Yeah….I’ve seen this a lot on RU-vid…..I’m a semi-retired professional musician….been supporting myself through music since 1964 with a masters in music comp and studied with Joe Pass in the mid 70’s and have seen many, many guitar videos on RU-vid and don’t think that I’ve ever seen more than one or two that didn’t knock me out, and if they didn’t, I wouldn’t hit the thumbs down. I guess “there’s no accounting for taste?”
Dear Chris, I know that this fantastic video is not a real lesson, but the arrangements you usually show and play are, in my opinion, the best guitar lessons that can be found on RU-vid. When I look for a new version of a song of a certain level, in Chord Melody, it means that I am not a newbie, so I don't need to be shown the chords one at a time, in a 20 minute video. Personally, I find your videos to be perfect: a nice shot, no words, and above all fantastic, perfect arrangements. There is no desire to show things that are too complicated for the sole purpose of showing off (but most of the times very challenging!), nor are there any arrangements that are too simple, just to attract beginners, and increase numbers. I have been following your channel for years, and as I improved with jazz and Chord Melody, I have always found the right videos here (in your channel), for all levels of difficulty. Never banal, always very swinging, very interesting ideas.. Guys, listen to me: this is how you learn to play Chord Melody the proper way, because you don't need someone to tell you all the chord positions, it's better if you try to copy what Chris plays, the lead parts etc., use your brains. And please look his face while he's playing Jazz Guitar: that's a big lesson, too. Also look at the other videos from Chris Whiteman, there are real lessons, too, and those are invaluable. Thanks Chris. This version of Savoy is wonderful. And the "solo" part.. Uao. Greetings from your fan Duke, from Turin, Italy. HI!! ⚡⚡⚡
Have been working on this for about a month and must say Thanks Chris . Really like it your solo is smooth and flows in to each part. Thanks for sharing
Decided to learn this tune, and then I've found this to base my arrangement off, , now I'm really happy that I did, gonna transcribe it 👍😁... Thanks Chris
Whoa, this is exceedingly impressive and awesome-especially, most especially, the solo! I've heard many renditions of this song, but this is by far the most superior, and the most swinging! (Especially that astounding solo!) :)
This is fabulous Chris, I've been having a go at this and it's coming along nicely, the swap over from pick to fingers though,😐 but again, love your playing and thanks for the vids.
Hi Chris, Really nice and smooth. Love the sound and playing ! I've bought some of your arrangements and I take a great pleasure to play these jewels :)
Lovely playing Chris fair play to you. A bit of a head scratcher the difficult parts. A transcription would be helpful keep up the good work and stay swinging!
thank you. Transcribing great players and repetition is the key. Transcribe something you like and play it thousands of times with attention to detail.
Chris, your playing is smooth, and complex, yet so pleasing. I have been playing jazz for many years, have learned many different techniques, theories, etc but still lack in putting it all together. Do you take on students? Thank you Ariel J. Quintela.
Yo, this is very easy to just DIG into. It's awesome! Question though. Is this a transcription or just you doing your thing? Also... Do you live in NYC?
I’ve got a 53 ES 125 myself which I haven’t been playing much these days (I fell in love with Vintage Japanese classicals), mind if I ask what kind of strings you put on your 125?
@@ChrisWhitemanGuitar thanks! I was wondering if the tension might be a bit much on such an old guitar. Mine had dried out and needed a fingerboard replane, refret, humidifying & a couple of braces reglued. I keep the old girl in the case now.
Hi Mila. I learned a lot from the Joe Pass chord solos book. It doesn't have tab though, only standard notation. Here is a link. bit.ly/JoePassChordSolos
Hi Chris! I truly enjoy your chord melodies and I admire your guitars. It seems that you also play Gibson ES 125T? Besides playing I build guitars on a hobby basis, and I am interested in building a ES 125T style guitar. But plans are hard to find, apparently - would you by any chance know where I could get them? Regards Erling
Brilliant, as always. Beautiful tone too. What kind of set up do you have to capture the tone so well on vids.? I assume it can't be just using a phone here? Anyway, excellent stuff!
