the things done to these old cars over 90+ years of service. Hopefully we'll see ya sometime. We're gonna be at good guys, if you go.

Right on!! Cars are no good if one dont drive em. So many owners think everyone down the road will want and pay big $ for them They need to wake up!!!! Even present gens dont want to drive own a car and if they did they want an ev with all th egadgets. Even my nephew said he would be embarrassed to be seen in my 67 Camino...but he wanted to know what torque felt like. He had a 4 door jap car. lol Is there a hudson forum where someone can direct you to a rebuilder? Never knew they had roller lifter cams

It's definitely a real sweet heart. It's not getting modified. Fun to have them both ways. It may be going back to its previous owner, as he misses it. I hope he'll at least be pleased with how much better it runs now after a little work. Anyways. Even though we don't agree on everything, I appreciate you watching and the comments! We'll play with more stock stuff in the future. So don't think we don't appreciate them in all forms!

My dad was pretty good at dialing in the timing on our 29 Tudor....I still have it and a collection of vintage speed parts I'll be adding soon. Dad's first car was a 31 delux roadster with a Winfield head and B carburetor that he bought in 1940. Edit; I'm in Woolley, so just a couple hills away. Edit#2; What ring and pinion are you running in your PU? I would think with double the HP, you should be able to run the 3.25 ratio no problem.

Ya know Matt ------ looking at Doug's truck ----- being -- SO -- original and in pretty good shape ----- I think I would leave it all original too ---- as you said --- the paint is in good shape for all these years ---- and the big thing ----- I don't see a lot of ROT ---- if any from your camera view ----------- And your truck --- you got the STANCE --- the Big and Littles --- and hopped up motor ------- Something I caught you saying ----- you are --- STILL --- running Babbit Bearings ---- aren't those poured bearings --- low RPM and not much of a load put on them? And don't they just kind of start coming apart --- little pieces of Babbit here and there in your pan and if not caught early ---- a Rod through the side ------ Yes ---- it is Good here in the N.W. ----- maybe 90 or so now and then ---- BUT --- 117 in the South ---------- I Don't Know ------- Thank You for the video ---- Have a Good Week ---- Rodney

If the babbitt is an incorrect mix, they'll fracture. They really should come apart, unless you're really beating the snot out of it. Hope you're staying cool Rodney!

It’s hard to beat hydraulic brakes. Nothing like good brakes when you need them. Those old rod brakes are hard to keep adjusted. In an emergency stop you really have to “stand on” those rod brakes.
@Seattle_Speed_Shop
@Seattle_Speed_Shop Год назад
Definitely. I much prefer the juice brakes. But find that good mechanicals do work decently. But like you said, they require a fair amount of maintenance and a bad system can be a real mess.

I wouldn’t think you could drive at 60 mph with the stock bearings even if the engine is more powerful. Doesn’t the rpm exceed the engine’s capability?
@Seattle_Speed_Shop
@Seattle_Speed_Shop Год назад
They are designed to go 60 mph when new. In 1938 a model A roadster with a similar engine set up ran 136 mph at El mirage or Bonneville(can't remember which) and had top time for the meet.

Be a shame to turn that stock pickup into a hot rod
@Seattle_Speed_Shop
@Seattle_Speed_Shop 7 месяцев назад
The hot rod truck was a nicer start when I started converting it from a barn find stocker. It's had 6 holes drilled in it. I could turn it stock in a weekend. Hard to call that a shame in my book. A lot of the touring class cars have more mods than I've made to my truck.
@MrJeep75
@MrJeep75 7 месяцев назад
I dont like the stance of the hot rod, looks goofy, fronts to low, rear tires are to big
@Seattle_Speed_Shop
@Seattle_Speed_Shop 7 месяцев назад
Again...different strokes. That truck gets a lot more compliments on its stance, than I've ever gotten in a stock A. It drives and rides better than the stock wheels and tires as well. For as many miles I put on it. It's no competition. The hot rod truck is a far superior ride.
