After three consecutive days and 1am nights, its finally complete ! When i saw this happen, I audibly gasped and watching the rest of the cast gasp as well - this whole episode was a rollercoaster and I wish I could've animated more parts but school is a thing (explains my 3 month absence)
also wtf is an art style, it changes 6437827348 times in here
fun fact: I had originally planned to add a scene with the rangers + dagen fighting lucien and co, then decided not to because 1) how the fuck to do animate a bow 2) its a mystery woooooo (on brand)

This is such a good character moment for Fjord. Making big decisions for the sake of his group, even knowing the cost.

Well He did immediately regret it, I don't know he knew the actual cost But thats open to interpretation.

It doesn't matter if it was the right call or not. He was faced with a decision that required an immediate response and he grew the balls to make the call.

I really like this scene despite Travis regretting it after and it not giving them the extra hour or two they needed for a long rest. Ford turning and looking at everyone sleeping and us seeing Calob as he waited, is meaningful. Even if it was a mistake in and out of character, Fjord chose a few more moments of peace for the others despite the price. The fact Jester/Laura was so insistent on the rangers not engaging before too is just: she and the others are allowed to be good, they get to have peace from not knowing, and the right to be angry at Fjord when they do. It's kinda better that Essek is the only other person to know, because he's understands it, it isn't just a heartless move, it's one done for the rest of the party's sake. The decision may not have been wise, but I think is significant in showing what Fjord is willing to do for the others' sakes, Jester especially, even if ultimately it was for only a few more moments of sleep before the danger forced them to face it.

Realizing that it didn't help makes every one complain that it was a dumb move, but as a leader role in the moment if you take into consideration the stakes and that for these characters this is very real. Not the time of battle DnD takes, but how long he possibly COULD have gotten if it was a real time battle. It was a smart move, just game logic didn't let it work out. But I see where Travis's/Fjords thought process was here.

Thank you for alluding to what must have happened up above them. The rangers were probably dead before Essek and Fjord finished their conversation.

I am digging this sort of darker turn on Fjord. It's not evil or anything, but still interesting.

Travis always has been, even in campaign 1. When Grog spoke, and made a decision, despite how 'stupid' he was, the rest of the party would follow along with little argument. This dynamic became more apparent with Fjord.

It was 100% the correct choice as a general and leader. The stakes were too high to do prioritize personal relationships or the lives of the few. Every advantage was required, and it took a tough call to sacrifice the pawns in play. I applaud the decision personally.
@leokohns4455
@leokohns4455 3 года назад
No, it wasn't. Travis said it himself. It was stupid and brought nothing. He made a uninformed decision,because he though his decision had to be quick. To send people into ther death based of speculation and a Lack of information on his side isn't Leadership. It is stupid.

D&D combat rarely lasts for a few minutes. Sometimes, like the combat with the frost giants, it's over in LESS THAN a minute. So while, in theory, it could have bought them more time, it would not have bought them the additional hours they needed to complete their rest. So it was a mistake, both in and out of character. But it was a powerful character MOMENT, and that's what can be appreciated about it. I _really_ hope Matt doesn't retcon Fjord's decision, though. There should be consequences for playing with the lives of others, even if it's in the service of a greater good. Dagan in particular, surviving, for example, would be a mistake. Because the party cares for him. And what better tension would be generated than by knowing that Fjord's decision lead to that happening?
@artie9940

@@Nyanx4 Right?? It is a mix of relief and disapointment for me when Matt reveals Dagan survived in the following episode
@Nyanx4
@Nyanx4 3 года назад
@@artie9940 Well, consider the possibility that Essek was lying about the second message to try and keep Fjord focused. It doesn't make sense that Dagan would warn the party twice. They told the M9 that the party was approaching, and got a response. Why would they have sent another message to Essek at this point. It's possible Matt retconned it, but Essek repeatedly tried to keep the others on track while traveling Aeor. This feels like one of those times it was directed at Fjord to me. I like Dagan as an NPC, and would like him to live... But it feels a bit strange to acknowledge that horrific sacrifice, and then immediately go _"no really, it's fine don't worry."_ This is just my thoughts on it though.

@@leokohns4455 to call it stupid is way to far. You can't make sweeping statements like that when your using hindsight. He had no clue what was going to happen and if you were in his position you would have no clue either. His idea of engage might of been very different to what you think or matt thinks, hit run stay out of reach and skirmish. He also did not know the distance of the party nor did anyone, such is the nature of D&D you will never know every variable that your character knows as that would take hours on every scene making for a very boring game. No one knew how fast strong willing and able the scouting party were ( we knew they were weaker then the Tomb takers obviously). With so many unknown variables you cannot call it stupid, because using hindsight in that way is in fact pretty "stupid". Put yourself in his shoes and think what you would be saying if it did workout and then you will see the affect of hindsight.

Loved this moment, I remember being confused for a second wondering if this meant something deeper like Fjord was really from xhorhas or something 😅 but after watching the talks machina where Travis was like “I should’ve asked how far away they were bc if I knew that they were a half hour away I wouldn’t have told them to engage.” Maybe it was one of those dnd miscommunications where the DM thinks something is obvious but it’s actually not clear to the player?

Travis/Fjord made the right move. The length if the fight doesn't matter. They wanted every advantage they could get, sacrificing these pons for a Extremely Minor percentile boost in their favor was still worth it. If not, those Bombs might not have destroyed Lucien's crew like it did... It was cold hearted but fit Fjord perfectly!
@neronthetyrant
@neronthetyrant Год назад
Well, no. It didn't end up giving the party any sort of boost, nor did it allow the Charges to go off. Another comment explains how it's an interesting character moment despite being an in character and out of character mistake, and I agree with that.

Naw but I don't want to hear anybody framing Fjord sending a group of rangers who were on their side to die for the sake of a 24 extra seconds as heroic. It was stupid, he didn't think it through. Essek/Matt even warned him that they would hardly scratch the tomb takers but he was so desperate for the long rest he did it anyway. I know a lot of ppl were put off by Caleb's darth vader hallway moment, but at least those soldiers were stationed in a torture hospital and not rangers willing to die for you I'm not defending Beau's absolute shit show of a poisoning, that was graphic and unnecessary
@merlinrecon7528
@merlinrecon7528 3 года назад
That’s the problem with you, you know how it ended that’s why you can say those thing because hindsight is 20/20, what if the plan worked? What if because they were attacked, the tombtaker become more careful and the rest of the mighty nein can rest? What if the reason why the three of the tombtaker died was because they were hurrying after they got attacked and they weren’t careful enough? There are a lot of what if’s in situations like this and fjord made the best one he could think at that time
@tatersalad76

If they stayed hidden and the Nein fail, they're dead anyway. Matt also said "how many times has it come down to just one or two hit points?" Which can easily apply to damage sustained from the rangers, especially against the barbarian. Also if was neither brave nor heroic it was the best of a bad situation.
