I grew up in Stockport. Much has changed, but many of the sights are very familiar. I even had a Saturday job on a stall on Stockport Market. I also endured the misery of being dragged to Mass at St Joseph’s church. I remember as a small child peering though the railings on the bridge down onto Underbank. Extra thrill if the clock was chiming. I also remember the stench on a Tuesday when they were roasting the hops at Robinson’s brewery. The ‘old buildings’ were the Town Hall, (the white wedding cake one) and the one opposite used to be Stockport Infirmary. I had my appendix removed there. I believe that the building is now offices.
I am sorry that there are a few missed in the video, e.g. Hat works museum, Merseyside canal, railway & bus station, etc. If possible, please bring my best regards to Big Dan when you visit the Friday market.
Not as lively as when I lived there in the 1950/60's. Too bad the narrator doesn't do a bit of research first so he can comment on Underbank , the town hall and Stockport Infirmary on the A6. Not to mention the site of the old Tabernacle club where we kids saw all the great music acts b4 they got really famous. Remember seeing Cat Stevens, Small Faces, Amen Corner and numerous others. MerseyWay looks a bit desperate with lots of closed stores. Stockport market used to be packed. St Mary's church has an interesting history.
Thanks for the information. As stated in my other videos, I don't tend to do research on the area. That isn't what this channel is focused on. I play it by year, and gain knowledge from my viewers, subscribers, and people I come across while doing my videos.
