I did a test this year … will my little garden keep me alive, the answer was yes, although I lost 38 lbs and didn’t feel starving, so I was eating way healthier . I learned to grow more so I can do my canning and dehydrating for winter till my spring crops start coming in…my garden was 50 X50 with 8 above ground beds along with 12 wicking tubs and 50 grow bags, I now have upped my grow bags and wicking tubs , it will keep me alive when food is scarce or to much $ I can afford, keeps me busy and I sleep like a baby, do what you can and start growing.

🥩 something to consider all the time not just for prepping- Oats are highly contaminated with glyphosate- and are hard for the body to digest. Sourcing high quality, glyphosate free and sprouted oats is a better option. Costco sometimes carries them! Azure does as well.

Oats are not "contaminated" with glyphosate in the accidental sense, they are purposefully sprayed in the field where glyphosate is used for drying them quicker in the field to harvest them faster, completely unnaturally. In this case glyphosate is used as a dessicant. Glyphosate is sprayed on all those lentils, as well as hard beans, peas, wheat, etc @wickedprepared

Here is my preferred list of just the frugal, very basic, dry foods for emergency food storage: whole grain wheat (any variety), rolled oats, white rice, dry pasta made from white flour, dry brown lentils, dry pinto beans, dry black-eyed peas, powdered nonfat milk, granulated cane sugar, culinary salt, pure olive oil or pure coconut oil and some form of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid power usually costs the least per daily dose). I would also plan on grinding my own whole wheat flour with a grain mill. Naturally, I would also use whatever fresh or canned or frozen foods I happen to have to add interest and flavor to meals mostly made from basic food storage ingredients. Stir some ascorbic acid powder into a COOL drink (tastes a bit sour like lemon juice) because heat will destroy Vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for preventing scurvy. You must add Vitamin C to your diet if you are not eating enough raw fruits or raw vegetables than contain a good amount of Vitamin C and instead are living on dried food storage or canned foods or cooked fresh vegetables. I would also plan to use a cast iron skillet for some of my cooking to add a small dose of iron to my food. I would plan on sprouting some of the wheat grain for eating raw as a topping on plates of cooked food or as a sandwich filling ingredient in order to have the nutritional equivalent of fresh salad greens. The rolled oats can be soaked overnight and then served mixed with milk (made for powdered milk) and sweetened with some sugar for a simple no-cook breakfast. Stir in some peanut butter powder to boost the protein. Or cook some oatmeal porridge and stir in some regular peanut butter to boost the protein and serve along with milk and sugar. The powdered milk has both calcium and Vitamin D. The oats have plenty of dietary fiber. Whole grain wheat can be soaked overnight and then simmered the next day in a fresh batch of water for about 40 minutes until tender. This is the nutritional equivalent of brown rice, but the raw wheat grain stores far longer than raw brown rice. Serve cooked wheat grain with cooked lentils, pinto beans or black-eyed peas to make meal that has a complete protein. Drizzle some olive oil over each plate of food and season with a little salt. Both the wheat and the legumes have plenty of dietary fiber. Make whole wheat flour and also grind some rolled oats and some raw white rice into flour. Mix together to make multigrain flour. Find a simple recipe and use this flour plus other ingredients (salt, baking powder, cooking oil, powdered milk...) to make loaves or pans of quick bread or rolls or muffins. Serve with cooked and seasoned lentils, beans or peas for a meal that contains complete protein. Stir in a spoonful of bacon drippings to the lentils, beans or peas while they are cooking, and you will add both fat and a lot of flavor. Having fat in your diet is essential for healthy skin and for the body to be able to absorb and use some kinds of vitamins. Make a slow simmered, chunky sauce of cooked lentils or other legumes, canned tomatoes or tomato sauce, dried onion flakes, olive oil, salt and Italian seasoning plus whatever type of canned diced beef, Spam, chicken, tuna or salmon you have. The tomatoes will remove the fishy flavor of tuna and salmon. Serve over cooked pasta. Because the pasta is not a whole grain product, it is important to add the meat to the sauce so the meal will have a complete protein. Protein helps reduce hunger between meals and is essential for growing and repairing muscle tissue.

