IN 2020, Holly was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease. Speaking to Truly, Holly explained: "Ulcers line your colon and are very inflamed. So whenever you eat food, it'll make the ulcers more sensitive and cause bleeding." Initially prescribed with suppositories to ease the pain, they didn't work for Holly and soon things took a turn for the worse. "I was at a point when I couldn't get off the floor because I was in so much pain. I couldn't move, I couldn't wash, I couldn't eat, I couldn't do anything," Holly said. Rushing to hospital, Holly was told that her colon was about to burst and she had no choice but to have an ileostomy, where surgeons created a stoma. Now relying on a permanent stoma bag, Holly started sharing her story on social media, in a bid to normalise having a stoma. She declared: "What I want people to know about people with a stoma bag, is that they're not just a stoma bag. They're a person and they can do whatever they want to do in life." In this episode of Shake My Beauty, we'll see how Holly styles her stoma bag and why having one doesn't mean that you have to change your fashion choices. Reflecting on her journey to body positivity, Holly said: "You have to think that everybody in the world has insecurities. So if you're comparing yourself to the people that you see on Instagram or in magazines, even they don't look like that! Nobody is perfect, everybody has got their flaws and imperfections."

UC and Crohn's are diseases you don't wish on your worst enemy. This woman is a superhero!

I have a dear friend who almost died. She had the stoma surgery in order to save her life. She still has digestive issues, but she is able to live her life relatively freely. Before the stoma, she was a SLAVE to the disease. You're 100% correct. I wouldn't wish this on ANYONE.

IBS too. It's not as severe as Chron's or UC, but can be rather painful. . .especially during a flare up.

I don't understand why anyone would give this woman a hard time for looking good... She's not just dressing up to show off and be sexy. She is showing off her confidence in going out in the world (and not staying inside at home, ashamed and afraid of others' opinions). Like who cares if she has lip injections, or any other plastic surgery...? I mean get a life or get some healthy perspective. This woman is incredibly brave, strong, courageous and inspiring for sharing her story. There should be nothing but love for her. Go spread your negativity to someone who is shallow, fake, etc., not this strong, beautiful woman.

Hey! Thank you for sharing your story!! I got diagnosed with UC in 2011. I have a jpouch. I've had a ton complications. I recently found out I have Crohn's. I'm working towards getting healthy and figuring more things out. I enjoy knowing other stories ❤. Congratulations on the baby!!

@@Ane127there's reason I ask if you have Crohn's, a jpouch, or UC. We have crazy dietary restrictions. Each of us are different. We don't absorb as well as others either. I've been dealing with this disease for over 10 years. Although I appreciate your suggestion, it's not one size fits all. If there was a magic fix, I'd be all over it.

In this case, it seems she's more interested in showing others (especially others dealing with this incredibly painful and debilitating condition), that you can look good, and be confident going out in the world, despite having a stoma bag. It's a powerful, courageous and inspiring message. I don't think she's at all like girls who dress up just to look cute and show off. She has a great, strong personality behind a beautiful face. This is just my humble opinion.

I have given this woman a huge hat tip and all others who need to endure a stoma bag. Yes! It saved my life (almost 9 years ago; yeah, I got mine on 12/24/14), but I'll be kind and say it was HELL: ON EARTH. Thankfully, it could be reversed in my case, but the memory is indelible in my mind. So, best of luck with the little one, and I hope your stoma doesn't give you the trouble mine gave me.

When your ulcers in your colon are so bad and you have bowel movements after, it can still cause so much pain and swelling. Sometimes, it’s a decision to just remove all the inflamed lower intestines so it doesn’t happen anymore. The bag fills with your bowel movements (Poo) and you have to change it every few days or when full depending on diet. You can still have s*x so that’s how she is pregnant

(Hopefully this doesn't come off wrong,) I see stoma bags kinda the same as an IV port. I get squeamish, but it's mainly feeling bad for their past/current pain. We're all human and it's just medical care. ❤‍🩹
