Great review Eric. I think this is exactly what I'm looking for. I had Ulcerative Colitis 30 years ago in 1987. That's when I was diagnosed. I had a very severe case of it that was life threatening. So to make a long story short, After 3 months in the hospital, I had a total colectomy with reconstructive surgery in 1988. I had an internal pouch made from 30 cm of my small intestine. This worked great for 30 years till I developed a cyst (Dec 2016) near my rectum (damn near killed em, HA!!) that turned into a fisher. So I made the decision to go with an Ostomy. Mine is very much like yours in location, just over an inch above my belt line. I'm pretty sure the medium size StomaShield would be best for me. I'm very active, I ride motorcycles, snow ski, rollerblade, ice skate and play hockey, workout and many other sports. I'm also a heavy equipment construction contractor. So protecting my Stoma has been very much on my mind. The StomaShield looks like what I need. Plus I like the way it allows me to wear pants (jeans) tight enough with out cutting off flow. I live in Edmonton Alberta, Canada and the only way I can obtain this device is by ordering directly from StomaGear Inc. Also the information pamphlet that I got from my Stoma supplier shows an updated StomaShield. It has a wider belt, and refined shield. Do you have any experience with this new version Eric? Sorry for running on about my self, it's just that I'm kind of excited about getting this shield and it's just nice to yack at someone who can relate to what I'm talking about. Thanks for making the video, it has helped me immensely Eric. Cheers. Don McCaw Edmonton Alberta, Canada donaldgmccaw@outlook.com

Hey, Don! It's nice to hear from a fellow Canadian Ostomate! Thanks for sharing your story. I've had the updated Stomashield for some time, but haven't made a video on them. I did add photos to my written article: www.veganostomy.ca/stomashield-stoma-guard-inc-review/ The waist band is much improved and the shape has been optimized. I hope it works for you! It's a great product.

I wear this whenever I am traveling. Being “folded in half” in a car seat for many hours really helps flow to continue to my pouch.

You can order directly from the manufacturer www.stomagear.com/products/stomashield and they should be able to ship to Canada no problem. It looks like they are currently on sale, too.

I work at a meat packing plant and work on the striploin line on the saw. Before surgery i used my belly alot to move the saw slider. I am worried about when i return to work that the stoma and bag will interfere. Could someone please give me advice. I have a urostomy bag
@VeganOstomy

+MultiZorrozorro You'll definitely want to use a larger, flat guard if you use your belly to move things.

I have a temporary ileostomy and I got a prolapse. Does it hold the stoma in place ? Thank you in advance for your time
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy Год назад
I actually don't like using anything with a prolapse, since there's risk of injuring the stoma. Is it prolapsed all the time or only when you do something strenuous?

Great review. Is the guard recommended for water sports like surfing? If not, what would you recommend?
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 3 года назад
I think any hard stoma guard may be challenging to manage with water sports, but there is a product from StealthBelt that is designed specifically for what you're looking for: www.stealthbelt.com/neoprene-extreme-belt It does require that you wear your bag on its side, but that may provide benefits for surfing anyway so it's something to consider. Best to you.

I already have to wear what most people refer to as a hernia belt, but we are currently building one special for me. The reason I am looking for something like this is I have two ostomy's and I typically have to wear my urostomy in a pouch on the outside in order for it to drain properly and then I'm always worried about whether the colostomy will be able to drain properly if it goes under my belt. I'm a quadriplegic so I don't have to worry about moving around for sports, but if my urostomy doesn't drain properly it can cause a very serious medical condition which can result in my blood pressure shooting up. My long question is do you think I could where two of these on the same belt since my ostomy is our lined up at the same height?
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 8 лет назад
+Quadius6 I would suggest getting in touch with Brian at Stomagear.com and ask if this can be done. I only have one stoma, so I can't really say how comfortable or even how possible it is to wear two guards. Good luck!

I am curious do this dig into your leg or rise when you sit down?
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 6 лет назад
If you are wearing the large size then it might - I haven't found the medium and small size to be problematic, although I generally find that keeping my ostomy bag under my pants to be a little tight to begin with!