Had to comment so I don't forget about five minutes into the video - I've been saying this for decades, and so have others. Nutrients are so important and you see people doing these hauls and they're buying all these products that don't have the nutrition in them. They don't have the vitamins and minerals in them and they have a lot of sugar and corn syrup, which is horrible. It actually decreases the immune system and causes people to get sick with bacteria, viruses and fungus. Actually those type of things feed off of sugar and you see these people making all these desserts and buying all these cans of things that are unhealthy. I understand people have to eat, and they're gonna buy what they can afford. My very first suggestion is buy seeds! You can grow anywhere! I saw someone that has, and they're actually live in the suburb, have less than a third of an acre and it looks like they have 5 acres of food because it's grown all around their house. It looks like plants and flowers which it is but it's actually what you can eat so there's no reason people can't grow food no matter where you live .....if you're someplace that you live where it's cold you bring it in put a shelf in your house in the cooler months or winters or if you have a building put grow lights in there - there's no reason people can't grow their own food and that's the number one way people should get their food - you go out and you pick it. When making salads, just walk out cut my lettuce tops, pick a tomato, grab a pepper and cut some onion tops and come in to make my salad....that is the most 100% nutritious way that you can get food. Secondly, buying organic non-GMO and I could go on and on for hours. See has nurses we had to take semesters on nutrition over four years of being in college. Do you know how much training the doctor gets on nutrition? Four hours!!!! I don't even know if that's true anymore and most nutritionists are pushing the SAD, yes that's the acronym, SAD- the standard American diet which was changed in the early 70s and what they say not to do, we should be doing and what they say we should be doing we should not be doing- and most of the data online is not even correct. People need to get their hands on old books and do things the old fashion way and that's the way to go 😉

@@muddyshoesgardener that's exactly what I'm talking about and people don't even know they're walking by. I had a place on one of the canals on a lake, and it was just a lot in Leesburg and just on a small lot the amount of food that can be grown and of course there's orange and lemon trees and such down there. but the amount of food that can be grown just on that and then including that decently sized screened in porch- It's unbelievable. Definitely one of the many ways to go and food preparedness 😉

As a hot air balloonist we are out very early in the mornings with the pestiside sprayer planes. The ovetspray drifts right on over to "organic" farms. Certfied or NOT. It aint as "organic" as you think just like "free range". Two very silly terms for very duped people!!!! NOPE. Growing your own anything and everything, is the only way to truly know what youre gettin!!!!! No im not a farmer growing animals and i do grow in containers because i hav NO dirt (ok maybe a thimble full) only boulders and decaying granite (rocks) !!!!

Oatmeal is also a great add-in for homemade bread. (About a cup or so per batch.) It makes it softer and helps the bread resist mold longer. You can mix it in raw, pulse it in a blender to flour-consistency, or even work cooked oatmeal into your dough.

One more thing about the grains and yes, the bulgur and all the other grains are good to have a variety and definitely the whole wheat berries. I stock them in 5 gallon buckets however, on your grains, one really needs to get organic non-GMO. They are some of the most highly sprayed crops that exist and three others believe it or not are squash, zucchini and corn! So if you you're gonna buy those type of items and want the most nutritious and non-chemical sprayed or modified - organic is the only way to go 🤠🌴🦋🎃

Thing is these organic farms are located next to reg farms so overspray drifts to "organic" i kno i see it here. So "certified" or not , you still hav no idea what youre getting and paying extra for

The other thing I just thought of and you may get to it on the video is that people are using toxic oils to cook with like canola and corn oil don't ever use that to cook with! Just a few examples would be extra virgin olive oil, and when you look at the ingredients on the back if it's coming from more than one country don't buy it. I've seen some very expensive, extra-virgin olive oil and it's got eight different countries it's coming from why do they do that? Well, there's a reason I won't go into it here. So make sure it comes from one source, one country I actually found some extra virgin olive oil from California. That's the only place it came from nowhere else.. other examples are coconut. Oil is excellent for so many things to have in your house and also avocado oil. So if you got canola oil or corn oil, are these vegetables get them out of your cabinet use them outside for a fire or something else but I would never ever ever cook with those types of oils. It's very toxic and harmful to your health .🤠🌴🦋🎃

For me i pressure can all beans in qts, 7qts at a time, so they hav the needed water for later instead of dehydrated. Dehydrated would be 2nd choice. But i also use the water beans soak in. I do dehydrate almost all frozen veggies and some fruits. I dont hav a freeze dryer do hav cans of FD foods ive gotten over the years on sale!!!! I use avocado oil for cooking.

