Except that this song about Ms Lang was particularly embarrassing to listen to. I don’t recall her ever jumping around like a “rang-ee-tang”. Maybe Tom was thinking of Mick Jagger?
We met his niece by accident in a Quebec City Bar yesterday and by absolute fluke met her again in a resto/bar today. Her and her friend walked into the place minutes after we sat down. All four of us were absolutely shocked and delighted, although this morning I woke up and had this feeling we would bump into each other today. Lo and behold! We did and had a GREAT lunch together. What a wonderful world.
the problem with putting Stompin` Tom on as `background music` while I do other stuff... is I always end up sitting infront of the monitor watching him instead of doing my 'other stuff'
What a great video! I remember using Tom's songs to teach my Grade 5 class the capitals and trivia about our beautiful country .This was back in 1975. It helped that I had a picture of myself visiting with Tom at his home with my husband and his parents in PEI as they knew the family!
Saw him in 2012. It was amazing, sold out. There were people of all ages, toddlers to seniors, people of all musical types punkers, metal heads, and so forth. So lucky to have seen him, our dad loved Stompin' Tom. When were teens and grumbly aquiesced to dad playing him in car on trips we never realized how important he was becoming to us. Then we got older and now we all have fond memories of hearing him with dad tapping along. Many times now when we get together out come the Stompin' Tom tunes. It is like he became part of out family. Wish we had more like him.
A friend of mine in university wrote a song about Gretzky in the style of Stompin' Tom. What an honour to have him write a song about kd land but well deserved!!
Oh my goodness, I was there the night this was recorded and I did the casting for kd langs made for tv special too!!!!! I saw Stompin' Tom kick through his piece of plywood that night! And kd crooned some wonderful Patsy Kline tunes that night too. So great.
I've looked for Tom's music down here and you can't even BUY it in America as far as far as I'm aware. If it wasn't for youtube I wouldn't even know who this man is. God bless you Tom.
The saddest part about his death was the next day when I went back to school my teachers asked us Which canadian idol just died and I was the only one who raised my hand. No one new who he was. RIP.
@@Camman010 I M A PROUD MARITIMER AND ID WAGER 99% OF US KNEW AT LEAST ONE STOMPIN TOM TUNE JUST CAUSE YOU IGNORANT ONES FROM TA RAN TA DIDNT KNOW HIM WAS YOUR LOSS
What a beautiful song from Stomping Tom Connors to the great singer K.D. Lang and her song is just as enjoyable . R.i.p. Stomping Tom Connors and what a legacy you left behind your songs were all great and i still listen to them and I'm 76yrs. old . Saw you in concert here in Canada 🇨🇦 at around 15yrs. old and what a concert it was .
My sister cleaned the room Stomping Tom Connors stayed in and she was so thrilled he left a empty cigarette box and she took it as a sovereigner and I think he smoked Benson and Hedges cigarettes and I asked her what she did with the box the cigs came in she threw it away . If I would've got a hold of it I would still have it as a memoriam of the Late Great Stomping Tom Connors in a frame ... Message coming from Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
RIP Tom I have been a fan since the late 60s and will remain so for years to come. Thank you for all that you gave to Canadians and the world with your music.
@StompinAllan I think he's not on American radio, because they won't have him....for whatever reason. Canadian, maybe??? Folk hero here, maybe NOT so appreciated there... End of story..
1.8th like omg love it! Saw Tom at lulus Kitchener I was up front great concert. A fan threw a board on stage and Tom picked it up thanked him then realized he wanted him to sign it so he threw it down and stomped on it a few times and gave it back. He couldn't even talk the crowd was yelling all night RIP Stompin Tom Connors.
As we celebrate Canada turning 150 this year... it's so great to recognize some of the iconic and unique Talents that have given us all so much pleasure. What a great country we live in. Thank you Stompin' Tom.. and KD Lang. You make us proud to be Canadian. I doublt Tom is resting in peace...he likely has a board neath his feet. Stompin all the way!!!
