SPOILERS! (And sorry that the audio sucks. If anyone has the ability to obtain a better quality, I would be forever grateful).
After the Mighty Nein laid the ambush to stop the Tomb takers, they take a long rest inside Caleb's Tower. However, Essek doesn't need the full 8 hours of sleep and wonders the tower a bit before he receives the dreaded message.
Critical Role has been a roller coaster the last few episodes. But this was one of those 'Oh damn' moments I just had to capture. Also I really love Essek. He's a interesting character which has been portrayed so brilliantly by Matthew Mercer. So hearing Essek had an hour to himself in the Tower, brought this scene to life. Hope you all like it.

Somehow you added to this scene. The party members sleeping, the loneliness of Caleb's Tower - and the lonely camaraderie between Essik and Fjord, both because they are physically separate from the others AND because they are capable of making such hard and devastating decisions. Your portrayal of this is spot-on. One of my favorite scenes ever and you made it even better. Bravo.

Amazing. I am blown away. I felt a lot like the CR community sort of glossed over the bloodbath that was taking place above the party. Barely even a few more minutes of rest were gleaned from their sacrifice... And this animatic captured it perfectly. From the music to the art-style, I was reminded of the sort of hopeless, dark atmosphere of Remigiusz Michalski's "The Cat Lady". Perfect for a situation of anticipation of an incoming tragedy and on-going tragedies that can't be stopped. Easiest click of the subscription button I've ever done.

According to Matt, at least Dagen got out, making me think that, since he's a smart man and knew what was coming, he would have either fled or not let the rangers engage. Somehow, that man lived but we'll never know how.

@@TransIsBest I mean... Maybe I'm weird, but just because a character doesn't have a name doesn't mean their death is somehow... okay? Got that unfortunate lawful good tendency- I don't like it when poor NPCs are fed into the woodchipper, y'know? I'm one of those annoying people who's concerned about the villagers the DM hasn't thought for names of yet, which is deeply annoying to both myself and others. As far as this scene goes? Personally, I think you kind of can't have it both ways- either Dagan helped them flee and they disobeyed the Shadowhand's orders to attack, or many died for only a few minutes of additional rest... away from a viable beacon they might have been reborn with. Although it made me sad, the latter tragedy feels far more like an interesting narrative.

Oh man, having the inevitable massacre play out at the end like that was inspired, and really hits home just how much of a brave decision that was for Fjord, especially as he's always been the one to try to save everyone when he can. I loved Essek reaching for the beacon only to recoil back too, there's so much guilt associated with that for him now I think.

The emotions you were able to convey with Essek’s body language and expressions... holy cow, it was absolutely amazing. I really loved the scene of him staring up at the stained glass dedicated to dunamancy, before promptly stepping away into the darkness. Everything about this animatic was stunning, each frame is a masterpiece by itself. Keep up the great work!

If you want better audio, I'm happy to record the audio from my desktop and provide it. But I sort of like the scratchy/echoy voices. Makes it sound like they're trying to be quiet to avoid waking the sleeping M9.

Thank you for the lovely compliments :D Yeah, I thought the severity of Fjords choice was gleaned over too. But I think when they go back up and see Dagan again, Fjord is going to have a very bad time. I've also been debating on the audio a little. I did alter the audio a little to get a more hollow sound as the Tower is so big. But I'll think about if I will replace the audio later... Thanks

There is literally nothing about this that I do not adore. The entire beginning sequence where Essek finishes his trance and smiles at the Nein only to pass back into shadow has my entire heart, especially. Not to be dramatic, but I'm going to rewatch this for the rest of my life. Well done well DONE

I am at a loss for words. This... this has got to be one of the best animations of this series ive ever seen. The way you have portrayed the caracters, the subtle movements and mannerisms, the intense emotion going through essek's and fjord's faces... simply breathtaking. Yeah I can only agree with the many glowing comments. Just a brilliant little bit of storytelling. The cinematography is excellent, those great details like the close ups of Fjord and Essik's lips as they make the decision, the general darkness and mood of the whole thing. Really love the art style as well - everyone always has their own take on the M9 and your renditions are fantastic. Its cool, like you used your medium perfectly. It's not fully animated but it so does not matter, and the emotional impact is just huge. Which again - just great storytelling. Well done!! Encore? Lol

I stumbled across this over a month ago, and have thought about it at least once a week since then. So glad I finally found it again! I like the music, but I *LOVE* the art and the direction: the lighting, the angles, the slow pace. You really captured the initial quiet atmosphere, and then the gravity of the moment. I've seen many animatics, but to my mind none have come close to this one. Bravo.

This is absolutely gorgeous!! The sound quality works for the scene. How I record sound for animatics: Screen-record the moment on my phone. Use a video to mp3 converter (plenty of free apps) and then if I need to edit the sound together I use Audacity sound editor on my laptop! Also a free software :)

Thank you. Are you watching the second CR campaign? Most of this scène was my imagining of the moments in between Fjords and Esseks conversation. It was glazed over so fast, but the impact really got me when I sat and really thought about it.

If you have the ability to make a correction and then upload again, I suggest the following… At 1:25 and 1:48, you have "trope" in the subtitles. When referring to a military unit (as in this case), it should be "troop". And when referring to a performing group, it should be "troupe". A "trope" is something else entirely.

Thanks for catching that. English isn't my native language. hahah Also, unfortunately RU-vid does not let you edit existing videos without deleting and then replacing the entire video. Only edit audio or delete shots. Not replace shots. Bit of a bummer.