I get THE best prices for my pantry of healthier foods by shopping at the salvadge stores. We have several amish ones close to us. One new one has a lot of organic and healthier options. Close dated but I don't mind. Especially when it's 10% of the cost.

We like jar red peppers but they are pricey in California so I keep 6 jars on the shelf. I do stock small jars of diced pimento which go well with white sauce meals like ala king. We shelf the jars next to jar and bag meals to grab if I was out of peppers when making the meals up. More great info thanks.

Very good information! I'm donating meals in a bag as much as possible this winter and also including a tip sheets to please incorporate lentils or fish etc in their diet for health. Canned chicken and canned meats often have sodium phosphate in them (Walmart and Costco). It causes all sorts of side effects and is a type of fertilizer. If you get headaches after eating canned meats or deli meats, you might want to check for sodium phosphate. Also check for nitrite/nitrate preservative salts which are carcinogenic.

Great video Jara! I have been eating chia seeds for years. I make the gel..1 Tbsp chia seeds to 9 Tbsp water. Stir and put in fridge. I make mine in a 1/2 pint mason jar. Then it’s ready to add to smoothies or oatmeal. Lentils are great! The only thing on your list I have never tried and don’t have is the spirulina. Have a mental block or something with it🤣. Yes Azure Standard and Thrive Life are my two main sources. You inspired me so I just finished rotating my cans of beans and putting up several of my pastas in my new BH &G clear canisters. Wonder where I got that idea from?!?☕️☕️

Not sure where you live but peanut butter hardly lasts to the best buy date in Florida, and rarely beyond. Expiration date applicability is very climactically regional. Same with other oils.

Years ago (early 90s) I stopped eating canned salmon because I kept finding backbones and scales in it. I'm not sure if that's normal or if it was peculiar to that brand (I don't remember the brand).

Finding backbones (pieces of vertebra) in cans of salmon is perfectly normal. They’re soft…and add calcium. Or, if you like, you can simply remove them. Finding fish scales in cans of salmon is not normal.

You had a picture of an organic pumpkin next to a regular brand .! Are you saying THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME? Organic has strict growing processes, non GMO’s and no pesticides. They better be different because I pay more and I do not want the toxins.

Most people won't live long enough through SHTF for long term health to matter. And I hate to bust your bubble, but your version of "healthy" is based on the Standard American Diet, which is not healthy at all. But gut actually does not NEED fiber and it's actually bad for many people's guts. Starches and grains in particular are really not "healthy" exactly and it's for debate if our bodies have evolved well enough since it's only been a part of our diet or a staple for 12,000 years (and that was for the plebes, not the elites of each society). The food pyramid with grains at the top is absurd and is likely there due to payoffs by Big Pharma. Also, stop the "detoxify" bit. The Liver is the biologically the only thing that can detoxify your body. As for rotating supplies, the PITA part of that is many truly healthy items and great prepper foods are not foods I like or would want to consume unless necessary. So stocking them when they expire eventually is literally throwing money away to prep and SHTF never happens. Maybe some people can force themselves to eat stuff they don't like, I'd end up throwing it away 😂. When "Shelf stable foods" is mentioned, I often see people who don't take their environment into account. I've seen Florida residents stockpile foods that have zero chance of being good for long after the grid goes down. "Shelf stable" isn't 105 heat index for 3 straight months. I don't even bother with large quantities of long term food storage in Florida, it's mostly pointless unless you want to live off of rice or spend a fortune on freeze dried (or a freeze drier).