@@hilariousname6826 not on how to live your life, duh, i don't look to anyone for that, but his pride in being Canadian sure stood out, esp when he gave back the Juno's ,,
I had one chance when I was a teenager to see Stompin' Tom in concert with my parent's and I passed it up. I can't even remember what I passed it up for and I really regret it. What a true Canadian, we should all be proud of this folk legend.
in the fall of 1988 stompin tom released his first solo album in twelve years, ending a self imposed exile from the music industry which was sparked by what he percieved to be a lack of promotion & recognition on belhalf of canadain performers by the industry.this program appeared to air on CBC TV special in fall of 1988.found this info on 'a proud canadian' cd insert.
He came to play in Chilliwack, BC in 2012, a short time before his death. This was a big deal too, because he rarely came to the west coast. My dad was the biggest fan while we were kids, but I wasn't the biggest fan at the time. My dad and I both passed up the chance to see him. Will always regret that.
Mr. STOMPIN TOM CONNORS, LOVE ALL YOUR MUSIC AND YOU ARE A TRUE PATRIOTIC PROFESSIONAL MUSICAL PERFORMER , OF WHICH I WILL NOT EVER SEE AGAIN. REST IN PEACE MR. CONNORS .
this is great! what a great song to k.d. he seems like a gentleman and a great singer... never heard him before, need to have a listen. I used to drink a drink called clearly Canadian. loved that stuff but they stopped makin it here in new jersey.
Walked right thru the lounge where we...'ADAM & EVE" show were playing in Tillsonburg, Ontario...Also seen him live in PETAWAWA ONT... Guess he wouldn't have much of a chance in this stupid, so-called music of today...made a name for himself, in his time anyway....R.I.P. TOM........ADAM SMITH BRADFORD ONTARIO,.CANADA.....
i remember the reversing falls in St |John New Brunswick and magnetic hill where cars go up the hill with no engine power also in New Brunswick. sadly i have never been to western Canada.
Stompin Tom Connor's R.I.P. you earned it now you are with your Mom in Heaven. But just remember that you are still and always will be a CANADIAN ICON in the truest word, you never forgot where you came from or who you were so REST IN PEACE STOMPIN TOM CONNOR'S . Signed:T. Brennan
@StompinAllan Hi I knew that he was banned for awhile in Canada because he thought Canadian singers should not have to go "over the border" to be heard...and I completely agree with him! I didn't know he was still banned. I just assumed that they didn't play him on the radio anymore because of what "country" music has become and the ageism that exists in radio today! I heard him on a station out of Petersborough in the late 80's that had the Eric McEwen maritime show! Loved that show!
great talent,a fan since70ties80ties=still.hope you keep on keeping on.LEANONJESUS AMEN. DAN ANTIGONISH.NS.i seen your skinners pound mucem+your old truck.
Looks like at 42 seconds in...I can recognize, just behind Stompin Tom, this guitar player from Whiskey Jack. It appears he has been along with Stompin Tom right along ever since "The Return". Now that I think of it seriously, I wonder if he wasn't there the whole time EXCEPT for the era with Mark LaForme and the Formulas. Good question. Tom has had so many good people touring with him over the years. Two honorable mentions here, among countless others, were Graham Townsend, and J.P. Cormier.
Such a shame that great Canadian singers like Stompin' Tom was never heard on American Radio! I love this man! And I always wondered how K.D. Lang took this song but from this it looks like she really enjoyed it and took it as a compliment!
@@davidhynes: Except that Johnny Cash didn’t write several of his biggest hits and Tom wrote pretty much all of his. Johnny of course had a much larger audience and a more continuous career.
thanks so much. i've her this kd lang song before but have never heard them together or seen this clip. thanks so much for sharing this gem. pairie eh water lol
bravo à ce chanteur canadien, qu'elle simplicité, et beaucoup de gentillesse, tout cela dans son regard!!!!! un admirateur de la bourgogne ( FRANCE) DIJON
