A few of the things I did that have helped me get back to working, exercising and socialising.

Your videos have been so helpful! It would be great to see an update on how you’re getting on now. I’m an IBD sufferer in a bad flare. Trying to mentally prepare myself in case surgery is the next option for me. Your videos have given me hope!

Most excellent videos. Really helpful. Thanks very much for sharing your experience. I wish that you'd post more, but I hope that it means you are fully back to an active rich life. I'm 2 weeks post surgery. So your story really lifts me up. I'm much older than you are, but was quite active prior to the illness and surgery. takeCare.

glad you're back, i had my surgery on the 11th of jan and your vids have definitely helped me a lot because its the experience of someone similar to me. i'm young (21) and although i'm overweight due to prednisolone i would say i'm relatively healthy. i was wondering how was your experience before surgery? i had ulcerative colitis for 4 years and i know you had crohns and i'm aware both conditions are similar but its interesting to hear other people's experiences (if that's ok of course, i understand if you wouldn't want to) because for me the stoma has been absolutely incredible, i can actually go out now and not stress 24/7 about where the nearest toilet is, the recovery isn't easy but simply the fact i can go into town or take my girlfriend for a valentines meal or whatever has changed my life. if anyone is reading this comment unsure about stoma surgery i would say go for it! especially if you're like i was and stuck on a never ending cycle of prednisolone-> trying new medication that doesn't work -> prednisolone

Hey, really glad that you get some value from these videos, will keep making them if they make anyones life easier! don't worry about the prednisolone weight - its a mixture of water retention and also increased appetite, but comes off relatively quickly from my experience. Prior to surgery I was in quite a bad way (63kg, sleeping most of the day, bathroom 10+ times a day, had to quit work, couldn't sleep etc. can make a video on the specifics of it all if that would be interesting). So glad that you are living a good life with your stoma! You seem to have the right attitude, and going through this at 21 must be challenging so well done on staying positive. Am thinking of maybe having some conversations with ostomates, IBD sufferers, and other people from the community (doctors, nutritionists) on this channel on the future so if you'd be interested in sharing your experience then let me know and we can try and organise something.

Thanks for making this, I’m 2 months post surgery and am struggling to get back to activities. I’ll look into your Pilates recommendation. Thanks again!

hey ye I would definitely recommend some light pilates to start and give you the confidence. Also just walking and light exercise like swimming if you feel confident enough.

Love the videos Tom very helpful, I hope your still recovering well . I have Crohn's and had to have ileostomy surgery 3 weeks ago as the drugs wasn't working on me and I was losing too much weight I'm 6'1 and was 60kg before surgery I lost around 20kg in the last 6 months, I'm home now I still have pains but tobe expected after a 8 hour surgery, when did you start to feel "normal" pain free ? Also it would be really good if you done another video of life 1 year after surgery, a video of things that your done with your stoma 👍🏻

Hi Tom, thanks for this video - excellent to get a first hand honest account of dos and don'ts post surgery. Have my laparoscopic colostomy next week and this advise is invaluable. Just wondering if there were any specific core exercises which you found really helpful? Thanks again!

Hello Tom, thank you for the helpful video. I may be having this surgery sooner than later. Did you continue meds after the surgery? I hate to go through surgery and still have all the immunocompromised concerns. Argh! Thanks for the physio ostomy recommendation. I like to stay active but I’m a lousy athlete 😂
