I play several hundred folk tunes, but all by ear. Still a few like me so plenty of new tunes emerging each year. A very exciting time to be a folk musician. Not sure where you are from, but you will find folk right across the UK. My old morris team went back about 450 years and had their own tunes. You just need to get out and about more.
so i just heard old man of hoy never heard it before.. in ma puff , this is so beautiful, I doubt this generation will ever feel the magic of what i remember.. i'm in my thirties and nothing like this happens anymore, no scottish songs or dancing in schools anymore....nothing relatable to our already scarse heritage anymore. my irish foster mother told me to learn scottish gaelic and read up scottish history in the library because we will be long dead before the irish. i was ten. imagine trying to read scots gaelic at ten lol nevermind pronounce it. so hard to get gaelic or even piping lessons here. ex patriots seem to be doing much better than us natives. alba gu brath. sorry foster ma xxx
