Seen Tom perform live three time ... blew the roof of the auditorium stompin along. .. We loved him!! . he was such a gifted and witty entertainer... A proud Canadian. RIP.
Man ( As a country boy at heart, ) I play about 70% of Tom's stuff out west here and it "ALWAYS" brings a smile to even the hardest of rocker's lol. My heart still hurts because he's gone it really does.
This one of "the best" 🔥 round the fire song ever written! We play it to get the crowd fired up and it brings em to their feet! Sung here by a legend in Canadian music!
I have literally viewed this clip hundreds of times since it was first posted some years ago. If any recording exemplifies the attribute I refer to as relentless optimism, this is it. Professor Connors had a remarkable gift for being able to celebrate the best in people, places and things which are often taken for granted. The joy of his recorded legacy is immeasurable and enduring. He is greatly, greatly missed.
Stompin’ was born in St. John New Brunswick. I am from Moncton . He was raised in Skinners Pond, PEI. I’ve been there too. Saw him only one time live in Fredericton NB around 1994. I was raised a lobster fisherman out of Shediac NB. We used to haul a 100 pounds of lobsters. Love Stompin Tom!
I understand that he was or was nominated but there was a disappointment on his part concerning so many Canadian artists who he felt had sold out to Nashville.
A lot of old timey classic talent was abandoned in the 80's, people like K.D. Lang helped to bring National treasures like Stompin' Tom back into the mainstream.
Say it isn't so! Stompin Tom you was the real Item! Not many are. Heaven is a livelier place with you there, but Canada is a sadder place now without you. Your music will live forever!! --Big Joe Mufferaw--
Pure Canadian culture, it's beautiful, makes a tear roll down me cheek and one down me leg too, and for those wooses that don't know what a gumboot cloggeroo is, it's a dance for Christ's sake. Boz.
During his run at the Horseshoe, he lived at the bottom of Ninth Street at Lake Shore Drive in Etobicoke. He drove a pickup with a wooden box on the back that said : Stompin' Tom Connors Star of Stage, Records, and Radio. Fresh Lobster and Scallops ( in Season ) Call XXX=XXXX
Sad to say that the Buffalo hotel in Red Deer AB Canada was demolished this week where this video was recorded I performed on this stage many times and was a bartender here many years ago.
Eh, Canada is in America. So is Mexico. So is the US of A. There have been many great Americans, some were Canadian, some were citizens of the US of A, some were neither.. think about those from the Republic of Texas or the confederacy, the Indian Stream Republic, and Mexico (none of which were part of the USA) or those who resisted the Europeans taking over their land... Geronimo, Tecumseh, Sitting Bull, and many others, who were MUCH greater men than the displaced Europeans who have taken over the continent now.
@@fixitmann6685 That's pedantic as fuck. 'CANADA' means community. North America is in the same global community so people from the USA are basically Canadian. That's the level of dumb shit you're saying. Canada treats its First Nations better than the USA too. Not a lot better, but still better.
Is it just me or do people tend to appreciate people like tom more after they pass away like I mean when he was alive this video for example might have had say 20 ,000 views and three weeks after his death have 69,000

I think it's an annual Festival .... that Stompin' Tom decided to write a s song about ... Are you from Canada? We've got some strange little festivities that go on here! lol Cheers,
A spin off of line dancing wearing clogs. Since the fishermen wear gumboots and are a very busy bunch they went dancing with gumboots on. Look for the cowsie dungsi clock song, it's based on fact that they do actually make them.
Listen to what Tom is singing ..... "Take her to the Gumboot Cloggeroo and we'll do a little gumboot cloggin' " He's talking about a festival....where they wear their gumboots, they dance and have a good time!
I'm from the east coast and a dance on a Friday or Saturday night is a time to have a good time maybe a few to many drinks and forget about the work week it like people from the city going to a club but we do it at a community hall with a live band they are fun.
Kevin, with a name like "Scotland" I do believe you are foreign... maybe of European descent, and not actually with ancestors from America? Eh, Canada is in America. So is Mexico. So is the US of A. There have been many great Americans, some were Canadian, some were citizens of the US of A, some were neither.. think about those from the Republic of Texas or the confederacy, the Indian Stream Republic, and Mexico (none of which were part of the USA) or those who resisted the Europeans taking over their land... Geronimo, Tecumseh, Sitting Bull, and many others, who were MUCH greater men than the displaced Europeans who have taken over the continent now.
I really appreciate the quirks of the old structure of RU-vid, and how so many of these comments from the past seem to be in response to no one in particular, but perhaps more like non sequiturs. Although, at times I wonder if I should laugh until I cry, or feel triggered, somehow becoming part of the non-specified group merely by reading through the comments. 😂