No "bubble busted" here 🤷‍♀️ So are you saying you don't keep any food on hand in case of an emergency? I'm just curious what you do keep for a stockpile? I'm in Maine so heat and humidity aren't necessarily a factor .. not in comparison to Florida anyway 🤣 I also have a pretty good supply of freeze dried food and certainly didn't spend anywhere close to a fortune 😊

@@wickedprepared I keep no more than a months worth of Florida shelf stable food, but I'm not a good example. I live in a mid sized city (150,000) and in any SHTF scenario, staying in a city is a death trap, probably sooner rather than later, even though I'm more well armed and stockpiled than probably anyone in my liberal city. But I'm a redneck, grew up in the country, know how to survive in primitive conditions, and hate Florida. If SHTF, I'm loading up all my guns, ammo, survival/camping/backpacking gear, food, and 20 gallons of ethanol free gas I have stored and heading to my parent's house on a mountain in the Appalachians of Tennessee. If I catch it soon enough, I'll be fine. If it's already ugly, I'll likely die trying to get there. But I'd rather die trying than sweat my ass off in Florida waiting to die anyway. Storing food for me is for hurricane outages and short term, non-life threatening events. Anyone stockpiling food for 25 years who lives in a city is in denial about the reality of their likely fate.

It's already here there's nothing to wait for and here's the other issue is that no one knows how long they're going to live I'm 63 years old and 25 years from now I would be 88 I don't know if I'll even be here tomorrow but what I do know is that I have nutrient dense foods to eat that will keep me healthy while I'm alive. Having a 25 year shelf life for 10 year shelflife whatever it is it's just an added benefit. And yes, the SAD diet is horrific and it changed in the early 70s and the people that were actually studying nutrition and nutrients, were basically paid off at the university systems and everywhere else by the government to change it they were getting more grants and more money and that's when it changed you've probably read nourishing traditions by Sally Fallon and you probably know about the Fallon Institute but another good book is also eat right for your blood type and that's that he was done by a father and son a 40 year study and the research and I agree with it and I've eaten that way not 100% of the time by any means. But based on our blood type are DNA's or a certain way, and all blood types began as type up in the very beginning and then, as people got out in different parts of the world and meat and things weren't available, they were go to fruits and vegetables and nuts and blood types change throughout that process but yeah the crisis is already here it's just gonna get worse that's all I know people that say, I haven't seen through prices go up I don't see inflation really? They're liars there's no way that every single breathing person on this planet has not seen inflation. I don't care if they're billionaires they've seen it. So I just wanted to comment on no we're not waiting for it to get here it's here it's just not at its worst yet and again the shelf life is only an additional benefit.

I also live in Florida and we've had the lowest temperatures and just about any summer that I've lived here. Now the weather channel and weather nation will tell you different cause you know when they start talking about heat index rather than temperatures well, you know they're lying, but the last couple weeks I've had when does open nice breezes we've even been down into the high 40s low 50s and we're going into and much earlier what we call winter in Florida season. If you hate Florida, why do you still live here? Everyone has the decision to live wherever they want. We can always change our circumstances.... just saying And actually, if you know what's really going on the temperatures are going to switch should watch adapt 2030 and Dane Wigington who's the scientist about the changes it's actually going to be cooler in the south and warmer in the north it's just part of the natural cycle of the weather since the beginning of time

@@wasnevernurseratched439 You do realize it's mid October right? This is normal weather. I'm a native Floridian and my family settled in Florida in 1815, so don't tell me about the damn weather. It goes in cycles, years of it getting cooler earlier than other years and it swings back. That's nature. Humidity absolutely is factor when you consider the weather. I don't care what the temperature is, it's the humidity factor that determines what the real feel of the temperature. No, we don't always have a choice of where we live. I'm divorced and have shared custody of my daughter. I'm legally bound to my county unless I give up my custody. That is NOT an option. When she's an adult and on her own, I'm absolutely leaving this boring, flat, humid hell hole. That last part is cute. The north is not going to be hot and the south cold without a polar shift. And while that has happened, it's impossible to determine when, especially down to an exact year or even decade. They'd be lucky to get it right within a millennia. I get it, you're old and believe every stupid thing you read on the internet as long as it's contrary to the mainstream. I'm all for shitting on the corrupt mainstream, but I've studied history, weather changes/patters, ancient civilizations (and their relation to weather events, cosmic or otherwise, for 30 years. The one thing guaranteed is that no one can predict the changes and any changes to cause the type of shift you're talking about would have to be caused by cosmic level events so drastic that most are probably fucked anyway.
